A Biblical Perspective On Wealth

Catherine Ponder's Millionaires of Genesis offers a comprehensive review of prosperity from the point of view of the Old Testament. The Bible's laws of health, wealth, and happiness are as applicable today as they ever were. It's easy to see why this book is one of the original "self-help" guides. In examining how the Old Testament's greatest figures aquired wealth and contentment we see that they were subject to many obstacles just as we are today. They learned to prosper from these instances by utilizing their higher faculties and having absolute faith in God's presence and influence in their lives. Ponder's in-depth analysis of the good book's rich symbolism provides an interesting view of how the bible teaches us to become wealthy.

Why I Took Up This Study

As an online entrepeneur I am constantly searching for knowledge which will expand my creative mindset. A creative consciousness works with the forces of the universe rather than against the people around us. It's so easy to fall into the trap of competitive thought, believing that we're going up against millions of other people in the same business as ourselves. This thinking process has generated so much needless anxiety in my past that I have made my pursuit of a creative consciousness a daily activity.

I was raised Catholic but now consider myself simply a believer in the One Creative Force which rules the universe. Many religions have differing views of God but the common theme among all creeds is that absolute belief in this Force will create wonderful things in our lives. I continue to study religions and various schools of creative thought to get in closer touch with the Source from which everything proceeds.

The Millionaires of Genesis has expanded my consciouness tremendously. As I have practiced its affirmations daily my life has improved by leaps and bounds. Countless miracles have had their origin in the spoken word and those who have decided to tap into this secret power are often the happiest, healthiest, and wealthiest. I continue to receive many mental and physical gifts by studying this book and I feel privileged to share its secrets with you.

Our Higher Faculties Mold Our Lives

Ponder has illustrated how the bible beautifully depicts man's ability to shape his reality through the power of affirmations. We are introduced to the first millionaire, Adam, and learn how he developed a "hard-work consciousness" instead of a prosperity consciousness. We are reminded that rich ideas and not long hours of toil bring fortunes. We also encounter the biblical word for wealth which is "substance." Substance is the source of all visible things on earth.

Abraham is the next millionaire profiled. We come to learn that he was an aristocrat, well-schooled in prosperity principles. Abraham reached a creative level of prosperity where there is no competition for riches. He affirmed God as the source of his prosperity and was not affected by people or conditions. He also gained wealth through using the visualization faculty. Abraham pictured the good that he wanted in his mind and held that picture to the exclusion of the apparently barren land around him and was richly rewarded by Jehovah.

Melchizedek's exploits are then detailed. He was a high priest whom Abraham gave a fortune in tithes. He represents the third level of the mind that some have referred to as the superconscious or The Christ Mind. Some wise men over the course of history have developed this level of their mind to such an extent that they have been able to manifest directly from substance, as Christ did in the New Testament. We also learn of the prospering power of tithing in giving one tenth of our income to a source of spiritual support.

Ishmael teaches us that even though we may be a minority in terms of our politics, race, or religion, we are a neccessary part of the whole and can achieve as high a station in life as anybody. Ishmael's name means "who God understands", and this shows that independent of our background or lifestyle God will always hear us and be there for us if we are willing to go to Him.

Issac was a man who prospered by practicing joy and peace. A peaceful state of mind brings about physical healing. In addition we learn how observing and appreciating beautiful environments can bring wealth into our lives.

The persistence of Jacob was the prime factor in his wealth building. For years he disciplined himself in practicing a success consciousness and was eventually bountifully rewarded. It is easy to give up when appearances are contrary to the life which we imagine for ourselves, but those who stick it out and hold their vision will get exactly what they visualize.

Jacob's success convenant with God teaches us that we must be specific in what we are ask of Him. Secondly we must tell Him what we will give Him in return. We also see from Jacob that we may encounter some apparent failures along the way, but these are only preparing us for our destined success. Each delay of our good offers a valuable experience to learn and hence profit from.

Joseph was the bible's first billionaire. He achieved this great level of wealth by appreciating all the wealth around him and by visualizing his good using his imagination. He saw vast wealth around him with his physical eyes and also saw prosperity for himself with his mind's eye.

We finally meet the first millionairess Ruth who demonstrated to us that there is always hope. No matter what tragedy has occurred in our lives we must see that life consists of cycles and that great things will come back into our life in a different form.

The Millionaires of Genesis provides a library of positive affirmations. The amazing results of those who have practiced these statements daily are also chronicled. Independent of our religious background, the "faith" factor of this book provides an inspiration and one knows that an uplifted state of mind always prospers.

Adam's Hard Work Consciousness

Start With Mental Work Then Follow With Physical Work

The hard work consciousness which Adam fell into is an all too common occurrence among the general public today. We are told that to get ahead in life we need to work harder than the next person out there. Maximum time and effort is stressed in any endeavor, leading to 80 hour work weeks, stress, anxiety, and general burnout. This is because people are not aware of the wealth which we are given in the form of our rich mind. We focus on how to get rich when we already have all that we need to become rich.

We have received a perfect mental toolset from God to receive anything we want in life without having to overwork ourselves physically. Effort does have to be made to hone these tools, and the truth is that most people would rather not make this effort. Consecutive thought is the hardest work in the world. Even though physical toil is taxing on the body, it is relatively easy compared to real mental work, otherwise known as thinking. If this is doubted, try sitting quietly for even 5 minutes without having your thoughts running ahead to 100 different things. Even if one can quiet their mind they are most likely hit with a barrage of skeptical thought when trying to discuss the prosperity mindset to most people, and the mind is once again agitated. We have been endowed with the precious gift of controlling out thoughts and directing them to whatever end we'd like to achieve and so few people cultivate this ability.

As one puts in the time and effort each day they will begin to see that the mind can be strengthened just as the body is conditioned. Realizing any one of Ponder's powerful affirmations can entirely change a life. It takes constant mental effort, but the results are amazing. The work done in the physical world is finally viewed as only one part of the equation of receiving what we want. The mental aspect of attractive thought is seen as being as important as physical activity, and the physical workload can be lessened dramatically. With this realization, money comes into our lives with less and less physical effort.

Abraham Saw and Believed In What He Could Not Touch

The Visualization Faculty

When is the last time you heard someone say, "I'll believe it when I see it." Most of us are taught to rely wholly on our physical senses. We've been told that dreams and fantasies are fleeting occurrences without any real potency or power. Abraham, however, subscribed to a different theory of dreams which was later so eloquently explained by another great Abraham, this one being Lincoln:

"To believe in what we see and touch is no belief at all, but to believe in the unseen is both a triumph and a blessing."

Abraham knew that our imagination has been given to us by God to shape our lives. The pictures which we build in our minds and the faith which we place behind them determine our ultimate course. It should be kept in mind that the visualization faculty must be used constructively. Abraham knew that this picturing power along with faith in a generous and loving God would bring him exactly what he wanted, so he kept his thoughts fixed on his 2 G's (good and God) and rejected all appearances around him. The news and your neighbors may be telling you how bad the economy is, but it's up to you to build an image of your greater good and know that God will bring it to you through people, events, and whatever channels He decides. You must concentrate on your image and reject all negative appearances in the physical world. Hold the picture consistently, back it with faith, and in time it will eventually "come to life" in your visible world.

Experience The Prospering Power Of Tithing

Give One Tenth To God

Tithing is a practice which dates all the way back to biblical times. Giving the first 1/10 to God can be seen as an offering of thanks as well as an offering of faith. We give thanks for all of the good which we have received and show faith for all of the good which we will receive. This act of thanks and faith can result in a 100 fold increase in out incomes, it says in the bible. Many people in dire straights continued to give to God through these rough times and have correspondingly received amazing levels of wealth. They've also kept their fortunes over time because their riches had a spiritual basis.

In simple terms, God is the source of everything. He is the one force behind all creation, so it makes perfect sense that we give back to this source financially. Where did our money come from in the first place?

This is a tough point with many people. There is widespread confusion between the source of all wealth and its channels. All activities in trade and commerce are merely channels. These would be everything from our jobs to investments to the lottery. Most people believe that their financial destiny is dependent on these channels rather than the source. Here is one particularly powerful affirmation that will help to spread the truth throughout your consciousness.

"I do not depend upon persons or conditions for my prosperity. God is the source of my supply, and God provides his own amazing channels of prosperity to me now."

Move Into Action Now!

Act On The Bible's Wisdom And Open Up Channels Of Wealth

As we study the prosperous ideas which the Bible teaches us we know that a much-neglected step in achieving wealth and happiness is to move into action. These concepts will produce amazing results in our lives only if we practice them on the physical plane. It's one thing to read about them and say that they make sense, and it's quite another thing to act upon them. In order to do this we need to open up channels through which we can receive our wealth.

I feel that cash gifting is as much in harmony with the ideals of the Bible than any other practice or business which I've encountered. The person who gives in good faith and expects great things to happen to them will receive wealth in all forms. I practiced in my life what Ponder has preached: visualization, affirmation, having faith in God, as well as the other topics discussed on this lens. The result is that my soul and bank account have both been blessed tremendously, and cash gifting provided the primary channel through which I've received these gifts.

Here are the 2 clubs which have brought me spiritual and material blessings:

We Are All Equal

Humanity Is A Chain With Each Person Being A Neccessary Link

Ishmael was known as the minority millionaire. The human race tends to label everyone based on appearance. We are judged on our race, financial class, culture, or religion. We tend to accentuate the differences between us instead of seeing the similarities among us. The truth is that we are all the same and a neccessary part of the whole.

We should see our differences as our uniqueness. The contrast between every human being on earth is simply God differentiating himself. Every single person has their own special function in this world, independent of how they look or how much money they have.

One's background has zero bearing on the success which they will achieve if they put their faith in what the bible teaches us about the equality of humanity. God plays no favorites; we each have an equal opportunity to obtain health, wealth, and happiness, contrary to what appearances may suggest. We all have been given mental faculties to receive whatever we want in life and even though each individual may come across different obstacles, if we analyze these to find the opportunities in them, they will be stepping stones to our goal.

Isaac Smiled His Way To A Fortune

Peace And Joy Can Bring Wealth In All Forms

In looking at some of the so-called successful people of the current day we see a very solemn lot. They often appear to be stern and rarely if ever smile or laugh. Running from one appointment to the next, they give off the "time is money" air about them. If there was ever a perfect example of someone who has aquired the art of earning a great amount of money but living a poor life, it would be these people. They don't realize that wealth arrives to the individual through many channels and they are blocking these channels with their downbeat mindset.

Isaac was prospered greatly because because he showed great joy and peace during his life. A positive mind like his attracts the good in everything, just as a negative mind will repel the good in all things. This is why Issac was rich in mind, body, and soul. The joyful state of mind is uplifting and even if a negative situation occurs it can only be viewed as a positive when one is in this vibration. The peaceful mind is non-resistant; it never dissipates its energy by fighting against any disagreeable circumstance. It simply accepts the situation and moves on to the next moment.

If we should come across a negative circumstance in life, dwell on Isaac's mindset and how it brought great riches to him in all forms. Remember that it's only a moment in time, not some type of mountain which many tend to build in their minds. Accept it for what it is, take the positive out of it, and move on to the next moment in your life and you will learn why Isaac became so prosperous.

Jacob Persisted Until He Got What He Wanted

Tough Times Mean That We Are Getting Closer To Our Goal

Persistence is the quality which will determine if we reach our goal. Those who are the most prosperous were tested through numerous trials and tribulations to ensure that they were worthy of their prosperity. There are no shortcuts in this process. We often see people who have arrived and envy their success but we what we don't see are the years of persistence which it took to get to that point.

One of the main causes of failure is lack of persistence. People simply give up on their dreams and ambitions when things don't seem to be working out. For some it's a day, a week, a month, a year, or 5 years. The select few stick with it until they have achieved their goals. These people have purpose: they know exactly why they were placed on earth and will work towards their goal until the end of their days, if neccessary.

The difficult situations which we encounter show that we are actually getting closer to our goals because these are stages which we must pass on our road to success. The blessing of each test is that we can take something of value from it to the next stage. Rather than viewing obstacles negatively, look at them in a positive light, because in addition to being teaching tools they also demonstrate that we are getting closer to our greater good.

Get Specific In Setting Goals

Jacob Set A Definite Success Covenant With God

If we ask 9 out of 10 people what they want most in life we will get vague answers. A fair number will mention generalities or perhaps a fleeting wish but only a select few are very clear in their desires. This is the cause for most people wandering through life without purpose.

In order to constantly be working towards something in life we must have a distinct picture of it in our minds. Our goals in life, be they monetary or otherwise, will appear to us in response to definite demands. God, or The Creator of everything which comes into our life, does not respond to vagueness in our thought. Our goal in life is like a mental compass; if we hold the picture of it in our mind we will stay on the proper path to it. The moment we release the image or forget about it we run the risk of sailing off course into rough waters.

To remedy this make sure to keep symbols of your goals around you. If you desire a new house, keep a spare key in front of you all day long. Place it right by your workstation, and during down time hold it and see your future home. When your mental compass is not as strong this symbol will help to keep you on track to your goal.

Mental And Physical Effort Will Lead To Wealth

Joseph Saw Wealth Both On The Physical Plane And In His Mind

There is a definite equation to wealth that the super wealthy have learned very well. We read about their visions of things which hadn't been done before; they had dreams which only they dared to dream. In addition to exerting physical effort while working with people, they knew that they must expend mental effort to hold grand visions of the good that they wanted in their lives. It is equally as important to see the great things that we want in our minds than it is to work towards to these things.

There is a general feeling that physical effort or what is known as good old fashioned hard work will get us want we want in life but keep in mind the two-pronged approach which the most wealthy take. They bring the good things which they want to themselves more quickly by envisioning them while working towards them. Certainly hard work alone can bring great things but if we continually hold images of the current physical conditions around us we will greatly delay the good that we want. We will receive these things more quickly as we see them more frequently in our mind's eye. Take the time to picture these things and practice holding these images throughout the course of the day and this combination of thought and action will accelerate our good immeasurably.

Ruth Had Hope

No Matter How Bad Things Seem, Good Is On The Way

Most everybody has encountered some form of tragedy in their lives. We've lost loved ones, have encountered crippling mental depressions, or have endured various forms of hardship at one point or another. Those who have gone on to accomplish amazing things have held onto hope in the face of these devestating events.

We must see that life consists of cycles. For every pain which we live through, pleasure is on the way. Nature is cyclical and our lives mirror nature. God sometimes allows these deep sorrows so we can eventually go on to experience joyful lives.

These things are true only for a person who is hopeful. Always hold onto hope because it if your life-preserver in times of trial and tribulation.

Our darkest hours will one day lead to our most joyous years.
