Now, she might not be a military mom (actually, you can't tell for sure!), but she does make a good income working from home with a website. Definitely worth watching and considering if you consider yourself a non-techno savvy mom!

Getting Started Online

One of the things that seems to hang most people up when they try to get started online is just that...how to get started. There are SO many options and probably about the same number of scam artists trying to separate you from your cash.

Being a military family for 10 years, I know that there weren't many times when we had "extra cash" to lose on scams. I've tried a bunch and here's what I figured out. Go with people you know or with people
referred by the people you know. Sounds simple, right?

Well, I have gotten to know a good number of people in my few years online and there is one common thread to what I have learned. The easiest way to start a business online is with eBay.

Why eBay? For one thing, it doesn't take too much to learn and it doesn't cost much to get started. Plus, you can easily make $ in a week...not too many other businesses can do that.

I started on eBay WAY back in 1998 after our first daughter was born. We were living in base housing (1959 Capehart housing...very lovely!) and our new baby was outgrowing things faster than we could buy them. So, I decided to take my little webcam (that probably didn't even measure 1 Mega pixel...I know. Gasp at will!) and took some photos and put them on eBay.

You know what? They SOLD! I couldn't believe it and I was a fan of eBay from that point on.

Now in 9 years, eBay has come a long way. You used to have to host your own photos, had no fancy listing designers and everything was in black text. Currently, eBay has a downloadable program called Turbo Lister that you can have on your desktop to create multiple item listings and then upload them to eBay all at one shot. I can get TONS of listings done in so little time that I don't know how I ever had the patience to do it before all these new tools.

Wait, I DO know why I had the patience...I was making a little money!

Yes, money is a powerful motivator when you're a military mom. Is it the best motivator? Well, no, but I'm just being real here! :o) When you are at home with little ones all day and you can make a few bucks by playing on your computer, it's a good feeling!

Alright, so I have motivated you to try eBay. Where should you begin? I suggest digging out all the junk, I mean stuff, you have accumulated through all your military PCSing. Wedding gifts you've never opened (just make sure they aren't from family that might visit and ask where it is...I speak from experience here!), baby clothes, your pre-baby clothes (if you still fit
