Mini CD-R Media
Information about this type of media. What its used for and where to find it.
What is a Mini CD-R
A Mini CD-R is basicly a smaller version of a regular CD-R. In comparison a regular CD-R holds about 700MB of data as the Mini CD-R can only hold about 193MB. Some digital camera's on the market today use the mini CD-R to store their pictures on. Even though a disc can hold up to 193MB, some cameras will format the disc out to a different size. Different Types of Surfaces
Mini CD-R are manufactured with 5 different surfaces.
This disc is completely blank on top except for a few numbers printed in the hub are.
2. White Inkjet Printable
The white inkjet mini CD-R are manufactured with a coating specially designed for CD-R inkjet printers. Because of the white background this is the disc to use if printing full color.
3. Silver Inkjet Printable
The same as the white inkjet surface only silver. These are best used when printing just a logo and some text on the disc.
4. White Thermal Printable
This disc has a white gloss look to it. It has a very smooth and silky feel to it. You can not print on this disc with an inkjet printer as the ink will roll off the disc and never dry. This must be printed with a Thermal Printer.

These disc's are the ones you will find in your retail stores. They will have silk screening on the top with usually a large logo and maybe some lines for you to write text in.

Drokyourock - I know that alot of the Sony Mavica cameras use the mini cd-r. as for the write speed, that would depend on what device you are using it in. If used in a computer burner then they can be burned at 32X.

I always wondered if the CD-R is similar to the way the CD-ROM is manufactured. I am not tech savvy enough to understand some of this stuff. But I'm trying to learn, and I feel like I'm starting to understand more about the CD-R and the different types. I find your article on Different Types of Surfaces very helpful!
