Million Dollar Baby

This is one movie that brings up the most emotion in me, and it's one of the better ones that I have seen. Absolutely worth watching:)

Million Dollar Baby

Although its an old movie (2004), I only saw it recently for the first time and am so impressed by it that I decided to make a lens about it.

Boxing is something that really appeals to me ever since I saw the movie Undisputed years ago.
After that I bought myself a punching bag and box against it regularly, and Id love to take up the sport, the only thing holding me back is the fact that your face gets messed up and your brains turn into pulp.

Million Dollar Baby

Based on a true story, the movie follows a serious path of how a poor, unprivilledged girl with a healthy body, heart and big dreams goes from waiting tables to a world title champion prizefight.

In the end honesty and fair play most wins and is defintely the better way to go through life, but this movie is a prime example of how life can be so unjusticefull and unfair.

Maggie Fitzgerald is an incredibly good person with a pure heart who comes from a really bad start.

Her family consists of ungrateful, whining and negative hillbillies.

She is 31 years old and hardly has a dime to her name, and has been waiting tables most of her adult life to stay alive.

The only thing that she enjoys and keeps her in a great mood is boxing.
She trains at the gym every day, day after day, and is determined to become a title winning champion boxer!

Through her hard work and dedication and the luck of being trained by a superb trainer, she makes her way to the top, knocking out her opponents match after match.

During the process she manages to earn a lot of money and buys her mother a house so she can live there with the rest of her family and not be a hillbilly anymore. Of course her mom doesnt care, and just complains, and nags, and whines.

Maggie makes it to her first world champion titlefight within 2 years, and is up against a former german prositute "blue bill"
A strong opponent but one who doesnt play fair, who punches when the ref called a split to the corners, or when the ref isnt looking and the fight is supposed to be on hold, who elbows Maggie in the face, and who finally after being thrashed by Maggie, throws a punch when Maggie is facing the other way, knocks her down to land with her neck on the rest chair and Maggie becomes paralyzed for the rest of her life.

What kind of sick world is this where people who are so good, who have such a good heart, who work for what they want and play fair, that they end up suffering from other peoples weakness and foul play.

Give credit where credit is due!

Foul people like Blue Bill and Maggies mother in the movie should all be removed from this planet and sent to some sort of rehab until they become decent human beings.

Karma will eventually sort everything out and things happen for a reason, but the injustice of it all makes me angry.

Sorry...Just wanted to share my view of it all.:)

I really enjoyed the movie, and am adding it to my list of best movies ever!

Nice lens, a great film but not however the first film I saw about female boxing, that was 'Girl Fight' about amateur boxing and starring Michelle Rodriguez (Girl Fight's not a true story though).

About Million Dollar Baby is it just me or did the bell ring before Billie Blue Bear threw the punch that paralyzed Maggie. I know it doesn't really matter in light of what happens afterwards but technically she could have been disqualified and Maggie would have won the fight. (Max Schmeling won the world heavyweight title on a disqualification in 1930)
