About the Lies, the Pitfalls and the Chances of starting a Home Based Business on the Internet

Work from home - be your own boss - in these times of mass redundancy this is a way out of social welfare or poverty for many, specially for older people, for stay-at-home Mothers / Fathers, or for disabled or otherwise home-tied people.

According to the pure theory, in Network Marketing one can start ones own business on a budget, and on the internet as well. - This does not only sound like a perfect match, it is. - Consider the keywords "Relationship Marketing", "Social Marketing" on the Web 2.0, "Networking Communities", "Social Networks".

Ann Sieg counts this among the biggest lies of Network Marketing: there was networking in the MLM Companies. (in spite of the name change) More on that later.

For me, the worst lie is: No Selling which is mostly used for recruiting and is supposed to suggest Relationship Marketing, Recommendation Marketing, did not include selling, because ... who likes selling?

Now what does it mean "starting a business" ? How is money "made" on the internet - or anywhere else in the world?

Money was invented to be exchanged against goods, and this is the only way until today Money moves from hand to hand - only there are more hands involved now and the ways are longer and more complicated. Money is made by selling something, or by helping someone else sell something.

Between the product creation and the sale Marketing must be done. Books and books, sites and sites of scientific explanations of the word "Marketing" come down to this simple definition: Marketing is everything that must be done to bring a product into the hands of a customer.

This includes of course advertising, information, recommendation, public relations, and customer service for repeated sales, further market research, and specially in Internet Marketing even product creation.

Fortunately, for starting a Home based Business we do not have to know each and every scientific background of marketing.

We only need to know: We must have something to sell, and how to use computer and Internet.

The harder part for most who want to make money on the Internet is indeed realizing they are about to start a business, which means thinking business-like - and forgetting "easy money making" for a while. There are no easy money making opportunities, they simply don't exist.

Realistic Business Opportunities do - the first thing an Online Marketer must learn is to evaluate them - by thinking business-like, which often just means using her/his sound brain and asking WHY do they offer this? What is in it for them? (This well known question the Marketer should always answer to the customer inside his mind while writing a salesletter, looked at from the other side.)

When you think about marketing, think Business, and you can't fail - at least you cannot lose money.

And considering ecomomy: The future of Sales lies on the Internet. The number People who shop online is steadily increasing it is indeed nothing shameful to sell to them, unless one intends to sell trash.

What do Affiliate Marketing and Network Marketing have in common?

For an Online Niche Marketer, there is not much difference...

Marketing only makes sense, when one has something to sell. If you don't have your own products, you must either create them, plus the whole background build-up needed to build an Internet Business, at least a shop (a salespage alone is not enough, as everyone knows who ever believed what I read so often still: You don't need a Website. - or you must find someone, who provides such a product and handles the customers further concerns.

You need to find an Affiliate Program that fits into your niche, and then maket the products on your Homepage or Blog as if it was your own. Joining Affiliate Programs is free, no need to mention that actually. Affiliate is not a regular job, but as far as you work for the mercheant, something similar, and who would pay for a job?

This is a pitfall which is no longer in use - (exept in some List Builders and Downline Builders and shady business "opportunities") . Not be mixed up with customers only affiliate programs, which are ok, sometimes better than resellrights.

What is the reason Affiliate Marketing exists? One person, with one lonely website, the mercheant, cannot sell too much ( nowaydays also not quickly enough before it is outdated ), so he needs help who does marketing for him.

While he could perhaps sell 10 eBooks a day at 50 Dollars, and earn 500 Dollars, 10 Affiliates he could sell 100 eBooks, earning 250 each, and 2500 for him, while could create the next product. - Easy. The mercheant saves lots of time and advertising money and earns well.

The same principle is behind Network Marketing - with the exeption, that a networker is a self-employed sales representative, meaning, he has to buy from the company what he wants to sell. - Like a shopkeeper buys from wholesale. And mostly a networker is required to buy the companies products for his own use as well.

Here lies the root for all those forms of abuse of the system which made Network Marketing almost unspeakable. Mind you: It not the theory of Multilevel Marketing that is bad, it is the policy of every single company wether successful Network Marketing is possible with that company or not. Nobody forces the Companies which do this to lie. (some reasons for the lies follow later.

And the Networkers? Mostly people are recruited who know nothing about business, who even believe they start a kind of job, where they learn what to as any newcomer in a normal company does, so they can be led to nonsense no halfways business minded person would do.

Pay three times as much for a simple company page as they would for their own site,
Buy advertising tools like flyers at ridiculous prices,
Fill their cellar or garage with products they cannot sell, because they get worthless marketing advice from some upliner who knows what he's doing even less.

This is exactly the opposite of the theory, which says "no storage, what comes in goes out immediately" - Storage Cost being one part of the costs other companies must plan in, but network companies - including the networkers save. All such saved plan-money makes earning of commissions possible.

(post to be edited into at least three more clear ones)

What actually is MLM ?

An actually ideal business model - destroyed by abuse and lies

"MLM" - this abbreviation nowadays is known as a synonym for all kinds of hypes, scams, and other dubious opportunities, settled in a legal grey zone or illegal. - Snowball System - Money Matrix - Randomizer - Chain Letters - have I forgotten something?

So it is M for Money - L for...? Love of money? Or does it stand for Make Lots of Money?

Obviously I got it right in the title of my lens, lol, and MLM stands for Multi Level Marketing.

Multi level - yes, this is the simple, logic, mystified structure of the matrix, which can be used or abused readily for any kind of organizing relations in large, growing groups.

Marketing is... advertising, referring - In contrast to the purcasing- and sales-department. Does someone remember the origin of this word? Sure, just nowadays it is not used originally anymore. Marketing has just a chicer connotation then advertising, and for buying and selling there are the direct words.

(so much for now, I'll finish this intro later and write a bit more about what MLM is, what it isn't, simply because some so called MLMs are missing the main factor - original Marketing)
