What does this page have to do with Marines & their families?
Wondering why you were directed to this site? What can you learn from this site? There are lots of good links here to other various sites, support groups, stores, etc all that have been hunted down and hand picked by me, a Marine wife who survived two deployments and other Marine wives. If you find any links or stores that should be added here, please let me know by email. MillerR17@hotmail.com
Thanks, Abigail
How am I going to survive this deployment...
One of my blogs.
High school done, college check, career...on hold for Scarlett Adell Miller.I'm 18 years old. I've been married since August 31st, 2006. My husband recently got back from Iraq, again. I had our first child, Scarlett Adell Miller on November 21st, 2007 @ 9:40 am, without my husband there to hold my hand or cut the cord. Yes, it's sad, but don't feel sorry for me, because sacrifice is service too. I'm a Marine Wife.
I knew what marrying my high school sweetheart & best friend would entail, I knew he was a Marine, I knew there would be deployments, I didn't know there would be a baby, haha. God has funny ways of surprising people. In our first year of marriage so many unexpected things were been thrown our way, but I can honestly say I love my husband more and more every day, and it's been that way since I was 14 years old and I met him in the "light box."
I love my husband very much and wouldn't trade any of this heart ache in for anything else or anyone else. He is my hero, my fishing buddy, my chef, my dishwasher, my best friend, my foot rubber, my honey bunny, my companion, the father of my child, my Marine, and above all my husband.

Sign Your Marine Up For It!!! - Power Of Attorney Information
- WHY YOU NEED A POWER OF ATTORNEY
by Diane Alpeter
Is your name on all of your family accounts, your vehicle title and your insurance? If not, you will need a power of attorney (POA) while your spouse is deployed, otherwise you could find yourself powerless to conduct business transactions on behalf of your family.
A POA is a written legal document that gives an agent (you) the power to act for another person, known as the principle (your spouse).
If a business transaction requires a signature and if your name is not on the account, you will not be able to complete the transaction unless you have an appropriate POA.
"It is good to have a power of attorney even if you don't use it," said Lt. Cmdr. Mike Antonellis, Coast Guard staff judge advocate for operational law and command advice in the Atlantic area. "It takes about 15 minutes to get one with an appointment if the notary and witness are in the office."
HOW DO I GET A POA? WHICH ONE SHOULD I GET?
Contact any legal office of any military branch to make an appointment. Go to the legal office with your spouse. All branches of the military may use all branches of legal assistance. It's always a good idea to call ahead to make an appointment and to find out what is required for that office.
A general power of attorney lets the agent (you) carry on business for the principle (your spouse). Examples include writing checks, paying bills, borrowing money and signing contracts.
A special power of attorney, sometimes referred to as a limited power of attorney, allows the agent (you) to carry out a particular business transaction for the principle (your spouse). You will need it to cash government checks, conduct real estate transactions, sell a car registered in the principle's name, ship household goods or cash the service member's paycheck.
A nondurable power of attorney takes effect immediately. It remains in effect until it is revoked by the principle or until it expires. A nondurable power of attorney is often used for a specific transaction, such as a closing on the sale of residence or handling financial affairs.
A durable power of attorney enables the agent to make decisions for the principle if he or she is not mentally competent. This may be used immediately and is effective until it is revoked or until death. A durable power of attorney is often used as an advance directive, such as a living will.

How Did I End Up Married At 17?
Only In Virginia & The Marines
People often ask me how I ended up married at the "tender age" of 17. It's hard for some people to understand that marriage was inevitable for Nathan and I, it was only a matter of time and family approval.Nathan called me from Iraq one day, and just decided we should get married when he got back, "Sure, why not?" I said. I told him I didn't want a ring (I got one anyways), and I was sure my mother would sign the papers considering I graduated high school before I could legally drive a car and was soon to be finished with college and Nathan and I have been together forever and might as well already be married.
I told my mother, "I'm getting married when Nathan gets back, and you have to sign the papers." My mother never missed a beat, she said she would and we were both excited and anxiously waiting for Nathan to return from Iraq the first time.
I'm not very close to Nathan's family...as they didn't seem to like the fact Nathan & I lied about my age until he got ready to join the Marine Corps. I was 14, he was 17, yeah it's a big difference then...but is 50 and 53 so much different? Anyways, that started some hoopla against poor little Abigail, the devil girl who causes trouble, and for the record I never caused trouble...Nathan and I were just always in trouble, together, just like everything else.
We ended up giving Nathan's family 24 hour notice, or maybe a little less, that we were getting married. His mom "fell of the wagon", others ask me when the due date was, and his Dad actually welcomed me into the family, and that made all the difference in the world to me, I love my father in law for the kindness he showed me on my wedding day, and I can honestly say I'm proud to be a "Miller."
Our wedding was small, few people there, that's how we've always dreamed it, why spend money on one day when you have the rest of your lives to blow money? Spend it all in a day...I think not.
On August 31st, 2007 when most couples would be laughing about all the good times, eating cake, preparing for their new baby, and maybe going out to a nice dinner, I'll was alone with Baby Miller and my brothers wondering if I'd even get a phone call from my husband of one year, looking at the funny pictures in my wedding album, and talking to my mother about how much I miss him.
Also on August 31st I imagine a lot of people on one side Nathan's family had to "pay up," shouldn't bet on my husband and I...we're unpredictable, just for the record.

We like surprises everything about the past four and half years of our lives together has been a surprise, so why not another wonderful surprise?Baby Miller became Scarlett Adell Miller on November 21st, 2007. I love her very much and can't wait for her to meet her Daddy and for him to spoil her like he does me.
Saying Goodbye Pictures

WELCOME!! My name is Shelly (a proud Marine wife) & my husband and I have been together for 7 years (married for 5 years). Not knowing where to go or who to talk to can often leave you feeling confused and alone, especially when you're new to the military life. I can't even began to guess the number of times I needed a phone number, address, or website and didn't know where to go! So, I started this page for 2 reasons...1) To get you (the military wife) help and 2) To learn something new. This site originally started out for Miramar (California)based wives, but as you can see by looking around, it has morphed into a site for ALL military wives. I'm always looking for support, and information, so please feel free to let me know anything useful. And if you find a link that no longer works, please let me know ASAP. Thanks!!!

Great site. Spent 22 years with the Navy Medical Department and while I never earned the coveted FMF designation, I have nothting but respect for the Marines and their families. I spent a year off the coast of vietnam on the USS Sanctuary, a hospital ship) and have never forgotten the young men I cared for. Posted September 22, 2008 |

I dunno why but when I searched Squidoo for a Fat Loss for Idiots review , I was taken to this lens of yours and what great timing! I have a friend who's husband is a Marine and I'm sure she will be happy to read this! thanks for sharing, anyway and you have a very nice lens! 5 stars for it! Posted September 17, 2008 |
My fiance is station in Camp Pendleton, and I'm still living in Rhode Island. Keeping a relationship together when you're 3,000 miles apart is no easy task, but we knew what we were getting in to. I'm so afraid to move cross country and start new without my friends and family. My familiy means the world to me, but then again, so does Andee. It's tough, but hearing stories like the ones on this site really give me hope. I know that as long as we have each other, it will be OK. Thanks!
