Generally a seed is just a code that is used to create different worlds. When you begin a new world, it generates a random seed for you. Letting Minecraft generate a random seed for you, gives you access to all of the seeds. There is said to be 18 quintillion possible seeds to use. To put this in perspective, if you played 1,000 seeds a day it would take you 10,960 years to play all of them. If you have a world that you are currently playing and are curious as to what the seed is to share to your friends or the world, go into your Minecraft world and hit [F3].
