Holmes on Homes - Hero to Home Owners
He's a modern day hero. He's every shoddy contractor's worst nightmare. He's the star of Holmes on Homes. He's Mike Holmes.
Once a week we get to watch Mike Holmes rescue home owners from the clutches of despair and often times, financial ruin.
Mike apprenticed under his dad who frequently told Mike "If you're going to do something, do it right the first time" and has continued to use this as his motto. Mike is a craftsman with integrity, who knows the importance of resourcefulness and craftsmanship.
"I've been fixing a lot of sloppy, lazy and dangerous work for the past two decades" says Holmes. "I think it's time to expose the work of these so-called contractors and help some homeowners make informed decisions. I want to take the word 'minimum' out of the construction industry and stop the slow death of craftsmanship".
In 2006 the Holmes Foundation was launched by Mike Holmes. The foundations main goals are to assist Canadians who need help or resources to get their homes and lives back after botched renovations; and to support the training of youth in the skilled trades, through apprenticeships, scholarships and bursaries.
A True Hero.

- We watch your show and love it. My daughter wants to be a contractor. We just bought a house that has turned out to be a real lemon. We were lied to by the seller and our own real estate agent. We had an inspection and were told there were only minor problems. When we moved in we found that even the septic system was not working at all. The pool salt water system was completely shot. The polaris pump is seized up and nonfunctional. The A/C system was so dirty that it could not be serviced. There were terrible stains on the carpet that the seller covered with furniture. The countertop was badly stained also. We have replaced the livingroom carpet with hardwood flooring but do not have enough money left to replace the countertop or fix the rest of the problems. We paid $279,000.00 for this house and believe we really got screwed! We would love it if you could come to Mt Pleasant, Texas and help us!

- We watch your show and see you do amazing stuff. Our kitchen is a fire hazard with no outlets for a gfi. they are all regular plugs and they had the kitchen light hooked up to two wires and we cannot find the third. Right now we have exposed wires in two outlets and the kitchen ceiling. The 220 is cracked and a mess. also a live wire. The electrical box is not even marked right and the furnace is about to fall threw the floor. Called our home owners ins. to see if they would cover it and I will find out in about two weeks or whenever they get an inspector out here. The only other thing we can do is call dte being that it is not up to code and see what they say. All the kitchen walls have to come down and have to support the furnace somehow. If we could just get the wiring properly we could redo the walls and floor ourselfs. This house was a rental for yrs then we bought it and it surprises us that the inspectors never caught this and we know the ex-landlord personally and he knows we have four kids and shame on him for not saying anything. Not asking for the whole to be redone just the wiring which is real important for our safety. We do not have anywhere else to go and should be able to live in our house but if an inspector came in here they would tell us it is unliveable. Hope you read this soon.

- We love the show and think MIke and his crew are awesome ! We are having our own issues and would love to have him or some one like him in our area of Apopka FLorida. We bought in a beautiful community next to nature state park and Plant Nurseries away from the city and traffic. Our house will only be three years old this June. We have been decieved by the builder with a non disclosure and now that has put my community and home in a year of drama and stress. Because a major highway off ramp and toll booth being built right behind my house, using vibratory machinery and constant construction this has caused damage inside and out. We do not know how bad the damage is,cracks are popping up all over. Outside there are stairstep, vertical and horizontal cracking. Inside the floor has cracked from front door straight through the house. The entire foundation is cracked, and some ceiling areas. What can be done to fix this damage, did it cause our ground to move and will it be safe to live in ? How can we make this better ?

- Mike Holmes you are AWESOME! Thank God for kind and honest people like you!!! I watch your show and I always get chills on all the wrong doing contractors do and how you can turn things around and make them right. Just seeing the big smiles a sigh of relief from the folks you help is price less. I have a problem that I need your help with. We did an addition(1,600 sq ft) around 2002. Things didn't seem right and when We started pointing things out to the contractor and questioning other things, he left and we were forced to finish this large project how we could, getting friends and people that knew the trait to help out. ( he had finished with our budget money). Well our problem is that we think he didn't do the foundation right to support an upstairs room. Right away there were foundation problems. We payed a company to come and level the whole house. It helped some but this year, the middle of the home seem to be sinking in!!!! There is mayor problems because we can see how it is sinking in and it's really causing structural damage(sheetrock, tile, cabinets, shower, etc). Our repairs are going to be major now. Not only that, but I'm afraid the upstairs will crumble down!!!! Our two boys sleep upstairs. PLEASE HELP US!!! What advise can yo give us???? Can there be a way to repair the foundation that is sinking in the middle??? Who do we call that is reputable to help us out before its too late and the damage gets worst?
I would sincerely appreciate your help. My name is Rosa and husband's name is Ruben and we live in Houston Texas. Thank you and keep up the good work!!
