Original Miniature Paintings and ACEOs

I create miniature paintings called ACEOs of cats, birds, rabbits and fantasy beings. Each miniature painting is always and only 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches. I sell these miniature art gems from my Blog, and on Etsy. I also make high quality Archival prints of my miniature paintings which I sell through Bonanzle, ArtFire, and eBay. From my Gift Shop I sell the miniature art on porcelain Christmas ornaments , refrigerator magnets, ceramic art tiles, framed art, jewelry boxes, and other gifts items.

How I Make Miniature Art - ACEOs by Melody Lea Lamb

Some of my newest miniature paintings:

I have one original miniature painting going at all times (see it in progress from my blog)

Each miniature painting is lovingly created by the artist, (me!) and then sold from my blog at half price for a few days, then it goes for sale from Etsy. After the original sells, I create high quality prints through my art website, ArtFire, and Etsy. My customers have a choice of art that ranges in price from under $5.00 up to $300.00. So there is something for every art collector. ACEOs are affordable and so small you can carry your own art gallery in your wallet!
Here are some recent Original ACEOs:

"Mrs Lady Squirrel"
ACEO (2.5 " by 3.5"), India Ink, Colored Pencil, and a touch of White Acrylic.

Benefits Animal Dreams Feline Rescue (in memory of Leslie Smallridge).SOLD

I am extremely happy with this little piece for a few reasons, first that technically "Mrs. Lady Squirrel" was a success, but also that she represents a direction I am trying to head toward in my work. I am working toward a style which is both representational (a arty term for realistic) and fanciful. I want my viewers to really believe that they have encountered a magical world where little red squirrels where denim sunbonnets and smile knowingly about their secrets.

You can see a full slide show WIP (Work In Progress) here.

So, what the heck are ACEOs?

ACEOs - A Flourishing Art Form Born on eBay by Nino, eBay Staff Member

Inspired by the familiar baseball card format with sports collectibles, but in 2004, a new art form was born on eBay. A group of innovative artists created a variation of the traditional baseball card format called the Art Cards Editions and Original, or ACEOs for short. Almost two years later, ACEOs are flourishing. More and more people are collecting ACEOs; art supply stores are beginning to stock specialized materials that help artists create them. Perhaps most significantly, art critics are beginning to take notice of these small yet exquisite works of art

Art For Critters

This is an outstanding group of artists who donate a portion of their proceeds to animal charity.

I am a proud juried member (and now co-leader) of this fine group. A4C (Art for Critters) has been formed with the express purpose of connecting wildlife and animal artists with the Rescues and Organizations that provide sanctuary and aid to animals across the globe. I personally donated 10% of nearly ALL my original ACEOs in 2006 and 2007 to animal charities through A4C. To see more charity auctions by Art For Critters artists please search A4C on eBay!
