Mildura Australia "A Desert Oasis"
Mildura is an oasis in the Desert Located in the far north west corner of Victoria. In 1835 the Chaffey Brothers established an irrigation colony on the banks of the Murray River and settled in Mildura. Since 1893 Mildura has produced some of Australia's Most delicious fruits. Mildura is heavinly related on the wine, fruit and tourist industry in today's society. The most part of Mildura is made up of fields of table and wine grapes and hectares of citrus fruits. Actually one seventh of todays citrus growers are concentrated here in Mildura.
WB Chaffey's home The Rio Vista still remains in tacked from this era. The Rio Vista has been developed into an arts and Heritage Centre. This beautifully restored mansion is a fine example of early Queen Anne Architecture. Next to the original building is an art gallery,museum and ampithetre.
The Grand Hotel also from this era still stands proudly in Mildura. The Grand Hotel is situatied at the begining of town and overlooks the Murray River. Today it is the largest Hotel in Mildura with a pizza cafe, bottle shop and restaurant.
Paddle steamers parade along the waters of the Murray as a colourful reminder of a time when the murray was a major inland transport route. Today you can take a paddlesteamer for a short or extended cruise,safari tours and romantic dinners cruises along the Murray.
This is a beautiful place to visit for a vacation for the whole family with many things to do for all ages.
