Just prior to the start of the new season Luke Young was sold to Aston Villa prompting the Middlesbrough manager to sign young Arsenal full back Justin Hoyte.
In midfield out went George Boateng, Fabio Rochemback and Lee Cattermole with Didier Digard being the only arrival. Gary O'Neil has switched into a more central role, Mohamed Shawky has moved into the first team squad alongside Julio Arca and young Josh Walker will provide cover.
In the striker positions Middlesbrough are pretty much the same as they were at the end of last season with the exception of the addition of Marvin Emnes from Sparta Rotterdam. Afonso Alves, Mido and Tuncay are the other available strikers, with Jeremie Aliadiere used more as a right sided midfielder this season.

Top Ten Worst Boro Signings
The worst Players Middlesbrough have bought in recent years
Boro Mania recently ran article suggesting the ten worst Boro players of recent times. This list included :Jaime Moreno - The Bolivian international who arrived but could not cut it in the physical English game. Made a very good career for himself in MLS.
Mark Wilson - A former Manchester United trainee who was simply a waste of time in a Boro shirt.
Fabio - Remember him? No? You know, Emerson's cousin Fabio? :) The Brazilian defender was signed by Boro on the basis that he was Emerson's cousin. He managed one appearance in 14 months at the club.
Branco - The World Cup winner was a shadow of his former self (a rather large and overweight shadow) at Boro.
