Miss Potter Movie Reviews
- Movie Review: Miss Potter by The Critical Movie Critics
Miss Potter "turned out to be a moving and beautifully told story of the beloved children's writer and illustrator, Beatrix Potter, a woman who created the timeless story of Peter Rabbit and who led a far more interesting life than most would believe. Her steadfastness and determination to publish her stories remains constant throughout the film without ever losing sight of her charming youthfulness."
"The delicate and precise camera work from director Chris Noonan capturing the stunning British scenery and the engaging tragic romance, coupled with the brilliant acting from Renée Zellweger sums up to a powerful story, that quite frankly, more people should know about."- New York Times Review of Miss Potter
"This much sweetness and light in a movie is all very well. But there's a reason that recipes for cake and cookies call for a pinch of salt. In "Miss Potter," there is only a grain or two - not enough to dilute the sugary overload. The film is the cinematic equivalent of a delicate English tea cake whose substance is buried under too many layers of icing." To a point, I agree with the New York Times thoughts, Mrs. Potter is a sweet movie, although I thoroughly enjoyed it.- Miss Potter - Movie Reviews for Parents
"...this is the story of Miss Potter -- not "The Tale of Peter Rabbit." While children may appreciate the movie's inclusion of some clever animation techniques that add a whimsical touch to Potter's drawings, the plot will most likely appeal to teens and adults who enjoy a tender romance. But most of all, for those who have always admired the artist's subtle drawings and her somewhat unusual children's stories, this film offers a fitting tribute to Beatrix and her creatures."- Miss Potter Movie Review by The Movie Mom
"As delicate as the title character's watercolors, this gentle story about the author and illustrator of The Tale of Peter Rabbit is very winning...Some may dismiss the film as too twee and "Masterpiece Theatre"-ish. But those who come with a little patience and an open heart will find themselves moved by seeing Beatrix discover her strength and embrace the world. And those who think of her as just a painter of pretty pictures and a teller of pretty stories will find themselves inspired by her pioneering work on behalf of the environment."
Amazon Customer Reviews of Miss Potter
"The last part of the film, that centers on the beginning of the final chapter of Potter's life as a farmer in the Lake District, features some of the most stunning landscapes you can ever hope to see in a movie." ~ Robert Moore
"I saw Miss Potter at the cinema and thoroughly enjoyed it. With beautiful scenery, moments to laugh out loud, times to cry, and a few delightful animations, Miss Potter" takes us through the joys and frustrations of being a talented female author and illustrator in London at the turn of the century but being unrecognized as such by her own mother. I would heartily recommend this film!" ~ J. Winstead
"...there is something so delightfully sweet and moving about "Miss Potter" it should NOT be missed! You will cry at the love and loss in this movie. It was definitely a tear-jerker at times, but ultimately provided a very satisfying ending." ~ F. Faulkner
What is Miss Potter Rated?
Is it appropriate for my children?
Miss Potter is rated PG for brief mild language. Other issues to think about include mild references to alcohol abuse and respectibility as well as a sad but unseen death. The Movie Mom praises this movie for "its portrayal of early concerns about class and gender equality and the environment." She also recommends this movie for most children above Grade 4.
Some parts, such as the animation of the characters in this movie, are indeed magical and might appeal to younger children but they are fleeting. This is not the story of Peter Rabbit but rather the story of Beatrix Potter, which means that it would probably be more appealing to teens and adults who enjoy historical romance movies.
