What is Mike Rowe Works?
Many of you have probably heard of a guy named Mike Rowe. He's the star of the now famous TV series on Discovery channel called Dirty Jobs. So a guy (and his production crew, don't forget those intrepid souls) gets to climb through and handle all manner of things unclean. What's so special about his message?
After reading a great article from Fast Company I decided it was time to man up, and post a blog entry about Dirty Jobs (and his intriguing web site), and create a lens focused on answering this question.
Mike put together a short "press conference" on the nature of the site which you're likely to enjoy:
"MR: OK. Tell me about mikeroweWORKS.com.
Mike Rowe: mikeroweWORKS is my latest effort to call attention to these issues. It's a website whose primary purpose is to celebrate all aspects of labor. Hard work needs a PR campaign; mikeroweWORKS is my attempt to launch one. Think "Rock the Vote," only more like "Back to Work!"
The goal is to create a web community for skilled hands on work, the celebrate Dirty Jobs. Without further delay, it's best you hear from the man himself what Mike Rowe Works is all about.

A short bio for Mike Rowe
Here are a couple of excerpts from Discovery.com:
"As the creator and executive producer of Discovery Channel's Emmy-nominated series Dirty Jobs With Mike Rowe, Mike has spent years traveling the country, working as an apprentice on more than 200 jobs that most people would go out of their way to avoid. From coal mining to roustabouting, maggot farming to sheep castrating, Mike has worked in just about every industry and filmed the show in almost every state, celebrating the hard-working Americans who make civilized life possible for the rest of us."
"Before Dirty Jobs, Mike's resume was no less eclectic. Without any formal training, he began his career as a professional musician, faking his way into the Baltimore Opera, and earning his union card in the process. Soon thereafter, he crashed an audition for the QVC Cable Shopping Channel, where he was immediately hired to sell dubious merchandise in the middle of the night. There, he impersonated a host for nearly three years, spending most of his tenure on double-secret probation, while learning the ins and outs of live television. After that, he worked when he felt like it, narrating, writing, acting and hosting programs like Worst Case Scenario for TBS, On-Air TV for American Airlines, The Most for History Channel, No Relation for Fox and New York Expeditions for PBS."
I enjoyed this one page story/slice of Mike's history, thanks to Ellen McGirt of Fast Company once more.

- Mike I have watched every show you have ever done. I salute you in your effort to show that the best jobs are yet to come. You spend alot of time showing how people do "manual" labor". I todays society that is such a dirty job. I for one have my degree in Archetectural Engineering and have one worked in an office.I personally have worked in building all my life and have never been happier. I have built bridges to jewelry boxes and alway loved my jobs. Please continue get the message across that skilled proffesional labor is as you said a VERY NOBLE JOB, and not to mention the job that is becoming very much in demand. Thank you for all you have done and please keep it up.
(ps) I never said I was good in grammar or spelling.
