Remembering Mr. Rogers

Fred McFeely Rogers, more commonly known as Mister Rogers was the host of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, a children TV show in production from 1968 to 2001.

I loved watching his show because it always made me feel good. Mr. Rogers was a kind, patient, and loving gentleman. Whenever I was feeling down, I watched him and I immediately felt better. There was something in his demeanor and the comforting words he said that conveyed the message that everything would be ok. All was well.

I loved seeing him change into a more casual attire (although not casual enough by my standard :) ) and feed the fish.

I loved going on a field trip with Mr. Rogers to an establishment in the neighborhood where we learned about many interesting things and met other kind folks.

Oh yes, of course, there was the magical red Trolley and the Neighborhood of Make Believe full of fascinating characters.

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood. Yes, indeed, every day is a beautiful day in this beautiful world we live in, and Mr. Rogers shared that beauty with so many children and adults alike. He was America's greatest neighbor.

The picture shown above is of Fred Rogers with President George W. Bush in the White House Blue Room before an early childhood education event in the East Room on April 3, 2002. Later in the same year he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contributions to children's education.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane. I loved Mr. Rogers when I was little. In school, my teachers used to put his program on so that we would watch while the teachers caught up on grading (like we didn't know that's what they were doing!). Thumbs up!
