Warcraft Pro: Mining
Ranked #3,791 in Games, #159,842 overall
Overview, Tips & Tricks, and Ore Guide
Miners pound away in dark places, steep mountains, craggy ravines, and other spaces of immeasurable danger in search of the raw materials that they can use or sell.
Long aquainted with the Blacksmithing trade as well as engineering and jewelcrafting, there is a steep market for the wares that come out of these little rocks...
Profession: Mining
Hi-ho! Hi-ho! It's off to mine I go!
Mining 101
Between a rock and a hard space...

Mining is a very important profession in the game as it's materials feed three other major crafting professions: Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, and Engineering. Beyond the obvious market this brings about, mining can be fun, dangerous, and occasionally tedious.
It's pretty easy to get started, just find a trainer, buy a mining pick from any trade goods vendor and if you have some extra coin, go ahead and pick up a mining bag (not necessary, but really useful).
Mining is a gathering profession meaning that there is no real crafting going on, though you can smelt ore into bricks for easier selling to crafters. Ore in it's raw form can be prospected by jewelcrafters for gems as well.
Miners also gain a passive ability known as Toughness which increases the miner's stamina based on their skill level.
Making Money With Mining
Easy stuff if you know where to go...

Because of how many professions this feeds, it's easy to see that ore and bars are a great market and fluctuates appropriately to the supply and demand. It's well worth knowing what sells in order to get the most out of it.
The auction house is a great place to start getting to know the prices for metals on your server. You're also going to want to grab the Gatherer addon or equivalent to help track nodes for mining runs.
If you're serious about mining, procuring a mining bag is going to be necessary as soon as you can get one. They are extremely handy for organizing what you mine, but the bags can come in larger sizes than normal bags for less money.

- Prices for all these bits vary from time to time and server to server. Sometimes the raw ore sells for a LOT more than the bars, sometimes the bars go for more, so keep a contant eye on AH prices. Get your mining as high as you can as soon as you can, so you can get the iron, silver, amd mithril nodes in the lower level zones.
