Envirobabble: Efficient, Clean and Sustainable Chat

For anyone new to this debate, I should quickly explain what we mean when we say 'Demand Reduction' or 'Renewable Generation':

Demand Reduction

Basically involves the idea of becoming more efficient with the energy we use. This could be by wasting less of it or buying more efficient products to replace existing ones within our homes and businesses. A classic example of this is the energy efficient light bulb, which uses approximately 20% of the power of an old fashioned incandecent bulb.

Renewable Generation

This one's a bit more obvious - it essentially means we construct more electricity generating plants that have an inexhaustable supply of fuel. This includes wind, wave, tidal and solar power, but not nuclear because uranium is a limited natural resource just like oil and coal.

What's Best?

Sometimes, demand reduction can take a back seat to the more glamourous climate change solution of renewables. However, in my opinion both are required in order to truely move towards a sustainable future.
