Make Your Predictions About the Future of MMA and Upcoming Events
The MMA organization, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), has taken the world of combat sports by storm. Dana White is a savvy business man that has done an excellent job of marketing the UFC.
Mixed Martial Arts is slowly but surely becoming accepted as a mainstream competitive sport. Proof of this is the UFC successfully acquiring such big name sponsors as Bud Light and Burger King for its most recent fights.

MMA on Wikipedia
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques, from a mixture of martial arts traditions and non-traditions, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground. Such competitions allow martial artists of different backgrounds to compete.
The roots of mixed martial arts can be traced back to various mixed style contests that took place throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s. Modern MMA competition emerged in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championships, although professional MMA events had been held in Japan by Shooto starting back in 1989. Originally organized with the intention of finding the most effective martial arts for real unarmed combat situations, competitors were pitted against one another with minimal rules for safety. Later promoters adopted many additional rules aimed at increasing safety for competitors and to promote mainstream acceptance of the sport. The name mixed martial arts was coined by one of the developers of these rules, Jeff Blatnick, a former Greco-Roman wrestler and Olympic gold medalist. Following these changes, the sport has seen increased popularity with pay per view reach rivaling boxing and professional wrestling.

Oh, it's definitely on the way to being more popular than boxing. I doubt it'll ever make it to the Olympics, due to the nature of it. I like where it's headed.
jeffwend, at 8pm on October 13, 2008 predicts:
I believe MMA will become more popular than boxing, and more popular than the fake WWF.

Who's Your Pick for UFC 92 and Why?
The card for UFC 92 is so stacked that it really has 3 main events. I'm really excited about the Griffin/Evans fight. They are both young and at the top of their game. They also both keep improving with each fight. This one is a tough one to call.

The UFC has greatly increased the popularity of MMA and steadily ushering it into the spotlight as a mainstream sport. This is largely due to the Ultimate Fighter series on Spike TV. But, there are many other MMA companies.
