Who We Are

Meet the MTQ Team

The MTQ Team

The MTQ team formed to promote their sport to a wider audience and to "put something back" into it.

Midland Trailquests is one of the largest cycling organisations in the UK boasting more than 1500 members as of July 2010. Trailquesting is one of the UK's fastest growing sports and this has been reflected in MTQ's rapidly growing ranks.

Run as a not-for-profit organisation MTQ allows new members to join for free. Organisational costs are covered by a small fee paid to compete in an event. MTQ very much relies on the dedication of its volunteers who donate their time and energy for the love of the sport.

Internet Marketing and Web Application Development specialists Perceptis designed the excellent MTQ website with its online membership system and automated result processing. The site now even boasts online event entry which has greatly reduced the administrative workload which leaves the MTQ team free to more fully promote each event.

What Is A Trailquest?

A Trailquests is an orienteering event where competitors use a mountain bikes to visit as many control locations as possible within the given time limit.

At each control location their score card is punched. The rider (or team of two riders who must remain together at all times) with the highest overall score at the end of the allotted time is crowned the winner.

The amount of points available for visiting each of the various control locations varies and competitors are allowed to take any legal route between them. Maps of the locations are provided before each event meaning that good navigation and route planning skills are just as important as fitness.

Riders of all ages and both sexes regularly compete in Trailquests.

To join in one of the Trailquest events you must first register online. It is a condition of our insurance policy that all riders are members of Midland Trailquests. Unregistered riders who just turn up on the day will not be able to ride.

Lifetime registration is free and only takes a couple of minutes to complete.

Event Classes

To give everyone a chance of doing well, riders compete in event classes according to their age (or combined age for teams) and gender.

Leagues

Many of our events are part of a league where results count towards an overall league table.

John Wilkinson Memorial Trophy

John WilkinsonJohn Wilkinson was one of the founders of the sport of Trailquesting. Over the years he personally organised many successful and challenging events. John worked tirelessly to promote and improve Trailquesting and also worked to improve mountain bikers' rights more generally.
