What does this page have to do with Service Members & their families?

Wondering why you were directed to this site? What can you learn from this site? There are lots of good links here to other various sites, support groups, stores, etc all that have been hunted down and hand picked by me, a Marine wife who survived two deployments and other Marine wives. If you find any links or stores that should be added here, please let me know by email. MillerR17@hotmail.com

Thanks, Abigail

How am I going to survive this deployment...

One of my blogs.

High school done, college check, career...on hold for Scarlett Adell Miller.

I'm 19 years old. I've been married since August 31st, 2006. My husband recently got back from Iraq, again. I had our first child, Scarlett Adell Miller on November 21st, 2007 @ 9:40 am, without my husband there to hold my hand or cut the cord. Yes, it's sad, but don't feel sorry for me, because sacrifice is service too. I'm a Marine Wife.

I knew what marrying my high school sweetheart & best friend would entail, I knew he was a Marine, I knew there would be deployments, I didn't know there would be a baby, haha. God has funny ways of surprising people. In our first year of marriage so many unexpected things were been thrown our way, but I can honestly say I love my husband more and more every day, and it's been that way since I was 14 years old and I met him in the "light box."

I love my husband very much and wouldn't trade any of this heart ache in for anything else or anyone else. He is my hero, my fishing buddy, my chef, my dishwasher, my best friend, my foot rubber, my honey bunny, my companion, the father of my child, my Marine, and above all my husband.

How Did I End Up Married At 17?

Only In Virginia & The Marines

People often ask me how I ended up married at the "tender age" of 17. It's hard for some people to understand that marriage was inevitable for Nathan and I, it was only a matter of time and family approval.

Nathan called me from Iraq one day, and just decided we should get married when he got back, "Sure, why not?" I said. I told him I didn't want a ring (I got one anyways), and I was sure my mother would sign the papers considering I graduated high school before I could legally drive a car and was soon to be finished with college and Nathan and I have been together forever and might as well already be married.
I told my mother, "I'm getting married when Nathan gets back, and you have to sign the papers." My mother never missed a beat, she said she would and we were both excited and anxiously waiting for Nathan to return from Iraq the first time.

I'm not very close to Nathan's family...as they didn't seem to like the fact Nathan & I lied about my age until he got ready to join the Marine Corps. I was 14, he was 17, yeah it's a big difference then...but is 50 and 53 so much different? Anyways, that started some hoopla against poor little Abigail, the devil girl who causes trouble, and for the record I never caused trouble...Nathan and I were just always in trouble, together, just like everything else.

We ended up giving Nathan's family 24 hour notice, or maybe a little less, that we were getting married. His mom "fell of the wagon", others ask me when the due date was, and his Dad actually welcomed me into the family, and that made all the difference in the world to me, I love my father in law for the kindness he showed me on my wedding day, and I can honestly say I'm proud to be a "Miller."

Our wedding was small, few people there, that's how we've always dreamed it, why spend money on one day when you have the rest of your lives to blow money? Spend it all in a day...I think not.

On August 31st, 2007 when most couples would be laughing about all the good times, eating cake, preparing for their new baby, and maybe going out to a nice dinner, I'll was alone with Baby Miller and my brothers wondering if I'd even get a phone call from my husband of one year, looking at the funny pictures in my wedding album, and talking to my mother about how much I miss him.

Also on August 31st I imagine a lot of people on one side Nathan's family had to "pay up," shouldn't bet on my husband and I...we're unpredictable, just for the record.

USO
What We Do:

The USO is perhaps most famous for bringing top flight performers from Bob Hope to Robin Williams to Kid Rock directly to the Front to entertain the troops. But we also provide essential services that support not only our GIs around the world, but also their families left behind at home.
-We hand out pre-paid phone cards so troops can call home for free.

-We give them care packages of hard-to find personal items.

-Our airport centers provide invaluable travel assistance.

-Our mobile canteens can travel virtually anywhere with snacks, games, and internet access.

Our front line centers in Iraq and Afghanistan offer a welcome respite from the stress of combat.

-USO Volunteers send troops off when they leave, support them along the way, and welcome them home when they return.

Our special programs benefit the children and families of soldiers overseas.

Great lens. I have to say that back in highschool I met someone whose parents split up because of the tough military life. It always saddened me to see how what great friends his parents were, but how the tough life was too much for them to handle staying together. Women, men, kids & entire families who endure the hardships of deployment and constant moves are to be admired. And our country should be just as thankful to the families who sacrifice so much for us all.
