Who is Pico?

My name is Pico, aka Miss Pico, aka Pico Pi.  I'm a cocker spaniel and a medical alert dog.  According to my veterinarian's best guess, I was born in about December 1999.  I might be older, but a girl is entitled to keep quiet about her age.   I celebrate my Bark Day on December 20th.  I was rescued from the Bonnie L Hayes Small Animal Shelter in Washington County, Oregon in June 2005 and have been working as a medical alert dog since October of 2005.

I'm a Dog Scout and have earned the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) and Pack Dog titles.  My hobbies include arranging rugs, getting pet, and commenting on human foibles.

Medic Alerting

What I Do

People are always wonder what a medic alert dog is and how I do what I do. It's pretty simple actually, Julie gets migraines and loses her peripheral vision with them if she doesn't take the migraine reversal medicine in time. Even though she can't tell in time, it's completely obvious to me when that is starting to happen, so I let her know and make her take the medicine. I also know how to go for help. I have also learned to recognize things that might trigger her migraines and help her avoid them. I also sit on Julie's feet when she's starting to get a migraine and pretend to be a hot foot bath (an alternative treatment for migraines and luckily my body temperature is perfect!) I have some other jobs too.

Some of My Favorite Places on the Web

My Dogster Page
This is one of the main places I keep in touch with my dog friends. Be sure to check out the video of me brushing my teeth!
Understanding Dog Body Language For A Well Behaved Dog
This is my partner's site where she explains dog body language to humans and thinks like how to explain to us not to pull on the leash without making it painful. She speaks dog pretty well for a human, so she's worth reading. Plus, I star in most of the video and photo examples!
Dog Scouts
Dog Scouts is lots of fun! Dog Scout Camp is about the most fun ever and I get really, really tired!
Stuffed With Fluff
Make your own stuffed animal kits! I love curling up with stuffed animals and these make cool noises too. Officially, Julie is a Stuffed with Fluff consultant, but it's really me! BTW, let me know if you'd like to be a Stuffed with Fluff consultant - it's hard to find a product that's more fun!
Mike the Cat
My cat brother, Mike - he's cool but don't tell him I said so!
Letterboxing.Org
I like letterboxing, I get to go sniff around for things!
My MySpace Page
Several of my human friends said I should get a MySpace page, so I did, but most of them haven't linked to me yet. I am friends with my pawther and the club where he works though! I could be your friend too...
Java site at BellaOnline.com
My partner Julie writes this site and the Middle Eastern Culture site. She does a good job, but Julie spends SO much time writing that we could spend on extra walks, so you should read them to make sure my sacrifice is worth it!

The nice people at Ruff Wear were very modest and didn't mention that in my picture I'm also wearing Ruff Wear boots and lying on a Ruff Wear pad. My pawther SAID he was going to get me a Ruff Wear collar and leash but I haven't seen it yet...
