Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators

30-year-old Mike Fisher plays center for the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League. He was drafted by Ottawa in the 2nd round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft from the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. Fisher is now in his 11th NHL season with the Senators, having scored 163 goals, 177 assists for 340 points over more than 650 NHL games in his career. He missed the majority of the 1999-2000 and the 2003-04 seasons due to injury.

Fisher ended the season with 25 goals, 28 assists, for 53 points in 79 games this season. Reports are that Mike Fisher was carrying the team on his back while injuries are plaguing the Sens. With Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek all out with various injuries, the Senators were relying on Fisher to pick up the slack left by the absence of snipers.

And as of this past July, Mike and his girlfriend, lovely singer Carrie Underwood had become Mr & Mrs Fisher. Many congrats!

Big News! Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood To Be Married

Carrie Underwood and Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher were married in July 2010. The couple became engaged in December 2009 after dating for about a year.

Underwood, the winner of the 4th season of American Idol, is a multi-platinum selling recording artist and multiple Grammy winner and is currently the ACM Entertainer Of The Year.

Elgin-Alexander Fraser and Mike Fisher

This is one of my favorite pictures, because of the story behind it. Mike Fisher holding 3-year-old Elgin-Alexander Fraser, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. One of Elgin's wishes was to meet the Ottawa Senators players, which he did at a practice. The team took Elgin out onto the ice and he skated with the team, scored a goal on netminder Ray Emery and took a ride in Mike Fisher's arms. The picture was on the front page news of the Ottawa Sun.

Elgin was at a Ottawa-Buffalo playoff game that the Senators lost. Defenseman Chris Phillips promised him that the Sens would win the next game in Buffalo. The day before the team left to play the game, Mike Fisher stopped by Elgin's home, and visited for a few hours with the seriously ill youngster, spending time with him, playing cars and watching movies. He did this before heading out to play one of the most important playoff games Mike would ever play in his life. The Senators did win the game, and Elgin managed to hold on to watch them do it. And died only a few hours after.

Mike Fisher has a website and is offering kids a personal autograph and tickets to an Ottawa Senators hockey game. Each month one youngster will be picked and awarded these prizes ~ but there is something you have to do first: read a book and then write a book report on the book.

Mike Fisher's Career NHL Stats

Although not in the top ranks in the National Hockey League for points, Mike Fisher has contributed to the Ottawa Senators greatly, with his solid play. Fisher has been with the Senators since beginning his NHL career in 1999-2000, just recently getting his 300th point. His statistics for the 2010-11 season are shown above and are not included here. As well, during the NHL lockout season when the entire 2004-05 season was cancelled, Mike played in Europe with EV Zug-Swiss, getting 9 goals, 18 assists for 27 points in 21 games. For the playoffs, Fisher also contributed 5 more points in 9 games.
