About Minority Report

A summary...with no spoilers!

Released in the summer of 2002, Minority Report is set in the year 2054. Starring Tom Cruise as John Anderton, an agent of the Department of Precrime, the movie drops the audience in a distant future setting where criminals are pursued before they have the chance to commit a crime. Anderton's anti-crime unit gets its crime leads from three "precogs," humans with a collective ability to see future events with a small margin of error.

What happens, however, when the procogs do not share the same premonition? The result is a "minority report," as one of the three precogs see something differently. When Anderton himself is seen as committing a future crime, the true plot of the movie sets forth as he falls from cop to criminal, running from a relentless task force composed of his own former team, seeking out justice against him.

Minority Report is both a compelling sci-fi story and an intriguing vision of the future. It imagines a time where eye scanning identifies and tracks citizens everywhere, and where that same technology is used to present relevant advertising custom tailored to each person. It's a time where cars take passengers to a location without the need of their interaction, and firearms no longer use bullets. Tangible holographic interfaces have become the norm, and are seen in everything from computer manipulation to posters and displays. This film is a true must-own for any futurist, or anyone fascinated with what life would be like in the distant future.
