Minolta Maxxum AF G-Series Lenses for Sony Alpha DSLR Cameras

Minolta Maxxum AF G-Series Lenses
One of the highs of a Sony Alpha photo enthusiast is to be the proud owner of 'G-series' lens. The G in Minolta Maxxum AF G-series lenses, for example: Minolta AF 85mm f/1.4 G (see image), stands for Gold and is applied to the lenses of the highest quality that Minolta produces as a marketing mark Minolta introduced at the same time as RS lenses.
True to their mark, these lenses are really sought after by Sony Alpha DSLR users as they are still available priced much lower than current equivalent Sony SAL lenses.
Unlike Sony, who finally started labeling lenses properly and G mark is engraved on the lens, Minolta's G-series lenses have never had G letter on the lens itself and is only identifiable by a small "gold" ring embedded as part of the trim on a lens.
Getting one through the internet, through auction site such as eBay, is game enough if you are willing to pay. All the best!
The AF G-series Lens
In it's description of the G-series lenses, Minolta wrote:
"G-series lenses are Minolta's high-performance class optics. They have the best specifications, feature special advanced technology, and offer the best image quality of all Minolta lenses. G-series lenses are designed to meet the high expectations of the most demanding professional. The quality of the image they produce is among the finest in the industry.
Each G-series lens incorporates one or more of the following features:
- circular aperture,
- double floating and floating-focusing systems,
- Internal focus,
- Anomalous Dispersion (AD) glass,
- aspheric elements,
- focus-hold buttons."
