My Ghostly Tale
I have always been able to sense ghosts and spirits. I don't see them with my eyes; it is more like a mental image or picture in my mind. Sometimes the image comes with knowledge of how they might have died. These are mostly just feelings or things that I sense, but I have often wandered if the ghosts are trying to communicate with me.
Passing a cemetery sometimes causes me to start shivering. It is like feeling creepy-crawlies up and down my arms and legs. I have had this happen when I did not even know there was a cemetery close by. When it is the strongest, I have a feeling of something sitting on my chest and I find it hard to draw a breath.
Sometimes, I will walk into a house or a room, and I start seeing a mental image of a person. In my grandmother's house, I have very clear images of at least one of the ghosts there. My grandparents bought their house when I was two months old, and I have spent a lot of time there over the years. I even lived there for two years. In this house, there are two separate ghosts. In the original part of the house, there is a spirit of a little girl and she has been there as long as I can remember. She is a "good" spirit and I believe that she has tried to protect me over the years. In the newer addition to the house, there is also a spirit there that is not so good. I would not say it is evil, but I think it is definitely malevolent. I have never been able to "see" this ghost, but it has played a few tricks in it's time. 
Before you start thinking that I am crazy, let me tell you of two incidents that let me know that what I am seeing is real. When I was a girl of about ten, my parents moved us into a little house in Edmond, Oklahoma. The garage had been converted into a master bedroom and I absolutely hated being in there alone. One of my chores was laundry, and whenever I went into my parent's room to put away their clothes, I dreaded the closet. Every time that I got close to it, I would get the mental image of a large bald man jumping out of the closet to grab me. I was so scared that I would put the laundry away as fast as I could and hightail it out of there.
Now, I never told my parents or my brother about what I sensed until just a few of years ago. Talking separately to my dad and my brother, I found out that they saw the exact same image in their minds as well.
As if that wasn't creepy enough, I had a similar experience with my husband about five years ago. We were traveling very late one night and had planned to spend the night at my cousin's house in Oilton, Oklahoma before heading home the next day. Somehow, we miscalculated the trip and it was 1:00 am before we arrived. My cousin and her husband were apparently already asleep by the time that we got there, so we decided we would try to sleep in our car on the backside of Stroud Lake.
The whole time that I was trying to sleep, I kept imagining a man reaching through the window to grab my throat. I saw him with long stringy hair, wearing a pair of jeans with a denim jacket and boots. The image was so strong that I was not even able to relax, let alone sleep. After about 30 minutes, my husband (who I thought had been asleep) asked me if I was sure if I wanted to sleep here. I immediately jumped up, started the car, and we took off.
We traveled home and by the time we got there, we were dead tired, but hyped up enough that we could not sleep. We talked for a while about different things, and the talk turned to the lake. My husband started saying that he wasn't able to sleep because he kept seeing a man break though the glass and choking him. I was so shocked that I started shaking. He asked me what was wrong. Instead of answering, I asked him what the man was wearing. When he said that the man was wearing jeans and a jacket with long dirty hair, I started trembling even more. I just could not believe he had seen almost the exact image that I had. When I told him what I had seen, he was shocked as well.

There are said to be sightings, sounds, and lights flickering on and off in the arena late at night from a former WWF wrestler named Owen Hart who died in 1999 by falling 78 feet (24 m) to his death from the ceiling of the arena . A toy museum is reportedly haunted, and a brown patch of grass where the previous owner had a heart attack and survived, has a shape of the owner and has been repeatedly replaced to no avail.Lemp Mansion
St. Louis, Missouri
The Lemp Mansion is said to be one of the most haunted buildings in the United States. Four members of the Lemp family killed themselves, three in the mansion. There are said to be apparition sightings, glasses flying off of the bar, pianos playing by themselves, etc. The mansion is now open as a restaurant and bed and breakfast.Source: Wikipedia
Drury University
This old institution first opened its doors on September 25, 1873, with thirty-nine pupils in attendance.
Beginning with a two-story brick structure at a cost of just $7,000 for classes, the campus occupied less than 1½ acres.
Next a frame building was built for the music department and in 1875 an elegant brick structure was opened called "Walter Fairbank's Hall" as a women's boarding house.
Twenty-five years later the 40-acre campus included Stone Chapel, the President's House and three academic buildings.
Today the 80-acre campus still includes the original site and much more, including a few phantom visitors according to its staff and students.
Old colleges often have many reports of hauntings, but this particular college has good reason as it was built upon a site which was once Indian burial grounds and later was in the midst of the Civil War.
In 1966 Smith Hall, a women's dormitory, was built in an area that used to be called home to several old Victorian houses. In one of these old vintage homes once lived a little girl who was caught in a fire when she wanted to retrieve her teddy bear. According to the stories, she continues to linger in the hall searching for her teddy bear. Many have witnessed the little girl, dressed in pink, and walking the halls. Others have reportedly taken pictures. A bit of a prankster, students have often returned to their rooms to find their locked doors standing wide open, drawers pulled out of dressers and a teddy bear sitting in the center of the room. Others report that if they have a teddy bear, it will often be moved during the night to appear at a different place in the room the next morning. One student tells a story of an unused telephone stored in a closet that would ring during the night with no source of power.
At Clara Thompson Hall, many students have reported that pianos seemingly play by themselves and doors are said to often close on their own. At the Wilhoit Theatre, many people have reported seeing flickering lights at night when no one is in the theatre.

During the Halloween season, haunted houses are held in this abandoned hospital. The hospital, however, appears to be truly haunted. It is said that strange noises may be heard coming from the second floor. One many reported having his dog with him. The dog got to the landing between the first and second floor and began whining and barking hysterically. Others have reported the sound of a rolling gurney on the second floor-the former surgery road.Carnegie Library
St. Joseph, Missouri
The Carnegie Library is supposedly haunted by the spirit of a former librarian. When nearing closing time, some people have reported hearing footsteps from an unknown entity, as well as someone saying "shhhhh". Some accounts even claim that books have moved from shelf to another shelf on their own.Lewis County Sheriff's Office
Monticello, Missouri
Many years when the upper level of this building was used a jail, an inmate drew a picture of a pentagon before hanging himself in the shower. Whenever this picture is painted over, the image returns. Other experiences relating to this incident are claims that security cameras have moved on their own and a cold feeling is felt when the ghost passes by. The Lemp Mansion
The Lemp Mansion in St Louis is said to be haunted by a number of spirits. This historic building was once the epicenter of family tragedy, as William Lemp and three of his five children committed suicide.
The Lemp Mansion history is basically a story of rags to riches and back to rags again. Add to this a family of unstable, eccentric individuals, and you have the makings for a real haunted house.
Without going through a history that can be found anywhere on the internet, the Lemps were a family who made their fortune brewing beer. Indeed, the Lemp brand was as well known in its heyday as Miller or Budweiser are today. Unfortunately, prohibition came along and eventually destroyed the brewery and the family. Four of the Lemps committed suicide during the rise and fall of the brewery - three of them doing it inside the house. William, the patriarch of the family shot himself in the present-day restaurant front dining room!
No reports of ghost sightings are recorded until the Lemp mansion was sold and turned into a boarding house. Apparently boarders that lived here complained often of strange noises, and of lights switching on and off and objects moving. The boarding house became locally known as haunted, hurting rentals and eventually becoming a factor in the failure of the boarding house. In 1977, the house was bought by the Pointer family, who went about carefully renovating it into a Bed & Breakfast and restaurant. During the renovation, workers complained of the feeling of being watched, losing tools inexplicably, and hearing disembodied voices.
Today, you can visit the Lemp Mansion and sleep in your choice of bedrooms belonging to the ill-fated Lemp family. Guests report a general "creepy feeling" in the house, along with voices from unidentified sources and doors locking and unlocking by themselves. One of the Lemps killed his dog when he suicided, and the disembodied sounds of a dog barking are frequent, as are reports of the piano playing by itself and of glasses at the bar levitating.
If you find yourself in the St. Louis area, especially for an overnight visit, the Lemp House is a must-see! Named one of the most haunted houses in America by Life Magazine in 1980, this is a great place to do an overnight in-depth investigation!

Angels and ChainsCarrollton, Missouri
This house is said to be the location of many poltergeist. There was even the sighting of an angel in this house once in 1987. Reportedly, the apparitions dragged chains across the floor and would rock in squeaky rocking chairs. It is alleged that the house is very renowned through out the town.Numerous
Boone Terre, Missouri
Many believers claim that this road is just plain evil. At a restaurant named 4-wind, Satanism is practiced, and people/ghosts have been seen to vanish into thin air. On a bridge named Black Tram, it is said that is a person parks their car at midnight and yells "Come and get me" three times, a car will appear and attempt to drive you off the road. There is also a ghostly couple who tries to flag down approaching cars, but when they come near, the couple vanishes. Going one direction on this road, a person may notice a side-road, Old Black Well Rd., but if they approach the road from the opposite direction, it will mysteriously be gone.Twin Towers
Belton, Missouri
At the air force base, there are two abandoned grain towers. Inside one of them, there are animal bones. Drawn across the walls are pentacles and Satanic crosses. It is said that one may hear the howling of hell hounds-the Devil's watch dogs. It is also reported that one may feel cold chills in the middle of summer and there is also an overwhelming feeling that someone is watching.Source: Real Haunted Houses
Devil's Promenade
Almost every night since 1866, a strange orange ball of light bounces along this road in an easterly direction.
As the light moves through the air, it leaves behind luminous traces of dancing sparks. The light has been known to enter cars and buses, but paradoxically, dodges people chasing it. Loud noises also make it disappear.
It has been called the Hornet Ghost Light, the Neosho Spook Light, and the Devil's Jack-O'-Lantern, but scientists who studied the phenomenon have never agreed about what causes it.
In 1946, a study by the Army Corps of Engineers concluded the phenomenon was "a mysterious light of unknown origin."
A 1983 investigation by the Ghost Research Society revealed the light is diamond-shaped, with a hollow center. Legend says it is the ghost of a pair of Quapaw Indian lovers, who committed suicide together. Others believe it is the lantern of a ghostly miner searching for his wife and children, who were abducted by Indians.
(Devil's Promenade is in the village of Hornet, 11 miles southwest of Joplin. The area is near the borders of Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. This tri-state region is known as the Spooksville Triangle. Follow I-44 west from Joplin. Just before the last exit at the Oklahoma border, turn south onto State Line Road. Devil's Promenade Road crosses State Line Road after about 4 miles. There is an abandoned Spooklight Museum at the site. From Neosho, follow Hwy 86 until it dead-ends before Hwy 43. Turn right and go 2 miles to the second road on the left. Turn left and go ¼ mile to Devil's Promenade. The light is visible from any point along a 2 mile stretch of the road here.)

- The Lemp Mansion is pretty creepy, my uncle got married there, i was the flower girl and my sister and cousin were bridesmaides and we got dressed in one of the bathrooms one the second floor and there was a rocking chair in there with us and all of the sudden it started to move very slowy and we all ran out of there. But it is a beautiflul place.

- I'd like to see the Devil's Promenade phenomenon. Several family members tell me there's an evil presence near our garage, and they take steps to keep it away. They're more sensitive to things spiritual than I am, althoughI do feel my grandmother and father near me at times.

- Nice. When my husband and I homesteaded in Missouri, there was a ghost that appeared in our backyard. I seen him leaning against a tree two or three times.
