Got Milk?
Dairy Milk
Is cow's milk an appropriate food for humans?
Cow's milk is the number one allergic food in the country. It has been well documented as the cause in diarrhea, constipation, cramps, bloating, gas, gastrointestinal bleeding, iron-deficiency anemia, eczema, asthma, acne, fatigue, sinus and ear infections.
It has also been linked to insulin dependent diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and infertility.
Most people don't recognize they are allergic to dairy because the symptoms very person to person. One person may just get cramps, bloating and gas where then next person suffers with asthma.
Dr. Benjamin Spock, author of the world-famous book Baby and Child Care, wrote in 1998, "Cow's milk is not recommended for a child when he is sick-or when he is well, for that matter. Dairy products may cause more mucus complications and cause more discomfort with upper respiratory infections."
Milk contains contaminants that range from pesticides to drugs. Milk naturally contains hormones and growth factors produced within a cow's body. In addition, synthetic hormones are commonly used in dairy cows to increase the production of milk. Because treated cows are producing quantities of milk nature never intended, the end result can be mastitis, or inflammation of the mammary glands. Treatment of this condition requires the use of antibiotics.
"The fact is: the drinking of cow milk has been linked to iron-deficiency anemia in infants and children; it has been named as the cause of cramps and diarrhea in much of the world's population, and the cause of multiple forms of allergy as well; and the possibility has been raised that it may play a central role in the origins of atherosclerosis and heart attacks." - Frank A. Oski, M.D., "Don't Drink Your Milk!" pg. 3
Cow's milk was not designed to be compatible with the human body. Whether it is unpasteurized, raw, processed, unprocessed, fat free, skim or 1%. Modern techniques of pasteurization and homogenization have compounded the health problems associated with it. There are many alternatives now available which, in my opinion, offer much healthier options for both children and adults.
Many people claim that after reducing or eliminating their consumption of cows' milk and other dairy products, they saw an improvement in fatigue, digestive problems, joint pains, skin conditions, mental fog, and a variety of other conditions.
What About Calcium?
Milk Isn't the Only Answer
Due to the high protein content of milk, there is a net loss of calcium in the body when consumed. The excessive protein in milk lowers blood calcium levels, causing the body to draw on calcium from the bones.Good non-dairy sources of calcium include calcium-fortified Orange or Apple juice, Green Leafy Vegetables such as Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, collards, kale, mustard greens, Swiss chard, and other greens are loaded with highly absorbable calcium. Beans are loaded with calcium and also contain magnesium, which your body uses along with calcium to build bones. Many people prefer Calcium supplements which are also widely available.
Non-Dairy Sources of Calcium
U.S. Recommended Daily Intake of Calcium
Infants and children from birth to age 3 400 to 800 mg
Children from 4 to 6 years old 800 mg
Children from 7 to 10 years old 800 mg
Men from adolescence through adult 800 to 1200 mg
Women from adolescence though adult 800 to 1200 mg
Women during pregnancy and breastfeeding 1200 to 1500 mg
Post-menopausal women not taking estrogen 1500 mg
Calcium alone is not enough.
Magnesium is required for your body to properly absorb calcium.

Hemp Milk
Legal & Healthy Alternative to Dairy
I weaned my daughter onto this milk and she loves it.Though its name might be a bit misleading, organic hemp milk is a perfectly legal, not to mention healthy and contains more nutrients than soy and cow's milk. It also tastes quite good and contains no allergens.
Hemp milk is rapidly gaining popularity as a replacement for cow and soy milk. Hemp milk is very nutritious. It is rich in protein, Omega-3, Omega-6 and Essential Fatty Acids.
One concern that people have about organic hemp milk is that it might contain some of the chemical THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is found in marijuana. Rest assured that this ingredient is not present or associated with hemp milk.
The Benefits of Organic Hemp Milk - "Though its name might be a bit misleading, organic hemp milk is a perfectly legal, not to mention healthy, alternative for vegetarians or non vegetarians. Produced from the seeds of the hemp plant, this milk has only begun to be sold in the United States within the past few years."

- Great lens. We heard one could make their own almond milk, by mixing almonds and warter in a blender. We're not sure that is true. Thank-you for the good info.

- Very interesting lens, lots of great info! I respectfully disagree that ALL cow's milk is unhealthful; raw milk from healthy cows is a great health food and has improved my family's health greatly! But I certainly agree that no one should drink pasteurized milk (or soy).
