Popularity Of Military Backpacks

The Military Backpack is become quite popular in all areas of sports and the outdoors. For campers, trekkers and other outdoor enthusiasts the backpack is the most important piece of equipment you can have, (besides a knife and fire lighting tools for the survivalist).

After all, this is where you will carry dry clothes, food, a tent, sleeping bag, cooking utensils and other important equipment chosen for your journey.

With this in mind what you don't want is a pack that will fall apart after a few weeks of use and certainly don't want one that will leak every time the weather turns to light showers.

Modern Day Military Backpacks

Modern day packs are absolutely amazing made with strong and water resistant materials and designed to be comfortable, compact yet big enough to hold a lot of equipment. Where do you think these backpack designers got their ideas from?
Yep, by studying the military backpack.

Let's face it, these military bags have been designed to take a fair beating. They can carry a full load of equipment comfortably as well as storing weapons and ammunition and still stay intact regardless of the combat going on around them.

These packs have been tested in Vietnam, Afghanistan and during Desert Storm. Thousands upon thousands of soldiers have carried these backpacks through jungles, through deserts, in the heat, in the rain and in the snow. Can you beat this kind of testing?

Types Of Military Backpack

It can be a little daunting trying to pick out the right military backpack so it would be a good idea to look at the various types available.

Just click a type below and have a look at what is on offer.

Who Uses These Military Bags?

You don't have to be a soldier to own a military backpack. These packs are freely available in stores and are fast becoming a top seller for the outdoors enthusiast. Whether you are camping, hunting, trekking, cycling, playing Paintball or Airsoft games, climbing, traveling there will be a pack that will suit your needs.

If you are looking into buying a backpack you need to make sure it fits in with your chosen recreation. It needs to be the right size, shape, and have all of the right accessories that your particular needs require.

The Alice Pack

Here is a military backpack that has been around since the Vietnam war and is still a popular buy for many outdoor enthusiasts. It was one of the first military style packs that changed the way backpacks are designed today. It has the standard large space surrounded by three outer pockets.

It's a great pack for day outings and pretty good for use in the sport of Paintballing or Airsoft as the outer pockets come in very handy for storing the ammo.

The Molle Military Backpack

This backpack replaced the Alice bag in the Desert Storm war. It was an improvement on the smaller Alice bag and became a design model for many of the camping backpacks you see today.

Molle is an acronym for MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment and is a totally different look to the Alice bag with its pockets placed around the pack in a more slime line fashion.

The Molle can be adapted to suit your needs by adding different pouches to it to store extra stuff. As standard these military backpacks also incorporate a vest used to carry personal equipment. This is a great bag for the trekker or the camper who needs the room but also the comfort for long treks.

The ILBE System Backpack

This is the most modern of the military backpacks and pretty much has all the features of the old style packs plus a little extra. Any imperfections in the Alice or Molle packs were ironed out for this pack making it pretty versatile.

The Improved Load Bearing Equipment military backpack system has been designed and used for the US Marine Corps but of course becoming very popular with civilians. It has three different main features being the main pack, a hydration system and an assault pack and so every area of backpacking design have been looked into and perfected.
