Are you an e-smoker? Then we need your help.

We are holding a survey into the smoking habits of smoker prior to taking up the electronic cigarette, as well as your experiences with common smoking problems such as smokers cough and sense of smell.

The results will be analysed by researchers at the Universtiy of Alberta in Canada.

One misconception people is that the famous e-cigarette is purely a quit smoking aid.

However, it is worth remembering that not all smokers want to stop. And in a free country, where smokers are no longer damaging other people's health by smoking in public places, why should they?

So back to the e-cigarette.

When we first started testing the e-cigarette, we handed it out to friends who smoked.

One enthusiast was my mate Rob. In fact, he can still be seen puffing away on his mini-cigarette now. However, he used not as an aid to giving up smoking - he continues to smoke his real cigarette.

He also enjoys being able to smoke in the pub and the office. But what he particularly likes is when someone comes up to him in one of these places and points out to him that he is not allowed to smoke. Which is when he points out that it is not a real cigarette, produces no smoke (that's vapour coming out of the end, not smoke) and is completely legal.

- cost: far cheaper than smoking real cigarettes in the UK
- looks, feels like and tastes like a real cigarette (even the end lights up)
