Missy - My Mini Poodle
Ranked #7,766 in Pets & Animals, #195,662 overall
My baby needs help...
That's my mini poodle, Missy right there when she was only 2 months old. I bought this pup from someone as a Christmas gift for my mom. This picture was taken on December of 2010. We really love her and enjoyed her playfulness and energy. This is one crazy dog I tell you. But unfortunately, Missy is sick and suffering from Demodectic Mange. We didn't notice that until she's around 4 to 5 months old. Her hair started to shed, wounds started to appear everywhere from her snout down to her tail and she was always scratching and biting them. So we brought her to the vet and there she was diagnosed with Demodectic Mange or Demodicosis (at least that's what the vet said). Shots of Ivermectin were given every month and we were asked to bathe her using the Amitraz soap. So we followed everything the vet has said. She also prescribed Immunol to boost the immune system of Missy. We religiously followed everything the vet has told us up until now.
Update on Missy as of Dec. 28, 2011
Okay I think it is time to update this page after a month and three days because I have been receiving emails asking me how Missy is doing but I wanted it to be a month before I post updates on her so here you go. Here are pictures of Missy now:
Missy has no wounds now thank God. She does not itch anymore and by the heavens she is extremely active now. Her playful self is back. We clipped her hair as advised by the people who sent me emails. I asked the vet if her hair would still go back to normal and he said it is not a certainty. I am praying that her normal coat would come back though.
So what did I do? I listened to all the advice given! I placed Missy on raw diet and she started to become better. I also give her some vitamins and supplements to boost up her immune system. I also bathe her 2 to 3 times a week with soap that contains Gliricidia Sepium because it is really effective against the demodectic mites. That's it! Though I brought Missy to the vet, I stopped all the medications prescribed to her as they have all said that it will just cause further harm to Missy. I have never seen Missy improved with Ivermectin but plainly switching her diet caused a major improvement on Missy.

- My vet told me tat Rossi's furs might not grow back, but look at her now, all her furs grew back in. Give her more time. I do believe her coat can grow back in nicely. :) I will definitely look out for your updates.

How is Missy doing now?
UPDATE 11/25/2011:
We brought Missy to 2 different vets today. They both gave me a diagnosis of Demodectic Mange or Demodicosis. They both insisted on Imervectin shots and Amitraz which I did not let them do because all the advice I have received says that both of them will just do further harm on my dog. I did ask for a prescription for anti-itch meds as well as bought Immunol for immune system booster. Right now we're sticking with the advice from the people who have had the same experience with their dog as we currently are. We changed the diet to raw. So far Miss is doing good with it and loves it. So I will now be removing the poll for the second opinion as I have actually had a 3rd one. Please continue to support us with our fight for Missy. I will post pictures after a month to see if there are any improvements.
If you look at the picture above, she looks really cute and adorable. But now, she does not look so good. The following pictures are a bit sensitive. These pictures are as of 11/13/2011.
The scabs you see used to be really fresh wounds and always bleeds. But when I started to clothe Missy, she could not scratch nor bite the wounds anymore that is why it dried up. But the fresh wound there just came out of nowhere and there's no way that Missy could have caused it and even the vet could not explain why she gets fresh wounds from time to time. Though I have another dog named Mickey, a mini poodle too, but I'm a hundred percent positive that he will not hurt Missy.

Clothes I made for Missy
Anything for our baby...
With the combined powers of me, mom and my cousin, we were able to sew a couple of clothes for Missy that covers up her whole body. It looks like baby clothes because it covers up everything up to the tip of her legs. That way, Missy could not scratch her wounds and with her neck cone on, she could not bite them as well. When I started clothing her with this, some of her wounds started to heal and dry up. But for some reason, there are wounds that pop up from nowhere. The clothes are just made from old shirts that we have sewn together, here is what the dog clothes look like.

My rant about Missy's seller...
Upon the onset of Missy's condition, I asked the seller about this through Facebook. I asked her about it and she said that the dam or Missy's mom has somewhat a similar case as Missy's. Then when Missy got worse I asked her again, then she just said that her dog (the bitch) just has dandruff and it's nothing like Missy's condition. Obviously, there is something trying to be covered up here. I ignored it and focused on Missy instead. Then I tried to contact her by sending her a message on Facebook again but I never got a reply. So I stopped going after her because I figured it is going to be useless. My focus now, is Missy.
Missy's Current Diet (Updated as of 11/21/2011)
Missy, starting today, is on raw diet. We feed her raw chicken. At first we were hesitant but when we gave her the first piece it was already gone like the wind! She loves it! I will be observing her and see the progress after a month of straight raw feeding. I need your help...
for Missy
I have mentioned that my family are doing our best to relieve Missy of this disease. Though everything that we are doing for Missy is very costly. We are trying our best to have Missy cured though I know you would understand that there would be times that resources are running very low. We are not rich and we live from paycheck to paycheck which is actually just enough for us. But the extra expenses for Missy's condition eats up the money allotted for other things, thus causing imbalance in finances. We don't want to abandon Missy. We don't want to give up on her because she also has life. We may have been fooled by the seller but this is a challenge that we would need to face and with all honesty, I am stripped of pride, I am asking for your help. I am not asking for anything too much, just any amount that you are willing to give. We will totally appreciate it and Missy will be truly happy to live a normal dog life.
Accumulated funds: $56
UPDATE as of 11/18/2011
Someone was kind enough to make a donation of $50 from Singapore. So now I've accumulated enough funds to have Missy get checked on a different vet! Oh my God thank you for all the help specially to those 3 kind people who have donated. May God bless your kindness. Once I receive the funds from PayPal (which takes 2-4 business days) I will bring Missy to the vet ASAP. Again, thank you so much to those who offered their advice, prayers and those who donated.
I will keep you guys posted for the results!

- I have a little mini dachshund, with a skin condition, got worse as he gold older, scratches, bleeds, loses his hair, and worse is he's s'pose to be a long hair, went to several vets & even a homeopathic vet - nothing, finally vet referred us to a skin specialist, test came back atopic dermatitis, in meantime I use to put clothes on him (reluctantly) to stop scratching too & steroidal creme (also reluctantly), he is now on Atopica (NO side effects - good drug), his hair grew back (he has such long hair now), also use vet shampoo called Malaseb & food is hypoallergenic (we also went through the whole food allergy thing too), all combined has made him soooo much happier (he was depressed and unhappy before and not playing with any toys), he plays and his eyes are bright again. For him it's environmental (grass), no diet issues, we can go a step further with 50/50 results and try a series of desensitising injections, but he's good on the drugs for now, his dose is reduced now. So in my opinion, if you drop one thing out of your grocery bill and put that towards Missy's medication then she will be so much happier when she gets better and it will be so worth it. Good luck, I would donate but I've given things up for my little boy so I can afford his medicine, special food and shampoo etc, oh... and he doesn't have to wear stupid looking clothes any more either (converted stretch 'n' grows he was wearing) - good luck.

- Change her diet to Barf and give her 1ml of compressed coconut oil daily, and get a second opinion for heaven's sake!

- I wish I could donate right now, but I can't. All I can do is hope for you, and, as soon, as you can, get a second opinion. She may be having allergic reactions to something, and a different vet would be able to take a look. If you've been doing everything your vet told you to do, and she's not getting better, I say she has something else.
