Middle Class Homeless Sometimes Hard to Spot

Ranked #21,591 in Culture & Society, #445,006 overall

Do I look Homeless to you?

I am writing this lens on behalf of all the emerging Middle Class Homeless people. Many of us are kids. I happen to have a lot of hobbies that made me look like I was someone other then a homeless person. My journey being homeless was about six months long. There were many things that made me sad about our country and then a few people who gave me hope. I hope that after you get to know me you understand that being homeless is often not because people made stupid decisions, but more that a series of unfortunate events may occur and the next thing you know you are one of the homeless people.

Homeless and Clueless about getting help

Learning to accept kindness when first homeless

Blending in, when we were homeless, we wanted to look like everyone else. Many of the recently homeless middle class people have no idea how to get the resources they need when things go wrong. We were one of those family's. What do you do? Where do we go? What about school. All these frightening things become huge issues on a day to day basis. While we were homeless we did not tell people. We did not want to ask for help. Pride was a huge factor in preventing us from seeking help. We had always been the people to go gather food for food drive and to donate to causes. Visiting a shelter was a shock to my family.

Sad to think about when you look at the statistics for San Jose CA listed below.
