Information on the Famous Lighthouse off the Cohasset Coast, Minot's Ledge Light

Minot's Ledge Light has a storied past, and a definite mystique about it that draws visitors to gaze upon its famous 1-4-3 "I love you" light. The stone structure is firmly planted onto the rocks offshore, called Minot's Ledge. Originally built in 1860, the lighthouse standing today was preceded by another less sturdy iron pile light structure which toppled in a major storm in 1850, killing the two keepers. Today, the lighthouse is automated, and can be seen from several spots in Scituate and Cohasset, Massachusetts.

A tribute to Minot's Ledge Lighthouse, and the former keepers

A replica of the third order fresnal lens used on Minot's Ledge Lighthouse can be found on Government Island in Cohasset, MA. Directly on the horizon, you can spot the real Minot's Ledge Lighthouse. Ah, what is it about lighthouses which so finely capture our interest and imagination? They never cease to amaze me. I often thought that I might like to retire to a lighthouse.
