Hasbro Mighty Muggs are adorable little 6 inch urban vinyl figures that are collector items. Their heads & arms move and make great pieces staging a showcase. Aren't they adorable? :-) These urban vinyl figures are selling out like crazy now, and if you aren't familiar with them, then you obviously haven't paid a visit to your local Wal-Mart, Target or Toys-R-Us.

So what exactly makes them so special, you ask? Well, for starters, they are absolutely "Made from 100% Recycled Awesome!" -- or in other words, they are fun! But don't mistake that saying with Mighty Muggs being made of recycled materials, as they aren't. Yes, sorry to disappoint folks, but they are not made from recycled materials. However, at an average price of around $10.00, they are affordable for being a good quality collectible. Lastly, they're just so darn cute! It's hard not to look at them and smile.

Mighty Muggs usually release their urban vinyl figures through "waves" and/or "revisions" -- meaning, there is a first wave of release, usually containing three (3) or four (4) Mighty Muggs figures. A revision occurs when they release the same wave of characters but perhaps add an extra figure to the wave or change the design elements of one or more of the characters within the wave. A new wave only occurs when they introduce new characters.

But why are they so popular? Well, the answer is rather simple... people just love them! Right now their popularity is growing stronger by the day -- and when they run out of stock, just like everything else, you can expect to pay a lot more than $10.00 per piece on eBay, as some are currently selling as high $75.00 each! The limited, more exclusive pieces (like Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars) will likely be priced at or above $100.00 when Christmas comes, you can bet on that! The same thing will likely happen on Amazon.com or the major retail stores.  When a certain character is high in demand, you can always expect to see a price increase, for example, try and find a "Marvel Venom Mighty Mugg" from the Spiderman collection and see how much that character is going for... and that's not even an exclusive figure.

The bottom line is this... whether or not you like them doesn't matter -- if you're a parent (or ebayer) and you're smart, you will shop early now and buy whatever you can find for the $10.00 price range... because when Christmas comes, the only ones left to buy will be to the highest bidders. Expect to see these things fly off the shelves as we get closer to the holidays, as they are already making an enormous impression with the little ones.

One of the great things about Mighty Muggs is the ability to make your own. Hasbro has been smart enough to offer blank white and black mighty muggs to their collection for artists, hobbyists and creative minds alike. Children and adults of all ages can now join in the fun and create their very own custom mighty mugg -- adding all the details they like. And what's brilliant about this is that if they're good enough, they can be sold via online through many venues such as eBay or cafe express.

For those who are not interested in creating their own or perhaps lack the artistic ability and imagination needed to create a custom mugg, then buying others creations is the perfect thing for them. As mighty muggs become more popular, you'll find many people who created beautiful, well crafted designs based on many comic book characters from Marvel and DC comics, comic strips, cartoons and many other favorable characters from tv shows and movies. But don't be surprised if these mighty muggs are a lot more pricier than $10.00 each -- as we've seen some go for as much as over $100.00 a piece.  Besides, who can put a price on art with it being so subjective?

CUSTOM MIGHTY MUGGS

Urban vinyl are toys (usually dolls and/or action figures) made of vinyl. Many often refer to them as designer toys due to their artistic nature, and while they are still categorized as a toy, they are mostly sought after by adult collectors and animation, movie fanfare memorabilia hobbyists. Urban vinyl toys are often poseable figures as well, whereby collectors choose to pose them in their display cases, on shelves, etc. as decorative art pieces. Can they really be described as being art pieces? Well, being that art is subjective and that some urban vinyl toys sell for very high prices, I'd say DEFINITELY YES!

Urban vinyl was first introduced in the 1990's in Hong Kong by a man named Michael Lau. Since then, a trend has been sweeping the world of collectible figures and becoming more and more popular each year. Many great artists and designers have taken notice, and as a result, created their own masterpieces which have been exhibited in museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, by Takashi Murakami.  Another well known artist such as Nathan Jurevicius, an Australian artist who's known for creating the successful comic book series entitled "Scarygirl", had the characters created into Urban vinyl figures as well.

Finally, as urban vinyl gained more popularity, Hasbro Toys has jumped into the arena by creating their exclusive brand entitled "Mighty Muggs", with action figures including a lineup of characters from Marvel Legends, Star Wars Universe, Indiana Jones Chronicles, GI Joe Collection and most recently The Transformers. Expect to see many custom urban vinyl figures appear on the market as well, with Hasbro introducing blank Mighty Muggs for collectors and artists to create their own personal Mighty Muggs.

STAR WARS MIGHTY MUGGS

The Star Wars Universe has incorporated their characters into the Mighty Muggs lineup and they are the largest of all the mighty muggs collectibles. Many of the earlier waves are difficult to find in stores but should be readily available online, especially eBay. With the Star Wars collection, aside from the fact that they are by far the fastest growing collection amongst the Hasbro Mighty Muggs, one thing that separates this collection from the rest is that most of these urban vinyl dolls come with some sort of prop, whether it be lightsaber, blaster or detachable helmet. The detailing for this collection also appears to a bit more detailed than the others -- and I can only assume that is because of George Lucas, as he is somewhat of a perfectionist and I'm sure he has some say in the final look of the dolls.

I read somewhere that the Star Wars characters outsell any other mighty mugg easily by a ratio of 3:1, and as a result, it appears Hasbro has paid attention to this and have designed and re-released many of the earlier waves and will continue to do so in time for Christmas. I want to stress though, this is not confirmed -- I only read about that, so to be safe, if you can find a hard to get to item for about $10 more, then I would get it; because one thing is for sure, if they are sold out, by Christmas time, you can bet that these same muggs will easily sell for around $50 each.

Urban vinyl figures have a heavy influence in pop culture, particularly with artists from the underground areas.  These urban street artists mostly consist of DJs, Independent Comic Book Illustrators, Graffiti Artists, Street Performers and Musicians.

An offshoot of hip hop and youth-oriented popular culture, urban vinyl often depicts real-life figures from Asian and American culture, particularly artists who perform in a hip-hop or related styles. Noteworthy examples are Lau's depiction of the LMF rappers from Hong Kong, and figures based on the members of the virtual electronic band Gorillaz, produced by Jamie Hewlett and made by Kidrobot.

A toy may be designed entirely by a single artist, including the body, clothing, accessories, and paint applications, or one artist may create a sculpt for a figure and another artist may apply paint and other finishing details. Some pieces are a collaborative effort, with as many as 12 different artists contributing to the final design.

Urban vinyl is commonly designated as either Eastern Vinyl, including anything designed and produced in Asia or Australia, or Western Vinyl, encompassing pieces which are designed and produced in North America, South America, or Europe. Urban vinyl figures have become highly collectible. Rare pieces may sell for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

MARVEL MIGHTY MUGGS

Get ready for collecting all your favorite Marvel Legends characters and super heroes as Hasbro continues to roll out these great mighty muggs. The second best selling inventory from Hasbro is growing at a rapid pace. Again, many of the earlier waves are difficult to find in stores but should be readily available online, especially at eBay. What's great about Marvel Legends is that there are so many characters to create a mugg on, that Hasbro will likely be rolling these out for years to come. So many of the Marvel characters have changed throughout the years, and Hasbro toys has brought this to attention by creating different muggs in different costumes, as seen in the Spiderman and Peter Parker muggs. So far the collection hasn't produced nearly as many as the Star Wars collection, however, you can expect to see that Marvel mighty muggs will likely surpass Star Wars by the end of next year with the number of truly unique urban vinyl dolls, as their collection is growing very fast.

One thing to take note of is that certain urban vinyl dolls will not be distributed though retail outlets, but are in fact only available online. These Mighty Muggs are considered "exclusive" or "limited editions", such as Thanos and the Red Skull. Such muggs will be priced accordingly and are expected to be above the MSRP $10.00 price range that Hasbro has set. By the looks of it online, you can expect to pay as high $50.00 each for one of these. Since they are exclusive, they will not be reproduced ever again, so if you can find one, then I suggest you grab it if you want a great collection.

G.I. JOE MIGHTY MUGGS

The crew from G.I. Joe has finally arrived to the land of the Mighty Muggs. With the upcoming film release this winter 2008, these are sure to be a big hit. G.I. Joe is a classic toy for little boys as Barbie is for little girls, so rest assured that these muggs will go quickly. Hasbro has gotten smart about releasing their first wave of these muggs by introducing some great characters in the lineup such as Snake Eyes and Duke. The detail seems to be very good too, with many having gun props as accessories. One can only assume that many great characters will appear in the near future... and hopefully, the muggs themselves will come with a lot more accessories.

Well, don't worry if you're not up to the challenge, because Hasbro has just added the new Indiana Jones chronicles to their lineup of Mighty Muggs. Yes it's true! Now you can collect Indiana Jones himself, the terrifying Mola Ram and youthful and hip Mutt Williams. Many of the earlier waves are difficult to find but are still available in some stores. They should all be readily available online though at many fine stores. Just like the Star Wars collection, Indiana Jones brings about much of the favorable characters from the action films. There are plenty of characters that will be introduced in the collection, so we can expect to see a lot of "Bad Guys" introduced very soon.
