The Most Extensive Range of Manual Stacker Trucks From Midland

With
the most extensive range in the UK, Midland Pallet Trucks are one of the
country's most trusted and respected suppliers of pallet trucks and pump trucks.
Their experience, which exceeds 20 years in the industry, has seen them supply
such manual lifting aids to businesses large and small, helping them to take
the next step on the ladder to profit and success. One of their most popular
products is the manual stacker truck, which can help to improve working
processes significantly by helping the workforce to carry out more difficult tasks
in a shorter period of time. This means that productivity and, in turn, profits
are boosted without having to spend a budget-breaking amount.

Designed
as an economical solution to lifting open bottom pallets, the 500kg
1.6m Manual Stacker Truck
is one of the best value stackers available from
Midland Pallet Trucks. For use in environments where space is at a premium,
this compact and versatile lifting aid can hold up to 500kg, and lift them to a
maximum height of 1.6m. The truck, which comes complete with chip and
corrosion-resistant paint finish, drop-forged forks and a heavy-duty steel
construction, is durable enough to serve a company for many years and is
available priced at just £708.75.

The
next step up the height scale for Midland Pallet Trucks' manual stackers is the
1000kg
2.5m Manual Stacker Truck
, which is built with largely the same
specifications as its smaller sister product, but with a much greater lifting
capacity - twice the weight and just under 1m of extra height. Precision
engineered for the smoothest performance possible, this robust truck benefits
from light and easy steering, with its built-in foot brake, and adjustable
forks to accommodate pallets of various sizes (although all pallets must be
open-bottom for use with this truck).
This essential manual lifting aid is available from Midland Pallet
Trucks for only £1,290.45.

At
the very top end of the scale, hitting heights of 3.0m with ease, is Midland
Pallet Trucks' largest manual stacker truck. The C-shaped steel construction of
the 1000kg
3.0m Manual Straddle Stacker Truck
is sure to improve productivity for many
years, with its heavy-duty forks and pump unit.
This unit can lift both open and closed-bottom pallets, and its integral
lifting function can be operated by both hand and foot, for optimum control.
Its size - just 1360mm wide - makes it perfect for use within narrow aisles and
areas where a larger truck would be difficult to manoeuvre properly. An
indispensable addition to any fleet of pallet trucks, this unit is available
for £1,417.50.

Galvanized Pallet Trucks For Use Within Aggressive Conditions

Toyota
have announced this week that three new models of their AC electric pallet
trucks will be added to the range with a specific focus on a new galvanized chassis.
This enhancement is suitable for operators who will be using trucks in wet
conditions and who seek a higher level of corrosion resistance than regular
pallet trucks. The update aims to prolong the lifespan of their trucks,
maintaining a high level of durability and saving money for customers. However,
Midland Pallet Trucks have been experts in the field of pallet trucks for many years and
have long since understood the importance of a sturdy and long-lasting pallet
truck, or pump truck as they are sometimes known. Their excellent range is
perfect for use in areas which carry strong risks of corrosion or contact with
chemicals, and the entire collection is available at an affordable and
budget-friendly price.

The
most basic and cost-effective of Midland Pallet Truck's range is the ACZ25
Galvanized Pallet Truck
, which has a loading capacity of up to 2500kg and
forks specially designed to fit many of the most popular pallets in use. The
nickel-coated pump unit is low-maintenance and perfect for use in carrying
meat, sea products, beverages and chemicals which might require the entire
chassis to be disinfected or washed on a more regular basis on a normal pallet
truck. The mainframe, including the brackets, forks, push rods and handle, is
fully galvanized and is available for just £419.95.

The
resistant properties of stainless steel are renowned in many industries, making
it a perfect construction material for a pallet truck which needs to withstand
aggressive environments. The DBCS20-540x1150
Stainless Steel Hand Pallet Truck
features twin front and rear nylon
rollers for easy loading, and boasts an impressive carrying capacity of up to
2000kg. This truck is ideal for use in pharmaceutical or medical industries as
it can be sanitised as often as necessary, and the unit is made entirely from
stainless steel, except the nylon rollers and rubber accessories for grip
reasons. The forks are suitable for use with euro pallets and the hardwearing
and durable nature of the pallet truck makes it a great investment at just
£1,049.00.

Wide
forks are sometimes a necessity in areas where large quantities of goods will
be delivered and transported, and the ACS20B
Wide Stainless Steel Hand Pallet Truck
fulfils the brief for a galvanized
pallet truck perfectly. It can work in very low temperatures such as freezers
and coolers, and can withstand a huge amount of hygienic wash-downs without any
sign of corrosion. This truck was specifically designed for use within the food
industry, but its advantages could still benefit a huge number of other
purposes. With 2000kg loading capacity and wider forks which still fit many
pallet sizes, this truck is available from Midland Pallet Trucks for just
£1,195.00.

Back To Basics With Hand Pallet Trucks

Technology is advancing at the
speed of light in this day and age, and with new, more advanced products
hitting the shelves all the time, purchasing new equipment can be confusing to
say the least. For managers or owners, with decisions about budgets and
benefits hanging over them, it can be hard to justify splashing out on the
newest apparatus whenever there is a new release, especially as a newer model
will be along six months down the line. Sometimes the best solutions are the
simplest; Midland Pallet Trucks have been a provider of pump
trucks
and pallet trucks for over twenty years, assisting many companies to
make the most of their workforce by utilising the most simple and versatile
trucks. Their selection of basic hand pallet trucks provides high-quality
whilst attempting to adhere to the tough budgeting demands of many businesses,
and Midland Pallet Trucks are confident that they have a truck to fulfil every
brief.

There is no point in investing in
the newest gadgets for the workplace if the equipment which carries out the
everyday tasks is substandard. The humble hand pallet truck can carry out
more briefs than the vast majority of typical workplace equipment, and does so
at a fraction of the price. The 2500kg
(2.5T) Capacity Hand Pallet Truck
available from Midland is a best-seller,
with its simple but incredibly versatile construction and its hardwearing exterior.
The dual controls (hand lever and foot pedal) offer maximum control for
operators, and the grease fittings at all of the pivotal points ensure long
life and low maintenance levels; surely the top of the briefing list for any
pallet truck.  Available for just
£229.95, this simple pallet truck is adaptable and strong, offering great value
for money and the practicality that some specialist trucks cannot supply.

A traverse pallet truck can carry
out the functions of an ordinary pallet truck, with the extra capability of
being able to navigate long loads down narrow aisles. The ACTWO
Traverse Pallet Truck
provides more convenience and flexibility in its
range of movement, and can carry out more varied tasks. The forks measure in at
540mm x 1150mm, compatible with popular euro pallets, and the truck can carry
up to 2500kg (two tonnes) when moving forwards and 1500kg when traversing
sideways down aisles or through awkward spaces. These trucks are the bread and
butter of any workplace, with their extensive capabilities and low prices,
combined with high-quality and long lifespan.

Maintain Pallet Trucks With Midlands Annual Inspection Programme

The
regulations that make up the Health and Safety laws in the UK are a vital part
of working life for many industries. Jobs that require manual labour carry much
legislation to ensure the safety of employees at all times, and those who work
in warehouses, factories, distribution centres and construction sites should
all be well aware of these issues. One of the largest issues regarding keeping
safe in the workplace is the maintenance of tools, appliances and other
equipment that is used on a daily basis. Midland Pallet Trucks are a premier
pallet truck supplier for many companies in the UK, and maintenance of their
fleet is advised to keep them in top condition and to ensure employee safety.
Their Annual
Inspection Programme guidelines
advise the user on a series of checks
designed to keep equipment operating smoothly and adhere to the Health and
Safety laws laid down.

One of
the first tips offered by Midland Pallet Trucks is to inspect each frame and
component thoroughly for any signs of wear and tear. In such industrial
environments as these pallet
trucks
are usually used, fracture and stress is likely, and should be
reported, noted or repaired immediately. The check should include the wheels,
bearings, pins, circlips and the main frame of the pallet truck itself. Wheels
should be checked for dents or cracks, and never ignored if found. It may also
be useful for yearly inspection reports if a record is kept of any components
which are replaced.

Pallet trucks and pump
trucks
should be well lubricated at all times (though never the hydraulic
section of a truck). Lifting chains should be cleaned regularly with thick oil,
which helps to reduce clogging of parts when in use. One of the areas which
should require the most attention is the bearings; they should never be left to
rust or corrode. Adding a layer of grease when cleaning can help them to
operate smoothly and efficiently.

For battery-operated machines such as high-lift
pallet trucks
, recharging the battery is a seemingly simple but vital
aspect of keeping it in good condition. Water levels should never dip below around
half an inch above the plate, and if the water is stale it should be replaced
immediately. Letting the battery run low is detrimental to the condition of the
truck, but not so much as overcharging the battery, which can damage the truck
beyond repair.

Figures Show Increase In Pallet Truck Orders

Figures
from the British Industrial Truck Association have recently shown a 20%
year-on-year increase on sales orders for trucks; orders rose by 4,300 units
taking the total to 26,100. Powered pallet trucks also came out of the figures
very strongly, with sales up 50% in 2011. Investing in a pallet truck can seem
like a big decision for a smaller company, but the benefits of owning one pay
dividends; this is proven with the amount of businesses now choosing to
purchase the versatile and multipurpose trucks. From distribution companies to
garden centres, building sites to warehouses, a pallet truck can come in handy
at a whole range of different workplaces. Midland Pallet Trucks are a
Midlands-based supplier of high-quality pallet trucks, with a selection that
will have any manager wishing to add to a fleet.

For a small business looking for
their first pallet truck, there are none more adaptable and useful than the 1680kg
(1.68T) Capacity 520 x 1150 mm hand pallet truck
. Low-maintenance,
high-quality, impressive capacity and ease of use all combine to create a unit
which fulfils anything from the simplest to the more challenging tasks with
ease. The hand operation requires no separate qualifications or training, and
can be utilised by anyone on the workforce, making their job easier, more
productive and therefore more profitable. Priced at just £136.45, it is a
worthwhile investment for a company looking for a new way to boost their
efficiency.

For a truck with a little more
control, which may be used on ramps or uneven surfaces, the AC25HB
Hand Pallet Truck with Brake
is a great solution. It can carry up to 2.5
tonnes and is durable, hardwearing and tough. The steel and epoxy powder
coating combine to give great resistance against corrosion and guarantee that
the truck will serve a company for many years. The forks, measuring 1150mm x
540mm, are designed to fit the majority of pallets currently in use, including
popular euro pallets, and the brake is operated simply by hand. The truck is
available from Midland Pallet Trucks at just £204.75, and would be a worthy
addition to any fleet.

For something a little more
specialised, a high-lift pallet truck might just fit the bill. This sort of
pallet truck has seen the highest rise in figures, perhaps signifying that
these are the trucks which many businesses find to be the most useful. The HLTN10-540x1170
High Lift Pallet Truck
has a capacity of up to 1000kg and the maximum
height of 800mm allows for easy unloading. The units are only for use with an
open bottom pallet, as the scissors restrict the safe lifting of closed bottom
pallets, but the 3-position control lever and robust construction make it a
valuable and flexible investment for the future at just £386.85.

The Versatility Of Pallet Trucks

br />

Taking the time to invest in new
equipment can be a tough process for any manager or owner, with plenty of
decisions to be made about budgets, benefits and other potential advantages and
disadvantages. For those working in warehouses, factories, on construction
sites or at distribution centres, pallet trucks are a part of everyday life,
and it's only natural that managers will look to get the very best from their
fleet. This is most easily accomplished by ensuring that there is a truck to
cover every task.  Midland Pallet Trucks
is a UK-based supplier of a whole range of pallet trucks, from specialist
trucks with weighing scales and high-lift capabilities, to standard
hand pallet trucks
which are as versatile as they are hardwearing. Their
selection of trucks has something to fulfil every brief, and at prices that will
meet budgeting demands without ever compromising on quality.

Versatility is important in a
pallet truck, and there are none more practical and adaptable than the standard
hard pallet truck. The 1680kg
(1.68T) Capacity 520 x 1150 mm hand pallet truck
is ideal for smaller loads and can be
operated by hand with no need for any separate qualifications or training. The
truck itself weighs just 50kg, ensuring that the operator can get the most out
of the impressive 1680kg capacity. Maintenance is easy thanks to grease
fittings at pivotal points, and the 3-position control lever offers fingertip
control. The size of this truck makes it perfect for manoeuvring in small
spaces such as the back of lorries or down narrow aisles within a warehouse.
For a standard, simple and basic pallet truck with no frills, this is the
perfect solution, and priced at just £136.45, it is impossible to go wrong.

After standard hand pallet trucks
comes the more specialist high-lift pallet trucks. The HLTN10-540x1170
High Lift Pallet Truck
can carry and lift up to 1000kg, whilst hitting
heights of up to 800mm, allowing easy loading and unloading. As with all of
Midland's trucks, the powder-coated paint which covers the exterior protects
from corrosion and other damage, guaranteeing that this truck will be in the
fleet for many years with minimal maintenance. Available for just £386.85, this
truck is a valuable and flexible addition to any fleet.

For unsteady or uneven
environments, there is no more versatile truck than the RTT12
Rough Terrain Pump Truck
. Undulating surfaces such as building sites or
farms can be navigated easily with pneumatic tyres, whilst the 210 degree
turning radius that is standard with many Midland trucks offers effortless
movement and control. The truck has up to 1200kg capacity and the multitude of
environments it can be used in makes it a steal at just £708.75.

Adhere to LOLER whilst adding to the fleet

Health and Safety regulations play a huge part in everyday life for those working in many industries nowadays. Warehouses, factories, distribution centres, agricultural operations and construction sites are all places of work which focus heavily on manual labour and rely on the assistance of aerial work platforms and other lifting equipment in order to get their jobs done properly. It is vital that employees who handle such equipment understand the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), a crucial piece of legislation which ensures that lifting operations are properly planned and that the lifting of goods is executed in a safe and secure manner.

Midland Pallet Trucks is a UK-based company who pride themselves not only on their high quality products, but also on the fact that their aerial work platforms adhere fully to all Health and Safety regulations and come with a 12-month LOLER certificate. They also stock a fantastic range of lifting products and accessories such as lift tables, manual stacker trucks and high lift pallet trucks.

The MJCPT 1.7 Mobile Aerial Work Platform is an electric lift which offers an economical, safe and secure solution for one person when working at height. Often used for construction and maintenance, the lift can pass through any standard door frame and can hit heights of up to 1.7metres. The height can be controlled at the touch of a button, making it much more versatile than a standard tower. Emergency down and stop buttons give an extra air of safety and security for the operator and the charger and the battery are also supplied. As guaranteed with all products in stock at Midland, the hardwearing frame and anti-corrosion coating ensure this lift will serve the workforce for many years. The brand new scissor lift is available priced at only £2,750.00.

The HST0809 High Lift Pallet Truck with Tilt is a relatively new addition to Midland's range of lifting equipment. With its tilting facility, operators can tip their cargo into a cage or bin with minimum effort, and with the truck's 800kg capacity and 900mm lift height, it is a versatile and functional addition to any fleet of trucks. Stability when tilting is provided by fixed fork stabilisers, and the 210 degree turning radius, which is standard for many of Midland's trucks, ensure that this practical unit will be at the centre of the workforce for many years. It is available right now from Midland priced at only £629.48

Making the best of lifting and handling aids

Many businesses across a variety of industries are required to carry out frequent heavy lifting, which can cause back injuries across the workforce when carried out over a prolonged period of time. For owners and managers, an injury among their team can incur great costs including retraining, loss of reputation, civil liability and even the costs associated with prosecution. If employees are not using the correct lifting and handling aids the consequences can have an adverse effect on their lifestyle and leisure activities, plus their future job prospects. It is important to realise that these injuries can be avoided, and the preventative measures that should be in place are very cost-effective. Pallet trucks are a simple and easy way to lift and handle heavy or cumbersome goods whilst keeping employees safe.

Midland Pallet Trucks are one of the UK's foremost suppliers of pallet trucks and lifting solutions which can help to prevent injury in the workplace when used properly. Their high quality products, excellent customer service and low prices combine to ensure that a business' lifting and handling needs will be catered for.

The most basic lifting and handling aid available is a simple hand pallet truck such as the AC25A Hand Pallet Truck. This best-selling product has a huge 2500kg capacity and has a multitude of features at a very reasonable price. The 540mm x 1150mm forks are the ideal size for the conventional euro pallets which are popular in many industries, whilst the hand lever gives the operator great control over the truck. The truck is easy to manoeuvre, with an excellent 210 degree turning radius, and there are grease fittings at all of the pivotal points on the truck to ensure that the unit will have a long life and need little to no maintenance. For a company which regularly has to lift and transport sheet materials, a rudimentary hand pallet truck such as this can prevent back strain injuries and keep the workforce safe and healthy.

If the focus of the workforce is primarily on lifting goods, a high lift pallet truck such as the HST0809 High Lift Pallet Truck with Tilt would be ideal. The truck is suitable as an ordinary pallet truck or scissor lift unit, but can lift goods up to 900mm into the air, and has an in-built tilt option perfect for tipping loads into cages or fence pallets.  The reduced effort and improved ergonomic conditions this allows for employees can not only aid their health and safety, but also improve the productivity of the workforce, resulting in higher profit margins and a greater reputation.

Midland Pallet Trucks Add New High-Lift Trucks To The Line

div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 10.0pt; mso-hyphenate: auto;">
Midland Pallet Trucks, one of the UK's foremost suppliers of pallet trucks and lift tables have recently added three brand new high-lift pallet truck models to their already extensive range. Sometimes nicknamed scissor-lift pallet trucks, these units are specially designed to lift pallets to a height which makes them easier for the operator to work with. They also bring potentially heavy pallets down to a more practical height so that the employees who are regularly operating this sort of machinery don't need to constantly bend down to load or unload pallets.

The SLTN10 High Lift Hand Pallet Truck is the first of the new products, with a single cylinder lifting system and a lifting capacity of up to 1000kg. These trucks are designed specifically for open bottom pallets and can help to reduce the risk of painful and unnecessary back injuries which can occur when bending down and unloading pallets. The 210 degree turning radius makes this hand pallet truck manoeuvrable and versatile, while a valve control the speed at which the truck can lower its forks when fully loaded, for ultimate security and control over the heavy cargo. This brand new product is available from Midland Pallet Trucks for just £385.25.

Also featuring a single cylinder lifting system is the HLTN10-540x1170 High Lift Pallet Truck, which can also carry and lift up to 1000kg. The fork sizes of this truck are optimised for euro pallets (open only) and the robust and strong steel construction ensure a hardwearing and durable unit. The powder-coated paint which covers the exterior helps to protect from corrosion and other damage which may occur, and as with all of the trucks available from Midland, safety valves and security fittings come as standard. This pallet truck can lift pallets up to 800mm for easy loading and unloading, and is available priced at just £386.85.

The HLT10-520x1170 High Lift Pallet Truck is the only new product to benefit from a dual cylinder lifting system, for more focused force and power. The 1000kg lifting capacity means that vast quantities of goods can be moved and lifting with speed and efficiency, without causing undue harm or strain to the workforce. Fork rollers aid easy loading of open bottom pallets onto the forks, while a 3-position lever ensures that those operating this type of truck are in total control. This long-lasting and hardwearing truck is an investment without being too pricey; it is available from Midland for only £379.00.

Workplace Essentials From Midland Pallet Trucks

For over 25 years, Midland Pallet Trucks have been supplying high quality pallet trucks at competitive prices, with an emphasis on value for money and convenience. As the company grew and expanded to meet the high demand for their products, they branched out into other areas of the industry, supplying accessories often used in conjunction with their pallet truck range. As a result, their selection of drum loaders, skates, lift tables and sack trolleys is now second to none, and businesses all over the country have come to rely on Midland Pallet Trucks for their hardwearing products and great customer service.

Skates are often used in warehouses or factory environments to move heavy objects safely and easily. The CT-4 Moving Skates from Midland use a heavy sealed bearing to spread the weight of the load and ensure controlled, secure movement. With a capacity of 6 tonnes, the skates are durable and heavy-duty and weighing just 14kg themselves, they don't add much weight to the already substantial loads they can hold. PU wheels with steel centres contribute to the making of a resilient, long-lasting and useful tool. There are many other skates with differing specifications also in the range; the CT-4 skates are available for £48.30.

In a working environment where oil drums are used, it is important to have an efficient way to transport or lift them. Midland's DL300 Drum Loader is constructed from heavy-duty steel and can carry up to 300kg. The simple design makes it easy to lift drums without any hydraulics and the automatic release system makes for an efficient resource. These beneficial loaders are available for just £135.45.

Striving to prevent employee injuries is vital for any workplace where lifting or carrying is expected, and equipment such as the SSPN35 Sack Truck can help to prevent such injuries occurring. The design of this truck is ergonomic and means that loads of up to 350kg can be moved with minimum effort, reducing the risk of injuries such as back strain. The multi-purpose tool is functional and can transport more than just sacks; these trucks are ideal for moving a wide variety of heavy loads which may be difficult to carry by hand. The pneumatic tyres ensure sturdy balance and very easy manoeuvring, even when fully loaded with a heavy item. The 1200mm x 460mm specification means it is tall and wide enough to move even a fridge.  They are a vital part of many workplaces and are available from Midland priced at just £57.75 each.

Specialist Pallet Trucks From Midland

Pallet trucks are a stalwart of many workplaces across the country, with thousands of businesses relying on them to help carry out important tasks and cut the risks involved in manual labour. Basic pallet trucks are instrumental in transporting heavy goods and pallets from one place to another, but some workplaces may require a more specialised pallet truck to cope with the demands of their company.  Midland Pallet Trucks have an extensive selection of pallet trucks, with some designed specifically to fit the requirements of such companies.

Standard pallet trucks may become difficult to manoeuvre in areas where the ground is unsteady or uneven. Midland Pallet Trucks have the answer in the form of their RTT12 Rough Terrain Pallet Truck. The pneumatic tyres are ideal for use on undulating surfaces such as building sites, farms or garden centres, and the 210 degree turning radius makes for easy movement and control. The powder-coated heavy-duty steel frame is resistant to corrosion and the truck can be used with both open and closed pallets. The truck has a considerable 1200kg capacity and the adjustable forks and low maintenance levels of the unit make it a great lifting solution for use in many environments. The versatile truck is available from Midland priced at £708.75.

Carrying long loads down narrow aisles is a predicament faced by many companies in warehouses, factories or distribution centres. The ACTWO Traverse Pallet Truck uses sideways movement to solve this problem, providing more flexibility and convenience in the process. The truck carries many of the specifications of Midland's other pallet trucks, with its hardwearing steel frame and easy manoeuvrability, but the wide variety of tasks this truck is able to perform makes it one of the more adaptable trucks in the range. The unit can also be used as a regular pallet truck, with 2500kg capacity (reduced to 1500kg in sideways mode). This truck is available for £195.30.

Some pallet trucks require some extra reinforcement due to their use in certain environments; the ACZ25-B Galvanized Pallet Truck is specially constructed to be able to withstand extremely low temperatures with carrying goods in and out of freezers or coolers. These types of truck are widely used in transporting food products such as meat, sea products and wine, and are also a popular choice for transporting chemicals as they are a great choice for use in sterile rooms.  The unit has 2500kg capacity and entry and exit rollers on the forks for easy pallet loading. This specialist truck is available from Midland priced at only £437.95.

Aerial Work Platforms From Midland Pallet Trucks

div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 14.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 14.0pt;">
In the same way that computers have taken over from typewriters, aerial work platforms have taken over from ladders. Used mainly for temporary work jobs such as maintenance or repair, aerial work platforms are mechanical devices which are used to lift workers into the air and, when used correctly, they have a great range of benefits for the companies which use them. They can reduce labour for employees and also vastly cut the time needed to carry out certain tasks in the workplace. Midland Pallet Trucks are a UK provider of hard-wearing pallet trucks that have a great numbers of advantages for many businesses and also stock a range of aerial work platforms.

The most budget-friendly aerial work platform that Midland have in their range is the MJCPT 1.7 Mobile Aerial Work Platform; a compact scissor lift platform which allows one person to work at height (the maximum lift capacity is 240kg). The highest working height made possible from this truck is 3.73m and the slim frame can fit through a standard door frame, making it ideal for use in hospitals, schools and other public environments.  At £2,750.00, the platform is the cheapest in Midland's range, but the price certainly doesn't compromise on quality; all of the trucks and lift platforms offered by Midland are hardwearing and durable.

The next model in the range is the MJCPT 2.5 Mobile Aerial Work Platform, which has a similar specification to the previous model, except for the maximum platform lift height. This model boasts a 2.5m maximum lift height, with a maximum working height of 4.5m. These types of work platforms are much more versatile than mobile towers, as they can be adjusted at the touch of a button; this unit comes with emergency down and stop buttons for optimum control. This model is available from Midland at just £3,500.00.

Standing at 3.0m when fully extended, with a maximum working height of 5.0m, the final unit in Midland's range is a true giant of aerial work platforms. The MJCPT 3.0 Mobile Aerial Work Platform, as with the other models in the range, comes with features such as lockable wheels, a lockable entry/exit door and a 12-month LOLER certificate and CE certification. The integrated charger and battery charge indicator ensure that operators can be sure of their power usage at all times, and the levelling indicators and attached outriggers ensure safety and stability. This practical aerial work platform is available for just £3,900.00 from Midland Pallet Trucks.

A Pallet Truck Is For Life, Not Just For Christmas

Many companies consider pallet trucks to be simple tools of basic quality, which can be discarded in favour of a new one without a second thought.  However, as one pallet truck owner in Germany will testify, this is certainly not the case for all pallet trucks. Walter Overbeck's carpentry business in Bocholt, Germany, recently discovered that one of the trucks in their fleet was manufactured in 1964-65 and was still in use in March 2010, making it over 40 years old. Mr Overbeck took over the business in 1992 and found the sturdy pallet truck in the existing inventory of tools from the previous owner; the reliable truck has since found itself retired and has a place of honour at a pallet truck factory in Mjölby, Sweden.

Midland Pallet Trucks are a UK provider of pallet trucks, constantly endeavouring to craft trucks and lift tables that are as durable and hardwearing as Mr Overbeck's fantastic example. With all of the products in the extensive ranges constructed from resilient, heavy-duty steel, Midland's trucks are built to last, providing great value for money as well as high quality.

One of Midland's best sellers is the AC25A Hand Pallet Truck, which has a capacity of 2500kg and double fork PU rollers and wheels. The 540mm x 1150mm forks are the optimum size forks for companies using euro pallets, and the dual controls (hand and foot) give the operator extra control. Grease fittings at all pivotal points help to ensure long life of the unit, with the steel construction also coated in powder-coated paint to ensure greater resistance to the corrosion and rust that many pallet trucks succumb to. This truck is priced at just £157.00, with other sizes available in the range.

One of the biggest reasons pallet trucks fail is general wear and tear, however a damaging aspect which often gets overlooked is temperature. In certain working environments, pallet trucks are used to transport goods in and out of freezers or coolers; this can require a more specialised truck such as the ACZ25 Galvanized Pallet Truck. With a 2500kg capacity, the ACZ25 can withstand the elements thanks to its anti-corrosion galvanized finish. This type of pallet truck is widely used to carry meat, sea products, wines, beverages and chemicals. Thanks to the galvanization, it can work in very low temperatures, making it an ideal tool for delivering goods in to and out of freezers and coolers.

Aerial work platforms, also known as scissor lifts, are a big seller at Midland, and their brand new MJCPT 1.7 Mobile Aerial Work Platform is sure to be no exception. The electric lift offers an economical and secure solution for one person when working at height; this is very useful for temporary tasks such as construction and maintenance. The lift can hit heights of up to 1.7metres and is much more versatile than a basic mobile tower, as the height can be adjusted at the touch of a button. Emergency down and stop buttons give an extra air of safety and security for the operator, and the unit comes with a 12 month LOLER certificate, as well as CE certification. Charger and battery are also supplied and, as with all of the products in stock at Midland, the hardwearing frame and durable coating ensure this lift will last for years to come. How A Pallet Truck Can Cut Company Costs

After months of economic stress and austerity, and amid fears of a double-dip recession, many companies will surely be searching for ways in which they can cut costs without affecting productivity and profit. Pallet trucks are already familiar sights in many factories and warehouses all over the UK, but is it worth setting aside the money, undergoing the risk assessments and integrating a whole new piece of equipment into an already functioning workplace?

The answer would appear to be a resounding yes; pallet trucks have a wide range of advantages that, most importantly, include cutting costs, saving money and boosting profits. The first way in which they can assist and improve conditions is the obvious impact it will have upon staff. Pallet trucks are most useful when they are lifting and transporting heavy loads, and by cutting out the heavy lifting for employees, it vastly reduces the risk of injury. The addition of a simple pallet truck to a workplace can cut out the threat of common back problems that manifest when an employee carries out repetitive heavy lifting tasks every day.

There is also much less risk of dropping goods (potentially injuring the worker and also damaging the cargo) as long as the weight restrictions of the truck are adhered to; companies in the UK are estimated to pay around £12billion per year in sick pay, so it is worth purchasing a simple hand pallet truck to help to rein in these costs.

The next way in which a pallet truck can help to boost profits is the way in which it enhances productivity. Some trucks can carry up to 3500kg in weight; far more than a single man could carry or transport. Smaller businesses are currently under a lot of pressure to maximise the productivity of their man hours and with the addition of a pallet truck, larger volumes of goods can be moved. This leads to streamlined work flows, increase efficiency and, most importantly, higher capacity for profit.

Pallet trucks are also very low-maintenance. The robust steel construction and rust-preventing powder coating of many of these units mean they last for many years without having to be repaired or maintained in any way. They require no special operating license, or even any formal training. Pump trucks are some of the simplest trucks available and can be operated by almost anyone, saving money on potentially expensive training courses and qualifications needed for units such as forklift trucks.

The Sky Is The Limit With Midland%u2019s High-Lift Pallet Trucks

In working environments where pallet trucks are used, sometimes an ordinary hand pallet truck or life table simply doesn't scale the heights needed for a particular task. Midland Pallet Trucks, one of the UK's premier providers of pallet truck products, has an excellent range of high-lift pallet trucks available to buy, and with prices starting at just £383.25, there is something to suit every business and every budget.

Sometimes called hi-lifters or scissor-lift pallet trucks, the powerful electric units are designed for lifting pallets to a height easier for the operator to work with. They raise pallets from the floor to waist height so that those operating the truck don't need to constantly bend down and pick up or replace cargo. This is useful in preventing repetitive strain injuries within a workforce and helps to keep employees fit and healthy; lifting heavy boxes without the assistance of a high-lift pallet truck, even when following correct lifting procedures, can have a massive effect on not only the employee's health but the speed at which they work and therefore their productivity.

At the budget end of the range and suitable for any company looking to lift up to 1000kg at a time is the SLT10 High Lift Hand Pallet Truck. This manual truck has a three-stage trigger and numerous safety functions, such as its inability to move when the forks are raised and two built in lateral stabilisers which ensure good stability. The telescopic jack gives great rigidity for easy lifting and there are entry and exit rollers on the forks for easy loading of the pallets. This basic high-lift pallet truck is simple yet very effective and is available from Midland Pallet Trucks for just £383.25.

The SLP10B Stainless High Lift Hand Pallet Truck is also operated by hand and has a similar specification to the budget option, with the exception being that it can lift up to 1500kg. Finished in stainless steel, the heavy-duty pump will lift up to 1500kg to 800mm and is ideal for use in the pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries. As with all of Midland Pallet Trucks' products, the truck conforms to CE safety standards and is available for £1,600.00.

The most powerful high-lift truck in Midland's range is the EHS-0809 Electric High Lift Truck, which is ideal for loading and unloading vans and lifting cages or pallets to a workable height. The semi-electric lift greatly reduces the physical effort required to lift such cargo and improves working conditions for employees significantly. A charger is included with the truck, which has a tilt facility, a 210 degree turning radius and an automatic slowing mechanism on the descent which helps to prevent damage to heavy loads when they are lowered. This robust and powerful semi-electric lift is available from Midland priced at £1,495.00.

Choose The Right Fork Accessories For Your Forklift Truck

Pallet trucks are extremely common in many working scenarios; warehouses, factories and distribution centres all class them as an integral aspect of working life. They speed up the process of transportation, they prevent injuries to staff by effectively doing their heavy lifting for them and they last for years when properly maintained. It is their versatility and strength which makes pallet trucks so useful.  Midland Pallet Trucks, a premier UK provider of pallet trucks and lift tables, also stock a range of forklift truck accessories, turning their years of materials handling experience into a further essential workplace addition.

Forklift fork extensions are designed for the purpose of lifting longer or larger objects than usual with existing forklift trucks. They temporarily increase the length of the existing forks to increase the lifting capabilities of the truck. Midland Pallet Trucks supply a range of fork extensions for many different truck models. All of the extension sets are made from welded steel with superior strength for extra durability and safety.

The Fork Extensions 3KR/3W Series from Midland Pallet Trucks fits models 3KR57, 3KR58, 3KR59 and 3W667, making it the most versatile of the accessories available. Supplied in pairs, each set of extensions comes with a steel retaining strap to prevent slippage during use, and they are powder coated to ensure they don't become rusty. Midland also has available fork extension sets for the FE series of trucks, with much the same specifications as that of the 3KR series.

It is important to note when buying such accessories, that the forklift extension does not exceed the original fork length by more than 50%; this can change the truck's centre of gravity and makes the forklift unsafe for use. It is also advisable to consider the 'drop' of the truck when choosing the correct extensions. The 'drop' of the fork is the distance between the bottom hanger and the forks when the truck is at ground level. If the 'drop' is greater than 75mm, a closed base extension is recommended.

Forklift trucks can also be used as hoists, useful when lifting barrels, oil drums and other heavy items which may be difficult to manoeuvre. Forklift Truck Hoists can be easily fitted to the forks of a truck and can be slid and clamped anywhere along the length of the forks for optimum versatility. Midland Pallet Trucks have a 1000kg and a 2500kg hoist option, with a simple and robust design and a powder-coated paint finish. Prices start at £150.00 each.

Hydrogen-Powered Pallet Trucks On Their Way Into Factories

News from a pioneering Walmart factory in Canada states that new energy sources are now being utilised in everyday business appliances including pallet trucks. The new distribution centre in Balzac, Alberta, spent as estimated $693,000 converting their fleet of battery-operated pallet trucks to new machines which run on innovative hydrogen fuel cells. The huge sum is nothing compared to the $107million invested in creating the fully sustainable distribution centre, and experts have predicted that annual operational savings from their pallet truck switch will reach $269,000.

These prices may seem out of this world to many business owners in the UK, but it is only a matter of time before the prices of these new hydrogen-powered pallet trucks start to drop and become more affordable. Until then, pallet trucks experts, Midland Pallet Trucks, have a fantastic range of trucks which will suit any budget and last for as long as it takes for the sustainable pallet trucks to become a realistic prospect.

If a basic hand pallet truck will suffice in the wait for this new technology, the DF168 Lightweight pallet truck 1680kg (1.68T) Capacity is ideal. As the name may suggest, the truck weighs just 50kg, meaning it is easy to manoeuvre without compromising on the excellent 1680kg capacity it can carry. The forks are the ideal size for the popular European pallets and the truck has a high quality hydraulic pump, with a slow lowering hand control valve for extra security. The simple pallet truck is adaptable and versatile, with a price sure to appeal to all budgets; it is available from Midland Pallet Trucks for just £136.46.

Perhaps a manual stacker truck would be more suited to a specific business' needs. The 1500kg 1.6m Manual Stacker Truck is Midland Pallet Trucks' most budget-friendly manual stacker and is a great economical solution for lifting pallets. Its size means that it is ideal for operating in smaller areas, and the truck is precision engineered for the smoothest performance. The robust steel construction will ensure that this stacker truck will last just as long as its electric counterparts, and at just £771.75, it is perfect for businesses who are trying to cut back whilst they wait for the high-tech hydrogen trucks to become more readily available.

Maybe only an electric pallet truck will do; if so, Midland Pallet Trucks has a specially selected range which takes note of client specifications and requirements to ensure the trucks met every need. The 1000kg 1.6m Semi Electric Stacker Truck is at the lower end of the price range, at only £1,799.00. Powered by a 1500W 12v electric motor and with a built-in charger, the semi-electric stacker truck has a lifting speed of 90mm per second and, to optimise its practicality, it has adjustable fork sizes to allow pallets of many different sizes to be lifted. This truck is an ideal stand-in until the hydrogen-powered devices become customary.

How Pallet Trucks Can Help To Cut Costs

div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%;">
Investing in new equipment for a business can be a tough decision for any manager or owner. Consideration must be given to potential benefits, while examining how the advantages such new equipment might afford. Pallet trucks have been used in warehouse or factory environments for many years, helping to transport heavy or cumbersome goods from one place to another with minimal fuss and effort. But how does purchasing a pallet truck translate to cutting costs and maximising profit? Midland Pallet Truck's large range of weighing scale, high lift and hand pallet trucks have been proven to be a cost-efficient way to transport cargo from A to B, with a truck available for every conceivable task.

One of the first advantages of buying a pallet truck for use within a business is the effect it has on employees. If products were being moved less efficiently by hand, consider the positive impact it would have on staff were they suddenly able to work more productively with a hand pallet truck. A larger volume of goods can be moved, resulting in more work being done in a smaller space of time. Sick-days and loss of productivity can cost UK businesses an estimated £12 billion per year; the back problems usually associated with heavy lifting, causing sick days and slow production, can be cut out with the purchase of a pallet truck. The 1680kg (1.68T) Capacity 520 x 1150 mm hand pallet truck from Midland Pallet Trucks is ideal for smaller loads and can be operated by hand with no need for any separate qualifications or training. The truck complies to all European safety standards and is available for just £136.45.

Once the staff have established that they can carry out a much higher workload in a smaller space of time, work flows become streamlined. Productivity and efficiency increases, especially in delivery or dispatch companies, with goods able to be shipped to customers or to shop floors at a much speedier pace, allowing more orders to be completed and profit to be maximised. A heavy duty pallet truck such as the AC30B pallet truck 685 x 1220mm can hold up to 3000kg in weight, meaning that potentially 3 tonnes of cargo can be shifted all in one fell swoop. The knock on effect is that 3 tonnes of cargo can be potentially sent out for delivery at the same time. But what use is it being able to move 3000kg at a time if it's not possible to load them to where they need to be stored? Midland Pallet Trucks also has a vast range of manual stacker pallet trucks which can lift goods of up to 1500kg at once, to then load them onto shelving units or into vans or trucks for dispatch.

The Benefits Of A Pallet Truck In A Warehouse

Pallet trucks have long since been an established aspect of life in a warehouse. In an industry where potentially heavy or awkwardly-shaped goods are constantly transported from one place to the other to aid convenient storage and dispatch, pallet trucks can cut the time and manpower needed to carry out these tasks, saving space which is vital in a warehouse environment. In the current hostile economic climate, time is money and any expenses saved on manpower can be utilised in other areas of the business.

Electric high-lift trucks are an innovative way to streamline order picking. The pallet can be raised to the correct working height with minimum effort from the operator, preventing back and shoulder strains and opening the job up to those less physically strong. Where the traditional scissor-list trucks become static once they are extended, these electric lifters can be moved with the forks raised. Available from Midland Pallet Trucks, one of the country's leading suppliers of pallet trucks and warehouse appliances, the EHS-0809 Electric High Lift Truck can carry 800kg worth of products, with a charger included. It has many special features, including automatic slowing down of the descent speed when heavy goods are loaded to prevent damage to precious cargo. The truck is available for just £1,495.

Manual stackers powered by workers are also an excellent replacement for the typical forklift truck in a warehouse. Requiring no special license to operate, the manual stackers are much safer than electric appliances. The 1000kg 3.0m Manual Straddle Stacker has small dimensions compared to forklift trucks, saving much-needed space in a warehouse environment. It is constructed from robust steel and is operated by foot or by hand. Consider the extra products you could fit into your warehouse when aisle space is less of an issue. Created with small areas in mind, the manual stackers are precision engineered for unrivalled performance in a factory or warehouse, and at the great price of just £1417.50.

An important element of running a warehouse is keeping on top of the weight of goods. With the BFCII-2000 Pallet Truck with Scale and Printer, available for £1023.75, you can weigh cargo wherever and whenever you want for maximum efficiency. There is the facility to print out the weight and keep it for your essential records, with a large LCD display readable even in dim conditions. Weight can be measured using both the imperial and the metric system, with the option to power the pallet truck using an internal or external power supply.

The Benefits Of A Pallet Truck In A Transport Or Distribution Company

Factories and warehouses have long since been made easier places to work with the introduction of pallet trucks. They have been a familiar sight in such workplaces for years and are renowned for their ability to aid efficiency and productivity. In industrial units, where potentially heavy or cumbersome goods are regularly transported from one place to another, the pallet truck can cut the time needed to perform such tasks, and in a risky economic climate like the one we currently live in, time is money - meaning a pallet truck can give you a head start on your competitors.

The transport and distribution industry can benefit greatly from the use of pallet trucks. These types of businesses generally revolve around the transfer of goods from one destination to another and the quantity and weight of products transported can be vastly increased with the use of a simple truck. Consider the great feedback you'd get from clients when, with help from a piece of equipment such as a hand pallet truck, you tell them you can get their delivery to them a few days faster than a rival company. Contemplate the extra profit that could be made when your workforce is able to handle much larger volumes of products.

Whether you're a fledgling distribution company or a well-established transport business, it can be a struggle trying to decide which pallet truck would be the most beneficial to you and your team.  There are many types of pallet trucks, with different advantages and functions - it is just a case of choosing the one that can maximise your earning potential and improve efficiency.

The most basic pallet truck available is the hand pallet truck. With no special operating license needed, the hand pallet truck is operated manually, as the name might suggest. They can be fitted with brakes for ultimate safety and can transport tonnes of materials from one point to another with consummate ease. By placing the two prongs of the fork underneath the load and using the jack to raise them off the floor, the goods can then be steered to their destination and lowered with no difficulty. Hand pallet trucks are perfect for transport and distribution companies, where the name of the game is to get goods from A to B in the most efficient and cost-effective way.

If space is at a premium in your warehouse or factory, a manual stacker should be top of the shopping list. Manual stackers are mainly considered a cheaper alternative to a forklift truck, and are great for use in size-restricted areas or loading bays. They can be used to lift items off the ground and load them into storage or onto a vehicle for possible distribution or delivery. Again, for new buyers who are worried about the safety of their workforce when working with machinery, the manual stackers require no training or special certificates to operate - they are easy, safe, reliable and cheap.

Sainsbury%u2019s and Toyota Join Forces To Test New Battery on Pallet Trucks

Two major brands are using the pallet truck, a warehouse staple and quite often essential to the smooth operation of workplaces such as factories and storage facilities, to test a groundbreaking new type of battery technology.

Toyota and supermarket chain, Sainsbury's have joined forced to trial Toyota's breakthrough lithium ion battery. They are using heavy duty pallet trucks as the main thrust of the experiment because a pallet truck will generally be one of the hardest working pieces of equipment on the factory floor. The test is intended to allow Toyota to monitor applications for its lithium battery.

Being constantly in use, a pallet truck makes an ideal tester for battery performance, particularly in the aspects of battery efficiency and charging functions. Sainsbury's and Toyota paid tribute to the workhouse saying the fact they often '%u2026work double shifts%u2026.[puts them] at the forefront of operational planning'.

Toyota has fitted a fleet of pallet trucks with special wireless information systems, allowing it to record metrics such as how battery charging and batter usage work under practical conditions.

This is not the only time pallet trucks have been called into work by large companies. Most recently, supermarket chain Morrisons and a local college used a number of pallet trucks to train job seekers, equipping them with useful, practical skills that would serve them well when applying for jobs with the supermarket.

Midland Pallet Trucks Scissor Lift Tables Keeping Assembly Lines Productive

For those working in a factory or warehouse, tasks such as keeping assembly lines fully stocked are a part of everyday life. Keeping a constant supply of products and parts fed into machines is of critical importance as it will determine the productivity rate of the whole operation. Coupled with this need for fast, efficient, uninterrupted assembly line supply is the need to protect workers from having to repeatedly stoop and lift to access the boxes of parts required for the assembly line process.

Scissor lift tables streamline this whole process, ensuring machines can work uninterrupted without placing undue pressure on the bodies of employees. Scissor lifts are recognisable by their 'pantographs', a criss-crossed support system which extends and withdraws to provide a customisable working platform for personnel. They only move vertically, so are commonplace in factories, warehouses and other establishments where space is at a premium. While scissor lifts arte useful for building and engineering works and are able in a huge assortment of sizes for maximum versatility, scissor lift tables lend themselves best to smaller tasks such as lifting boxes and equipment to optimum working height.

Midland Pallet Trucks, specialist in both pallet truck and lift tables supply,  now stock a range of scissor lift tables perfect for ensuring  productivity as well as smooth operations and safety at all times. Based in the West Midlands, they import factory machinery such as high lift pallet trucks and aerial work platforms straight from the manufacturer.

Pallet Truck Provider Urges Health and Safety Awareness

The pallet truck provider, Midland Pallet Trucks is urging businesses to make sure they are aware of and compliant with Health and Safety guidelines. The warning comes after figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show that musculoskeletal disorders, including back pain, cost UK employers between £590 million and £624 million EACH YEAR.

The firm, which offers a range of pallet trucks, pump trucks and lift tables, says the right equipment used correctly can avoid unnecessary costs, which is a continuing focus for businesses in the current economic climate. Back pain alone results in five million working days lost annually - which can have a massive impact on productivity and business growth.

Health and safety implications are extremely important to consider. Costs don't simply arise from employees taking days off because of physical illnesses. Costs can also be incurred through incorrect use of machinery or heavy lifting which is likely to cause significant pain and physical problems. Using pallet trucks means workers can distribute materials more efficiently and the powered truck can also access places that perhaps are otherwise inaccessible or difficult to access.

A common myth of pallet trucks and lift tables is that they're expensive. It's incredibly easy to forget the benefits, which outweigh cost altogether. Using pallet trucks eases strenuous tasks while preventing potential back problems. Additionally, a set workflow using the trucks will result in an increase in productivity, which in turn has significant implications for financial growth and staff morale.

You can find out more information about how to better maintain and regularly check your pallet truck on the Midland Pallet Trucks website, which also features a range of other articles about the benefits of pallet trucks, lift tables and other products in the Midland Pallet Trucks range.

Is Your Materials Handling Equipment LOLER Compliant?

In any industry or business, compliance is a term that can never be taken seriously enough. Although an umbrella term applying to everything from internet security systems to data protection, compliance in workplaces that use materials handling equipment such as aerial work platforms will almost certainly contain a reference to LOLER.

LOLER stands for Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment regulations, which were introduced in 1998 to govern the safe use and maintenance of lifting equipment such as forklift trucks, cherry pickers and other equipment that allows workers to work at height. For any warehouse boss, storeroom foreman or other person in a position of responsibility in a place using lifting equipment, being familiar and compliant with LOLER regulations is both a matter of health and safety and a legal obligation.

The legislation states that lifting equipment must be strong and stable, and clearly marked with safe working load information. Many premises using lifting equipment will also use other pieces that don't require LOLER certification such as a pallet truck or static electric lift table, making for a number of pieces of equipment capable of handling different loads and weights with different legislative and health and safety requirements. This makes it essential that all equipment is clearly marked with its own particular safe operating limit and checked for compliance by experienced personnel. Not only does this ensure that the tool will continue to operate at its optimum levels, it also safeguards the employee operating the equipment.

LOLER legislation also requires that equipment subject to its guidelines be "positioned and installed to minimise any risks". This may mean a full analysis of the factory floor is required to determine safe and suitable positions for each piece of equipment. While some material handling equipment may be mobile, others will be fixed and this flexibility will need to be taken into account when positioning other items on the factory floor.

The third requirement of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations is that items are used safely, that work be planned as needed, organized and performed by competent persons. Although some types of materials handling equipments such as forklifts require certain exams to be passed, others do not. Despite this, proper care should be taken to ensure that workers charged with using the equipment are familiar with it and that employees new to the role are supervised until adequate experience has been built, after a period of in-house training has been provided.

Finally, LOLER states that equipment is subjected to regular examinations and maintenance. Manufacturers will usually provide guidelines as to how many operating hours or with what frequency a piece of equipment can be used before a service check be performed.

Pallet Trucks Being Used To Help Those Seeking Employment

A UK college is putting pallet trucks to use in a novel new way by using the warehouse workhorse as a means of helping job seekers find employment.

Bridgewater College in the North East of England has run an innovative six day training programme designed specifically for people out of work. It teaches essential skills for a series of roles in warehouse, driving, administration and catering. As part of the warehouse segment of the skills course, it has taught those out of work how to safely and correctly use both pallet trucks and forklift trucks.

The course has been funded by Supermarket chain, Morrisons which is opening a new store in the area. It came up with the job skills programme as a means of equipping those out of work and applying for a role with desirable skills and practical experience to place on their CV.

The Bridgewater College training programme has helped candidates to use pallet trucks safely and confidently, using simulated warehouse environments to make the experience as realistic as possible. The college has reported an overwhelming response to the programme, with anyone successfully completing the course guaranteed an interview for a job at the new superstore.

Midland Pallet Trucks, the pallet trucks and pump truck specialists who offer a wide selection of hand pallet trucks, weighing scale trucks, high lift pallet trucks and other dedicated materials handling equipment has welcomed the course. Phil Chesworth, managing director said, "One of the big advantages of pallet trucks over equipment such as forklifts is that they don't require expensive and prolonged training and examinations in order to operate. However, it is essential that the operators are skilled in the correct and safe use before using a pallet truck as part of their day to day operations.

"It is fantastic to see that a college and a major supermarket chain have both recognised this and given credence to the safe operation of such equipment as a job skill. It's very encouraging that they have taken steps to ensure suitable handling and that they consider knowledgeable operation to be a desirable job skill."

Pallet Trucks v Forklifts

If you run a small to medium sized company that needs to transport items from one side of a warehouse to another - or at least, the kind of large and heavy loads that would be neither safe nor practical for human beings to attempt to lift and move on their own - then sooner or later, you are going to find yourself confronted with the dilemma of whether to purchase a pallet truck or a forklift for the job.

Forklifts and pallet trucks are so often compared because they fulfill the same basic purpose, although it is important to note that they still differ in certain key areas. Before considering in precisely which aspects pallet trucks differ from forklifts and in which ones they are very much the same, it is important to take into account your firm's particular needs.

Indeed, although the forklift is the traditional piece of machinery that many people and companies associate with the task of lifting and transporting items around warehouses, there are actually several instances in which a pump truck may be a better solution.

Firstly and perhaps most importantly for the small business, pallet trucks involve a smaller up-front cost than a forklift truck. A wide range of pump trucks exist at various price points to ensure the operator only pays for the exact features they require. Such scenarios include high lift pallet trucks perfect for assembly lines through to hand pallet trucks for workplaces with a lighter pallet lifting load.

Another great advantage of the pump truck is its general versatility over the average forklift, and indeed this is perhaps never better demonstrated than by its comparatively modest size. At a time when many small to medium companies are under great pressure financially, it can be a real boon to have a piece of equipment for the lifting and moving of pallets that is just as suitable for large, expansive warehouses as it is for those small spaces where much greater agility is required than would be possible with a forklift.

Pallet trucks also boast greater versatility than forklifts in the sense that they do not require the extensive specialist training that is required for the operation of the latter. This means that increasingly valuable man hours need never be wasted waiting for the appointed forklift truck driver (and holder of a forklift truck license) to arrive to carry out the task of lifting and moving a particular pallet. Instead, almost any member of staff can safely use a pallet truck, only requiring minimal training.

There are various other features that pallet trucks offer that can make them a better option than a forklift, depending on the exact type of pallet truck that is chosen.

What Are High Lift Pallet Trucks?

Pallet trucks are essential pieces of kit with most warehouses, loading bays, storage facilities and industrial units relying on a truck in one form or another. Pallet trucks - or pump trucks as they are also known- are used to lift and transport pallets and the goods that are loaded with them.  They offer certain advantages over alternatives like the forklift.

As with any piece of industrial equipment, there is no one size fits all approach and under the umbrella of the term pallet truck lie many specific problem-solving solutions, tailored to a wide range of different requirements and budgets.  One such solution is the high lift pallet truck.

High lift pallet trucks are sometimes referred to as scissor lift pallet trucks or even hi lifters. As their name suggests, they are designed to make it possible to lift pallets to a height that is ergonomic. More specifically this type of truck is used to bring the top level of a pallet to waist height so that there is no need for the operator to bend down to pick up or put down items that are loaded on it, such as sacks or boxes.

With such an ergonomic function, high lift pallet trucks have a key role in relieving repetitive strain back injury. You may well see a high lift pallet truck being used on the factory floor in packing or product transfer areas. They combine the functions of a conventional pump truck with a scissor lift table, making  the work of employees less harmful to core muscles and bones.

Most high lift pallet trucks consist of a telescopic jack composed of 3 piston rods that create light pumping force, which in turn results in great rigidity. The descending speed is automatically slowed when heavy goods are loaded to lessen the chances of cargo damage. Others will sport additional functionality such as a tilt facility. This allows the operator to tip a load in to a cage or fence pallet. They may also boast fixed fork stabilizers to ensure rigidity.

Brush Up On Your Materials Handling Knowledge With Different Types of Pallet Trucks Guide

Keeping on top of terminology and being au fait with industry developments can seem like a full time job in itself. Particularly in technology-driven industries, being well versed in the different types of equipment and machinery at your disposal is labour intensive. It is however well worth keeping up to date with the various types of materials handling equipment on offer as the ability to speed up loading, unloading and dispatch can have a tangible effect on productivity and even the reputation of your business.

Although pallet trucks are often referred to as the workhouse of any warehouse, being able to distinguish between the various different types of pallet truck is not something that is always made a priority. Midland Pallet Trucks, the pallet and pump truck specialists recommend taking a few moments to familiarise yourself with the different models of truck on the market to be sure that you have the equipment best suited to your own individual business needs.

Hand Pallet Truck: The most basic of pallet trucks is by no means the least useful. Manually operated, a hand pallet truck transports heavy loads from point A to point B with the minimum of human exertion. An operator works a hand pallet truck by positioning the two forks under the item to be moved, raising the load off the floor through use of the jack and then steering with the handle to take the load to its desired destination.

An enormous range of hand pallet trucks provide complete flexibility - low profile trucks make light work of very low pallets or crates while trucks with extra long forks are ideal for dealing with very long loads. A range of weight capacities are also available for moving everything from regular to heavy loads.

Weighing Scale Pallet Trucks: A useful addition to busy factory floors and loading bays, weighing scale pallet trucks fill a very specific niche. A scale on the truck displays the weight of the load being moved. This can be useful in any number of circumstances, allowing cargo to be weighed when and where needed.

High Lift Pallet Trucks: Sometimes it is not enough to simply scoop up a pallet and haul it over to a second similar position and drop off. High lift pallet trucks have been designed to lift pallets to a useful, safe working height. This type of pallet truck is sometimes credited with helping to reduce back problem complaints in the workplace by being able to lift the pallet to a working height, allowing the worker to access the needed goods without having to continually bend and lift from a floor level. Pallet trucks of this design are most useful when integrated with production line and packing processes and can be of huge assistance to assembly and packing workers.

Manual Stackers: A manual stacker is slightly different to a pallet truck in that it goes one step in terms of functionality - not only does it make moving pallets easier, it can also provide lift assistance. As manual stackers make lifting much easier, they can be considered a cheaper alternative to a forklift or similar piece of equipment. They are suited for use in small spaces so make a perfect addition to any size-restricted warehouse or loading area where they are used to lift items or products onto a vehicle or into pallet racking for storage off the ground.

Would your business benefit from a pallet truck?

Running a business means making difficult decisions on a daily basis. One such conundrum is deciding whether or not to invest in new equipment and weighing up potential benefits against cost and other bottom line considerations.

A pallet truck is a familiar site in warehouses, factories and other places of work up and down the country. But, if your business doesn't yet have one, is it worth setting aside a budget and making time to pick a truck to integrate into your work practises? What advantages can you expect to see and how can pallet trucks - or pump trucks as they are sometimes called - streamline work flows, efficiency and productivity?

The first step is to decide if your business would be able to put a pallet truck or fleet of pallet trucks to use. Typically, they are used in a huge range of industries and sectors so if you have other types of industrial equipment or regularly have cause to move groups of goods or products from one place to another - for delivery or dispatch purposes of example - you may well find that a new pallet truck can deliver faster performance and increased productivity. In an age where time is money, this is an important point to labour.

Consider how profit margins would increase or how many more parcels would go out on time. Or how much more beneficial it would be for products to reach the shop floor or clients own locations at a speedier pace. What would the business benefits be if pallets or blocks of goods or materials could be moved from point A to point B in larger quantities and shorter time frames?

A hand pallet truck can be beneficial when you have pallets to move but, the quantities are fairly small. Hand pallet trucks have the advantage of assisting a human operative making it less strenuous to move materials from one place to the other. The simple addition of a hand pallet truck can cut out the threat of the back problems often associated with the repeated lifting of heavy loads and estimated to cost business around £12 billion a year in sick days and loss of productivity.

Electric pallet trucks can be of even greater benefit by making it easier to move larger loads with minimum exertion. Again, this capability to speed up materials handling can increase the productivity of the entire business, leading to bottom line financial gains. When considering electric pallet trucks as a possible materials handling solution, it is important to keep in mind that some degree of training should be provided for operators. The cost of this is relatively small but the theoretical and manual exams give peace of mind that the equipment will be properly used and able to continue its contribution over a longer period of time.

Lift Table or Manual Labour? Which Would You Choose?

For thousands of years, a manual workforce has been considered the ultimate tool in the race to colonise, industrialise and profit. Be it on a construction site or the factory floor, in a warehouse or an office, the presence of man has arguably made the single greatest contribution to any developing company or economy. Now though, advances in technology have usurped the human contribution in some areas such as car manufacture.

The presence of materials handling equipment on the factory floor is a case in point with certain items able to perform certain roles more efficiently and far safer than their human counterparts. It is important to remember however that in some cases, the appropriate equipment can actually aid the human contribution, helping to increase productivity and efficiency in a measurable way. The presence of a hydraulic lift table in a workspace is one such example of this harmony of man and machine.

Typically used to raise or lower goods or equipment, a lift table uses a scissor mechanism to raise large, unwieldy or heavy loads a certain (often short) distance. Lift tables are available in innumerable configurations and lend themselves to customisation. This makes them a perfect choice to suit very specific criteria, securing their place as an adaptable addition to any workforce. As they can be built to suit individual requirements, the range of possible uses is wide and varied. Common uses of lift tables include for vehicle loading and docking assistance, for ergonomic handling, materials positioning and pallet handling (they are used in a different way to pallet trucks).

Hydraulic lift tables are an invaluable asset to many an industrial workplace (commonly to be found in warehousing and distribution facilities, light assembly spaces, distribution hubs and more) by helping employees to work safer and faster. The presence of lift tables for manual and repetitive work can also be beneficial in helping to reduce back strain and other back problems amongst employees, in turn reducing days lost to sick leave and keeping sick pay costs down.

Ideal for use in scenarios such as order packing and work positioning, the same lift table can be used by any number of employees, helping a small 5 foot worker do the same job as a tall 6 foot worker as the hydraulic means the table can be adjusted to exactly the right height for each individual using the equipment in their daily duties.

Scissor Lift Basics

Working at height is often unavoidable in a busy warehouse or factory. With space at a premium, the ability to access elevated areas of the building such as walkways and gantries quickly and safely can help to keep the business working efficiently and all factory operations running smoothly.

Aerial work platforms facilitate this necessary task while also ensuring the safety of personnel tasked with a job space high above ground. Also known as scissor lifts, these essential pieces of equipment provide a mobile working platform, allowing operators to work safely at height.

A scissor lift is instantly recognisable by its crisscrossed 'X' shaped folding supports (called a pantograph), which vertically move a work platform to a pre-determined height. As the crisscross pattern elongates with the application of pressure at the base level, the platform is raised, allowing the worker to reach the desired height with the minimum of fuss.

A scissor lift will normally only move vertically so they are common sites around the outsides of buildings, within factories with gantries suspended above the workspace and around construction and engineering works. In order to allow closer access to the work area, a bridge is sometimes factored into the scissor lift design, bringing the technician closer to the job at hand after the vertical motion has been completed.

For any busy industrial hub, a scissor lift is considered an essential piece of equipment. Available in a variety of sizes, they can extend anywhere up to 18.8 meters above the ground, although smaller businesses will likely find lower-range models such as 1.7 - 3.0 metre aerial lift platforms to be ample . Since the original 1970s designs, modern scissor lifts have developed significantly and are portable and compact when not in use.

There are many options to consider when deciding whether or not to purchase this type of aerial work platform and then, picking the right scissor lift model to suit. Available in a range of permutations, scissor lifts can be hydraulic, mechanical or pneumatic. They can be electric or diesel and have a range of lift heights.

While a diesel powered lift is best used outside, an electric scissor lift is an ideal indoor solution and a popular choice for the small to medium sized warehouse or factory space- electric mobile aerial work platforms are quiet and emission free so suitable for use in spaces such as hospitals and shopping centres where members of the public may be present, as well as in warehouses, offices and factories where clients may be passing through, telephone calls being made or other tasks being carried out.

A battery powered option such as those available from Midland Pallet Trucks - who also supply a range of other material handling equipment including pallet trucks- can be plugged in and recharged for the ultimate in convenience.

Deciding to purchase a scissor lift is just the first step. Once a lift height has been selected and the equipment delivered to the workplace, training and maintenance must be considered.

Should you buy a new or used pallet truck?

When committing to purchasing a new piece of materials handling equipment such as a pallet truck, one of the most problematic decisions to arrive at can be whether to opt for a new truck or try and find a second hand model that fits the bill.

There are pros and cons to both routes and as pallet trucks play such a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of a busy warehouse or factory space, understanding the ramifications of each potential solution is often time well spent.

For any owner or manager responsible for budgeting, sales and bottom line figures, cost will undoubtedly be a primary consideration. For that reason, second hand pallet trucks can seem like an attractive prospect as they will usually be available for less than the original cost of the model. The downside to pallet trucks sourced in this way is that they may be a more expensive option in the long run if the manufacturer warranty has run out due to the age of the equipment.

It is possible to find new budget pallet trucks without having to resort to second hand pieces by contacting a specialist supplier such as Midland Pallet Trucks. With a choice of brands and sizes, the range has been developed to cater for most technical requirements and budgets.

In any piece of industrial equipment, the correct care and maintenance procedures must be rigorously followed and carried out at the manufacturer recommended intervals. When purchasing used pallet trucks, unless from a source known and trusted, it can be difficult to know if the appropriate time and attention has been spent on the equipment upkeep.

For any mechanical piece of equipment, or factory kit used by employees, health and safety is of the utmost importance. As pallet trucks, be they small hand pallet trucks or larger  high lift pallet trucks, are used to lift heavy loads precisely as a safer and more efficient option for employees than manual movement of goods, complete trust that the equipment has been well maintained, serviced and checked is essential.

This level of confidence is not always possible with a second hand truck as it is impossible to know how the device has been treated and used previously. A new pallet truck though is a totally known entity, purchased from the supplier in perfect working order and with a clean sheet in terms of maintenance. This allows the owner to be fully appraised of the history of the truck, guaranteeing all safety checks, routine maintenance and necessary replacements of parts are carried out in a timely manner by qualified professionals.

While a second hand pallet truck may seem like an attractive prospect at first glance, it is also important to question whether the equipment will have the most up to date technology and safety features as can be found on newer models. Any piece of equipment over a few years old will likely be missing at least one or two of the new advancements made in pallet truck design and manufacture.

Even simple considerations such as improved material strength or more modern scales on weighing scale pallet trucks can make a huge difference to productivity and usability. Older trucks purchased prior to some new technologies can be a false economy as they will need to be replaced much sooner than a newer model in order for the workplace to continue to run efficiently.

The Most Recent Developments In Pallet Trucks

Pallet trucks, or pump trucks as they are alternatively known, save a wide range of companies precious man hours and labour in the movement and storage of their loaded pallets, allowing employees to spend more time on their core responsibilities. Indeed, pump trucks have long been renowned as a more cost-effective, user-friendly and versatile alternative to comparable equipment like forklifts.

Today, there is a wide range of pallet trucks to choose from, along with a similarly wide range of reasons why your business may invest in them. But are you aware of some of the developments that have taken place in the world of pallet trucks in recent years that have been designed to continue to boost firms' efficiency and productivity? Here, we consider just a few of them.

In recent years, pallet trucks have seen continuous improvements in their safety, practicality and durability. Such innovations have included such basic components as the pallet trucks' wheels, with many models now being fitted with polyurethane wheels that allow for quieter running, better grip and greater protection for delicate floors and smooth surfaces. Many types of pallet trucks and similar pieces of equipment, such as scissor lift tables, also benefit from the latest innovations in heavy duty construction for greater safety and durability and a longer operating life.

For the lifting and transportation of palletised loads at height, manual stackers lift and transport goods quickly, safely and conveniently. They are available with a range of weight and height capabilities.

Alternatively, there are also high lift pallet trucks available which incorporate such features as telescopic jacks and lateral stabilizers. Such pallet trucks may also automatically slow their descending speed for safety to help to prevent any damage to heavy cargo.

Another recent development is the electric pallet truck. Also referred to as powered pallet trucks, these machines come with a range of lift heights and capacities and are motorised so as to make possible the lifting and moving of heavier stacked pallets. It may be possible to move an electric pallet truck by using the throttle on the handle to move forward or reverse. A key safety feature of many electric pallet trucks is the dead man's switch, which serves the purpose of halting the machine in the event of an emergency, such as if the operator becomes incapacitated.

Another variation on the pallet truck formula is the scissor lift table. These machines are able to lift components to higher areas with the use of a lifting mechanism, with their manoeuvrability making them a particularly strong option for those businesses that lack space in which to stack high shelves.

What Training Should Be Given To Employees Before They Are Allowed To Operate A Pallet Truck?

There's no question that pallet trucks can be incredibly useful for your business. They are less prohibitively expensive and more nimble in smaller spaces than alternatives such as forklifts, and it is strengths like these that have allowed pallet trucks to really make the difference to the productivity and efficiency of businesses the length and breadth of the UK. Another key advantage of a pallet truck (or pump truck as they are sometimes known) is that it doesn't require a huge amount of specialist training for your staff before they can use it for the purpose for which it was designed. Nonetheless, that is not to suggest that pallet trucks require no training at all, as we will explain further in this introductory article.

First of all, it's vital that staff members that wish to use the pallet truck ensure that they are wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) for safety reasons, including steel toe cap boots - particularly important given the heavy loads that pump trucks customarily carry and that could be so easily dropped if anything goes wrong.

Next, the member of staff in question should be trained to undertake a pallet check, which should be performed on a regular basis with the aim of ensuring that the pallet truck is in proper working order prior to use. So that the staff member is able to easily manoeuvre the pallet truck, they should determine that it is not only clean but also that its wheels are free of objects such as string.

Your employees should not attempt to use equipment such as high lift pallet trucks or weighing scale pallet trucks to move any type of load before they have received appropriate manual handling training. Once they have, they should continue to carry out the manual handling procedure in exactly the same manner as they have been trained to do, with heavy loads being moved by two people. Nor should your employees ever be afraid to request further assistance if they need it. They should also be trained to check the loaded pallet prior to moving it to ensure, if necessary, that it is correctly wrapped, and they should also be sure to neatly stack loads onto the pallet so that accidents do not occur.

In addition to the preparation of the load, pallet and pallet truck, your employees should also, of course, be trained in how to actually operate pallet trucks. This will involve being trained to depress the lever on the pallet truck's handle so that the forks descend to their lowest possible level, followed by pushing the forks into the middle space of the pallet.

Your employees will also need to be trained in the procedure of using the pump truck to raise the pallet from the floor, as it is only by doing this that it can be subsequently moved. This procedure involves pushing down the aforementioned lever on the pallet truck's handle before pumping the handle in an up and down movement. The pallet can then be carefully transferred to the desired new location when the employee pulls the truck's handle. For safety, it is vital that as the employee uses the pump truck, they always face in the direction in which they are moving, as well as that they always pull the pallet trucks behind them.

One of the few remaining things that the employee now needs to know is how to unload the pallet in its new location, which is done by depressing the lever on the truck's handle to lower the forks, followed by pulling the forks away from the pallet. As well as being trained in this procedure, the employee will now finally just need to be shown how to return the truck to its designated storage area well away from any Fire Exits, whilst also ensuring that for as long as the truck is not in use, its forks are parallel with a solid wall.

Midland Pallet Trucks Firm Goes From Strength To Strength

The latest Experian Insolvency Index may have cast a bit of a shadow over the Midlands in terms of the number of businesses struggling to survive but one West Midlands firm is celebrating bucking the trend.

Midland Pallet Trucks, wholesale suppliers of pallet trucks and other materials handling equipment, has announced a second ambitious expansion project, just a few months after confirming the creation of new jobs and increase in warehousing space.

At the start of 2011, the pallet trucks retailer occupied 40,000 square foot of space. In March, the Kingswinford based company took over an additional bay, expanding its warehouse and stockroom facilities to 50,000 square feet and creating a number of new jobs in the local area.

Today, an additional 10,000 square feet has been added on, meaning Midland Pallet Trucks now occupies 60,000 square feet. With this growth comes the creation of a number of new positions within the company, all of which are expected to be filled by candidates from Kingswinford and neighbouring towns.

Phil Chesworth, managing director of parent company, Midland Bearings Ltd said, "Our continued growth can be put down to us having an excellent, hardworking multi-skilled  team and no bank borrowings which gives the company a firm footing."

The addition of a sixth bay comes hot on the heels of an exciting couple of months for Midland Pallet Trucks. It has just added a number of new products to its offering, including three types of electric lift tables. Several new pallet trucks have also been introduced in recent months, including a budget pallet truck designed specifically for smaller businesses with more modest pallet handling needs and two new weighing scale pallet trucks.

All products supplied by the firm are held in stock in the West Midlands warehouse for immediate shipping to any part of the UK.

Save Time, Space & Money with Folding Pallet Trucks

Time and space are two qualities which are always at a premium in the worlds of trade, industry and business. Most companies are always looking for new ways to save time and streamline their work processes, whilst veering away from products which might take up too much space in their workplace of limited size. Even with a product which makes work less time-consuming and doesn't take up much room, there is the issue of budget; is it affordable?

These are not easy rules to adhere to, but Midland Pallet Trucks, a UK provider of pallet trucks and lift tables for over 20 years, have a new solution currently in stock. Their unique range of folding pallet trucks are the perfect solution for those looking to transport goods from A to B without purchasing machinery or units that will take up space when not in use, and eat away at a budget through costly maintenance and repair work.

The ML0308 Folding Pallet Truck weighs in at just 26kg, making it easy to lift and carry around when it is not in use. The folding design also means that it can be stored upright or even hung on a hook on a wall. The mechanical lifter does not have any hydraulic pumps to repair or conduct maintenance on, and no oil can leak from the truck; the leverage principle it uses instead is simple and effective. Pulling on the handle raises the load from the floor efficiently and with minimum effort, while the 300kg capacity means that the truck can be used for a whole variety of heavy or cumbersome goods. This innovative new design is available from Midland Pallet Trucks priced at just £112.95.

The ML0312 Portable Folding Pallet Truck has very similar specifications to its sister product, except it tips the scales at a lightweight 31kg. The leverage principle is in use again here and combined with the hardwearing and durable finish that is standard for all Midland products, the risk of the truck needing maintenance or repair is significantly reduced.  Not only can this design be stored efficiently, it can also be transported easily; its size and weight mean that it can be folded and transported in a car or truck, which is perfect for companies which may spread their work across more than one site. Business is a balancing act, and these two new products help to strike the perfect balance between saving time, saving money and saving space. The ML0312 Folding Pallet Truck is available for just £121.95.
