Marketing creates ethical dilemmas as knowledge increases about the psychological tactics which can influence the subconscious and unconscious minds.
One tactic is simple repetition. The more you hear a message, the more you begin to accept that message as true.
I am no psychologist but I understand that there are subtle differences between the subconscious and unconscious although they are often used interchangeably.
Basically there are two issues with Mind Control Marketing tactics:
Is it right to influence people to act in their own best interests so that they want to take the action?
Are people better prepared to respond to the misuses of Mind Control Marketing by knowing and understanding the tactics?
Why Great Businesses Need To Use Persuasion Techniques and Mind Control Marketing
Those that have a poor product or service can sell to the uninformed by duping them into believing that something is better than it is. The dishonest and unethical traders will use the persuasion techniques to manipulate people into buying in preference to much better products.
That's the real world. While it would be nice to think that the world is fair, safe and honest, in reality it isn't.
As an honest provider of a good - or great - product or service, you have an obligation to learn and use the tools of persuasion because if you don't:
1 - you lose sales that should receive in a right and proper world.
2 - you allow the low quality providers and scam artists to win, reinforcing the incentives available to them to manipulate and encourage more to go down that path.
3 - your potential customer who you have lost are tricked into buying products and services that are not right for them. It may be a lesson that warns them to be more careful next time or it could taint the entire trade - think of the typical stereotype of a used car salesman.
You could take the moral high ground and refuse to use the persuasion techniques and mind control marketing tactics but it doesn't make the world a better place.
Or you can use the techniques to help promote your good products ethically and honestly and help protect your business and your potential customers while slapping down the low quality providers.

I read it and it is powerful but chilling stuff as you can see how easily people - and especially desperate or lonely people - can be manipulated.
Cults may use these mind control techniques for recruiting and keeping members (an abusive form of marketing) but it is too far for any ethical commercial organisation.
Mind Control Marketing Review
I see it as compulsory reading - and any marketing book with so many Amazon reviews deserves attention.
Mind Control Marketing is written in an easy to read style and is very interesting. The key lessons are drawn out into action points and the important messages are reinforced through cartoons.
While mind control - and manipulation using mind control - is no joking matter, the use of humour and the repetition of the key messages increases the impact of the book.
If you have a degree is psychology or have studied psychology and behaviour, perhaps like me in your MBA, then there is little new in Mind Control Marketing but I hadn't transferred "employee behaviour control techniques" over in my mind to "customer behaviour control techniques" and for that reason alone, it is worth reading.
If you don't have any psychology studies, then Mind Control Marketing is illuminating as you understand why certain techniques have the impact they have and it will make you reassess both your marketing and purchasing decisions.
