So what exactly are MLM scams?

Every time someone loses money in or fails at an MLM opportunity is that a scam? Or is it when a person in a network marketing company lies? Perhaps it's a bad company or bad plan?

According to Mirriam-Webster a scam is "a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation ". So a network marketing business that cheats or tricks those involved would be an MLM scam.

What can you do to protect yourself from MLM scams?

Network marketing or MLM is a very misunderstood industry and has had it's share of ups and downs. Some deserved and some not. To avoid MLM scams (or any type of business scam) you need to educate yourself about the business, the products and the industry involved. Basically, do your homework.

Most of the time folks only think MLM is a scam because they don't understand the basic concepts involved in network marketing. When you take the time to fully understand HOW MLM compensation plans work, what the actual network marketing distribution model really is you understand that in reality there are very few MLM scams out there.

NO! Unfortunately there are unscrupulous people in the world willing to take advantage of the unsuspecting. You'll need to do your due diligence and learn about the top network marketing companies out there.

Is MLM is for everyone?

NO! Network marketing is most definitely not for everyone. MLM programs are not easy. It takes real work and dedication to succeed at network marketing. With MLM you can make huge profits but only if you work at it and work hard.

Silly as it may sound, in the past the network marketing industry has not been very good at either "networking" or "marketing". They taught their distributors to go out and speak to everyone and anyone they could find about their network marketing business opportunity.

This led so some very silly stuff like "The 3 Food Rule" and trying to remember the name of every person you've ever known then trying to convince them to join your new MLM company.

Even the top MLM companies taught their distributors these ineffective methods. These unfortunate instructions tarnished MLM's reputation and have led many to believe network marketing scams are everywhere.

This couldn't be farther from the truth. If you look at a list MLM companies, I'm sure that 99.9% of them are solid and reputable.

So how do we change the perception that MLM scams are everywhere?

By teaching folks in top network marketing companies to use attraction marketing and a good internet marketing strategy.
