Spring at Missouri Botanical Garden

Spring is a Beautiful Time at Missouri Botanical Garden

The flowers of spring add a special touch to Missouri Botanical Gardens. The flower beds are colored with the beautiful sights of Irises, Tulips and Azaleas.

On a beautiful spring afternoon, my friend and I gathered our cameras and took a drive to south St. Louis to visit the botanical garden. It is a wonderful place to visit that has been a part of St. Louis for over 150 years. The garden has 79 acres of plants and flowers and along with being a wonderful place to visit, it is a center for botanical research and education.

In this lens we will be exploring just a small portion of the garden to highlight the beautiful spring flowers that were in bloom during my visit.

I hope you enjoy this photographic tour of a beautiful spot in our city.

Tulip Time at the Garden

purple tulip

It was nearing the end of tulip time when we visited the garden in late April. We could see where many of the tulips were past their prime. There were a few varieties that were in full bloom and I thought this purple ruffled tulip was particularly interesting.

Irises

Iris Beds

The irises were in full bloom at the garden and provided a wonderful photographic opportunity. I took hundreds of photos of the many different varieties of irises. It was certainly a photographers delight.

Irises at the Garden

beautiful stately flowers

These photos are Irises that were blooming in the spring of 2012. I photographed the Irises in the shade at about 9:00 one morning to try to get them in a good light. If you click on a photo it will show you the name of that Iris. I think the names of each of the flowers are interesting.

Art in the Garden

Garden has Beautiful Art

In amongst the beautiful flowers you will find pieces of art scattered throughout the garden. This pond holds three sculptures and some beautiful glass work. The glass sculptures are by the artist Dale Chihuly.

Azaleas

Azaleas and Statue

gift from Zimbabwe

These brightly colored azaleas make a wonderful background for this sculpture presented to the People of the United States and The Missouri Botanical Gardens by the artists of Zimbabwe and the Chapungu Sculpture Park. The plaque in front of it reads "In Memory of those who perished September 11, 2001.".
