Mind Maps for Children: 6 Tips Organizing the Young Mind

There is no doubt about the benefits of adults using mind mapping techniques in order to remember information and organize activities and events on a daily basis. However, many adults are frequently using mind mapping techniques to teach their children to do the same with their projects and presentations.

How to Teach Kids the Techniques of Mind Mapping

1. The thing about teaching your kids the tricks of mind mapping is that you have to allow them to retain their flow of thoughts and use these techniques in their unique ways to organize information and data.

2. In general, kids use images as connectors between pieces of information in order to form a chain of comprehensible representations that help them to express the information they have gathered through ways of mind mapping.

3. All you need to do is allow them to use this image representation technique and modify them accordingly with the mind mapping ways. Children have an uncanny ability to retain large volumes of information by relating them to pictorial representations. Mind mapping is no different from this.

4. First find out if your child really needs to learn the ability to use mind mapping techniques in order to assimilate and represent information for his or her activities in school or elsewhere.

5. Don't try to impose the ways of your learning on them since their cognitive abilities and processes are different from that of adults.

6. Since children depend on images more than words compared to adults, they will probably automatically use pictures more than words to represent the information they are working with in their projects. All you need to do is initiate them into indulging in these assimilation techniques through mind mapping.

Briefing them on techniques of mind mapping aka task tracking software may be a good idea while teaching them; however, you will only know how much they have absorbed this technique when they make such projects and presentations. Check if they have included all the information and used enough images to appropriately represent them.

Using colors, images and least number of words to give the presentation are signs of mind mapping techniques learned by kids. Yeah, youth!
