The Toll Stress Takes on Your Body - Reduce Stress Now!

Stress is an inevitable part of life. From the day we were born when we came screaming into the world because we were being taken from a nice, warm womb to the present - where we experience varying levels of stress on a regular basis.

We experience stress in both positive situations - like when we walk across stage to receive our diploma or walk down the aisle to our loved one on our wedding day - and in negative ones such as the stress of finding out your child has brain cancer or that you are being let go due to down sizing.

In both extremes, your body secretes varying amounts of hormones such as adrenaline and spurts of cortisol in response to the stress. In the case of short-term happy stress, the body deals with it and life goes on. During happy times our body sends out the happy hormones, endorphins, which act to counter balance the negative effects of the other hormones.

It's the negative stresses that continue to eat at us and wear down our bodies. Regular high levels of adrenaline leave you tired and worn out, which leads to decreased immune function.

This leads us to increased sick time and even chronic disease. To top that off, the excess build up of cortisol in your bloodstream has several effects - but most notably that of storing fat on your hips and belly!

In the end, you will have to come to terms with the stress that comes into your life and deal with it properly in order to stave off its negative effects.

What Would Life Be Like With No Stress?

Our first thought is, yes, take away all the stress - who needs it?! We think that if all of our problems would vanish, it would be like winning the lottery. But let's take a few minutes to explore what life would be like without challenges.

Imagine a life where you get up with no alarm clock. You go the refrigerator and it's full of the food you like. The sun is warm. You go outside and there are no bees or mosquitoes. The grass is perfect and never needs mowing - there are no weeds. The mail never has bad news. Your children arrive and happily give you a kiss before they go off and play cheerfully. Money lands in your bank account mysteriously. Sounds like Heaven on Earth, right?

The examples could go on, but do you notice something missing here? The challenge of disappointment and trouble is missing. How we handle trials and tribulation are what make us who we are. It's how we deal with the stresses of life that give us muscle to live life and give us character.

Think of those people you admire most - your heroes. Were they men and women who sat around with everything handed to them on a silver platter - never facing a challenge on their own?

No, the men and women we admire are those who learned to handle stress and rose above their circumstances. When the money ran out, they found a way to earn more. When the doctor said, "You have early signs of cancer," they rallied and took positive steps to deal with it.

No, realistically speaking what we really want is to learn to effectively deal with stress as it comes along, so we can be a better person because of it. Even the rich, carefree lives aren't what they appear once you dig into the details. Everyone has stress, so you must learn to manage it properly.

An oversized volume (making it much easier to read), this book contains not one, but MANY different ways of reducing your stress- that's why its called a workbook. And this is precisely what makes this book such a gem- there's virtually something in it for everyone. If you don't like one technique, no problem, just go to the next chapter and try another one until you find one that suits you."

7 Ways to Live a Stress Free Life Today!

The main problem we face is how to deal with the negative stress in our life. Here are 7 ways to eliminate stress from your life quickly:

#1 - Just say no! Much of the stress we have in our lives is due to too many obligations. Learn to say no when the committee votes to make you in charge of the Christmas party or whatever task it is that would tip the scales from just enough on your plate to too much to handle!

#2 - Cut out whatever is adding stress to your life that you can outsource. Stop whatever it is that you do that irritates you that you know someone else can do instead. If house cleaning is the major source of stress in your life because you work a fulltime job during the day, then consider splurging on a housekeeping service 2-3 days a week.

#3 - Let go of all sour relationships, if possible. Some relationships are bad news from the start. The other person drains your energy. If there is no moral obligation, cut that person out of your life.

#4 - Add exercise! The act of using your muscles and breathing deeply can effectively "burn off" those stress hormones so that they don't have a chance to build up and harm you.

#5 - Watch funny movies. Play games. Make love. All of these can have a very positive effect on your level of stress. It's a proven fact that laughter helps ill patients recover faster. Creating happy moments in your life on purpose helps release endorphins that overpower the cortisol in your body.

#6 - Leave your work at work. When you leave your office, learn to leave the concerns of your job behind. Don't bring home extra tasks to do when you should be enjoying your loved ones. That means the emotional baggage from work, too.

#7 - Learn to accept things as they are. Having a more accepting, content attitude can mean the difference between an anxious, stress-filled life and a more relaxed come-what-may, outlook on life.

People always look at me like I'm nuts when I suggest that "sour relationships" should be cut out of your life. I'm not talking about discarding people but you owe yourself such things in some circumstances. Nice lens!

Right now the primary source of stress is my divorce. I've gotten over the worst of finding my husband cheating. the chaos of those emotions has calmed down. I'm in reality - I am divorcing the love of my life and moving from my dream house. That kind of emotional stress will take a very long time to process. the practical stressors are: selling a house and buying a new one, driving 16 hours to make the move, setting up my business in a new location - many unknowns. Many details. I'm detail oriented and can sometimes over-do it and make myself crazy looking at the details for the zillionth time.

When my life is more normal, I sometimes find the question come to my mind: "what will I be musing about on my deathbed? Will I wish I had made more money? Or will I wish I had taken more walks in the woods? Or taken an extra ballet class?" Whenever that comes to my mind, i stop what I'm doing, and go take a walk.

The financial and emotional stresses of single parenthood and work-at-home-mom / entrepreneurship are the sources of much of my chronic stress, which has led to stress related migraines.

Thanks for offering sage advice and natural alternatives. I abhor drugs, so these are welcome! I've just started sleeping with the Solaris Blanket, too, and it reflects back my energy emissions, reviving and balancing my body while I sleep. (From same doctors as the soft laser on my lens.) Best sleep aid and stress reducer I know!

Caregiving for elderly parents has been a source of many stresses. Typical of caregiver stress, it brought on emotional stress, physical stress and health problems, lost work opportunity and resulting financial stress, relationship stresses ... to add to the myriad stresses of single parenthood and widowhood, residual executive stress effects, and more.

So I am no stranger to stress. I want to help you and others be mindful of stress reduction techniques. The best stress reduction methods will be shared here.
