Our Life in Network Marketing Without Reading MLM Contracts

We started out in our first network marketing experience like most, our friends invited us to a big meeting. We saw many excited people being very successful in this company. We also saw people signing up like crazy. We went home but did not sleep! Could this be our answer? Our friends were successful and had money so...if they were doing it, this must be great. We were school teachers with not a lot of money, but we went for it anyway. We had to sell some things to have the money to come in at the highest level. We were off and running. We were so excited we were going to be rich, but we had no idea what to do next. We were told to invite all of our friends to the meeting later that week, so that's what we did. Many of our friends we invited seemed really excited and told us they would be there.

WOW, this is great. When we had the meeting none of our friends came. They told us they would, so why didn't they come?

We worked very hard but were not having success. Our friends who sponsored us quit coming to meetings. We were very coachable and hungry for change. Our company was having a convention and we were told, "To be successful, you must be there." We did not have the money, so we skipped some monthly bills and drove to New Orleans. We could not afford the fancy hotel, so we stayed across town at the Motel 6. The convention was very exciting, we saw people making hundreds of dollars per second! WOW, that was going to be us some day.

The one thing we received from this experience was our first mentor. She was incredible, she agreed to help us and she did. She was a machine. No's did not stop her. She would call leads from 8:00AM until 12:00AM six days a week. She bought leads and taught us to do the same. We could not afford to spend as much money a month as she did, but we spent all we could and started to see some success. The no's were hard but we did it anyway. This is the price for success! We saw our checks start to rise, so we were willing to get more no's. We were getting there, this really works!
Inventory of our networking skills at this point:
1. Talk to friends and family
2. Cold call leads-get lots of no's

A few months later the leaders went to Cozumel for a company sponsored event. We did not get to go but we knew we would be there next year because we were having success. It was great. Three days later our mentor called and told us to not send in any more checks or applications. They would talk to us when they got home. We were sick. What was going on? We soon found out that the company had been shut down, records seized and it was over.

Our lack of education had hit us for the first time. We did not know to read our mlm contract, the policies and procedures.

A company for the long haul needs 5 things:
Pillar 1 is the experience level of company management and integrity-we did not have this! Do you read your mlm contract?
Pillar 2 is timing in both the company and industry-we were a young company but the industry was good.
Pillar 3 is value priced quality products-we had great products but not value pricing.
Pillar 4 is the always important compensation plan that must pay the part time person-nonexistent
Pillar 5 is a system of rejection free marketing designed to help the part time person be successful- and there was certainly no system for us...we were on our own to figure it out.

Our mentor went to work and found us a great start-up company. We went back to work calling leads and getting friends on conference calls. We were also doing in-home meetings for our team. We took our team to a conference in Atlanta, GA and were on a roll!

This company was short lived, two down!

A company for the long haul needs five things. Remember:
Pillar 1 is experience level of company management and integrity-we did not have this again. Make sure to google the leaders of the company and please read you mlm contract!
Pillar 2 is timing in both the company and industry-again, we were a young company.
Pillar 3 is value priced quality products-we really didn't have a product.
Pillar 4 is a compensation plan that must pay the part time person-we did have this.
Pillar 5 is a system of rejection free marketing designed to help the part time person be successful- and there was certainly no system for us...we were on our own to figure it out.

Next our mentor decided to join two companies at once so surely one of them would work. So, we followed suit. Multiple streams of out go.

One company was a new concept on the internet and the other was a product company. The internet company was a large upfront investment, but we figured out how to get the money because we were going to get rich. These companies did not make it either. I decided MLM does not work and so did our mentor. Our mentor left the industry and to this day refuses to talk to any of the team. She is gone, never to reach her dreams. Why? Because she was not educated. She did not read our mlm contract and neather did we. She was more dedicated than most, she definitely worked harder than most and was more determined than most. She left feeling like a failure. Today I know it was not her fault! I feel sorry for her and how she must feel. I know she feels responsible for many people who spent money they did not have because they trusted her. She did not mislead people on purpose! She is a great person, she just was not educated in what to look for in a company.

I was very angry at this industry because it did not work! There had to be a way for us to be successful. If I had only known what to look for in a company it would have saved me so much heart ache. If I had only known to read my contract for my mlm company. So I started spending thousands of dollars we did not have on educational materials. I bought stuff on real estate and many other endeavors. I even borrowed money for this education as I was told to do. I was going deep in debt and ruined our credit because I was lied to! I believed these people would help me. I became very hurt and discouraged. I gave up on me-nothing worked, I was a failure.

Months later our preacher became involved in a company and invited us to dinner. This was a dinner meeting for his company. I was not interested, but my wife Melissa got excited. Remember that excited feeling? It was our preacher, so it must be good. We had a call on our answering machine from our preacher and the closers from the company two days later. A familiar voice saying, "They are not home. What do we do?" "Leave a message.", the closers said. Ha-Ha! Busted! Our preacher did not understand 3-4-5 way calling. We did join and got some good education from this company.

Skills learned:
1. Call friends and family
2. Call leads-cold call
3. 3 way calling
4. Recorded calls
5. Say less to more people, it's a numbers game
6. Sell the money
7. Importance of books and tapes-mentor through tapes
8. System to contact people-not rejection free
9. More no's get you closer to a yes

We did have a system in this company, so more people were being successful. It was a hard sell because of the upfront money. Many people could not afford to join this company. Melissa worked much harder than me in this company. My heart was not in it. I was having a hard time getting over my past and believing in me. I had seen so many people hurt in this industry, how could this be good? Sure, a few make it but most crash and burn! We had destroyed a lot of friends through this industry. People would run when they saw us coming. We were in the NFL Club (No Friends Left) because of this industry.

I meet a man at church who was a millionaire. He and his family lived the life I could only dream of. He understood money and I wanted to learn from him. I was not sleeping much because of money worries, so I looked up his address and went to see him. He lived in a huge house in a gated community. His whole family had new cars, and he vacationed around the world five months a year. I did not know what he did, but I wanted to be like him. He became my mentor and was very helpful. I asked him what he did for a living...big surprise, MLM! He was part owner of a company and very active in building from the field. He had a huge library of books and tapes. He let me know he would not sponsor me in his company unless I would change. Remember, I did not believe in me. I worked on my attitude because he said I could not be successful as I was. I listened to tapes and worked on me three months before he would sponsor me in his company. We built to the top level ever reached in this company and helped one of our front line leaders build to the same level. Life was great! We lived in our dream home in a gated community on 640 acres. We had deer and turkey in our back yard. We had horses, 4 wheelers and all the toys. We drove new vehicles paid for by our company.

We would spend summers on the lake on our house boat with a ski boat and SeaDoos. We built our business from the lake. We had finally reached our dreams, it was possible!

For 4 years both my wife and I worked from home together. Life was great - together we would drop our son off at school, go to breakfast or workout, talk to people and just do what we needed/wanted to do on our terms. Best boss we ever had!

Then, our company went belly-up. Left us high and dry. We lost it all...ALL! We were devastated. Mentoring For Free was then presented to us and everything changed. Reading SUCCESS IN 10 STEPS changed our outlook, our thinking, our lives! We
had hope - we were given directions on how to do mlm right! Michael Dlouhy taught us how to read our mlm contract and how to understand our policies and procedures.

Build it big, build it right, and build it to last. We are now building a legacy for our children and grandchildren. We're not building to just take care of us now, we are building for the future. Our driving desire is to help you not suffer the pitfalls we did - we want you to be successful THIS time!

Examples of Bad Contracts With Real Life Examples of Policies and Procedures

Do you read you mlm contract? Don't Let a Company Steal Your Dreams!

Why are you doing your business? Some people just want to make a small extra check every month. We want to build it big, build it once, and build it for our children and grand children. If this is your goal make sure you read your policies and procedures and understand your contract from your mlm company.

Here is a frightening clause straight out of an actual policies and procedures manual:"The company may terminate the status of any distributor at its sole discretion without cause by giving 30 days written notice."

Companies add clauses to their mlm contract which allow them to steal your downline and place them under other people.

You may think this will never happen to you. You may not believe you could build large enough for the company to ever bother you, but beware. When they enforce these policies and prodecures, it is with someone who has built a huge income and is posing a challenge to their profit. If company owners have integrity, the contract from the mlm company will let you know. If the policies and procedures is long and has fine print, turn and run!. If it's short and understandable, the owners probably have integrity.

We have made mistakes over the years, please don't make the same ones. Learn from our experience. Please read your mlm contract! Don't let anyone steal your dreams!

5 PILLARS BY MICHAEL DLOUHY

If Your Company Leadership Is Bad, You're a Goner!

Check your contract produced by you mlm company.

We have paid many times over for not understanding this! There must be integrity with company leadership or your story could be like ours. Please, please get educated. Don't use your blood sweat and tears for nothing. This is an article from my friend and mentor Michael Dlouhy.

If Your Company Leadership Is Bad, You're a Goner!
By Michael Dlouhy

Before you join a network marketing company, be sure to check the background of the company leadership to make sure they have MLM experience, with integrity. A simple Google search will often surprise you.

Not doing this background check is a common mistake, often fatal to your business. When the management team has built a downline themselves, they respect you. Companies are nothing without us - the reps. If they could sell their products themselves, they'd just put some magical ad on the internet somewhere and people would come to buy in droves.

But it does not happen.

Why? Because it takes you and me to build the relationships with the prospects, so they buy from us.

And how do you know if your company leadership has integrity? Simple. Read their company Policies & Procedures. Then you will know.

99.9% of the people you talk to want to build a business and then retire and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

But these companies have come in the backdoor like snakes in the night. They've changed their Policies & Procedures, adding phrases like "ongoing sales", "ongoing recruiting," "continuous", "regular meetings." You cannot retire - even though they've promoted early retirement as one of the main benefits of their business! It's amazing.

If you retire, they can legally terminate you!

Does that show any integrity? Does that show any respect for the reps who built the company, who brought the business to them? Absolutely not.

Your Policies & Procedures are THE contract between you & your company. They are written by the company lawyers. You'd better know for certain what YOUR P&Ps say.

We Appreciate You!

Doing Your Homework Before You Pay, Don't Get Scammed

What five attributes You should be Easily able to find in a Company

Don't spend money until you are educated. There are great companies out there and there are many scams out there ready to take your hard earned money. If we had known this information it would have saved us years of failure and frustration, not to mention lots of money!
This is an article written by our good friend and mentor Sarah Thompson.

What five attributes You should be Easily able to find in a Company
( These are the 5 Pillars to Success)
If You cannot EASILY find these five things "BEFORE" You plunk down your hard earned money,or invest Your time, then turn around and RUN away !!

Pillar 1. Company management experience with Integrity!
Do a Google search on the company owners. When you have a company that is built by someone who has also built a big downline they are "Distributor minded" The pay plan will be excellent and it will be easy to build a business with them. The care and support will also be in place. On the other hand, when you find a company that is built by a fortune 500 CEO who has never built a downline of their own, they are "company minded" people. Usually these companies do not last and the pay plan is not designed to pay the Distributor either well or in some cases at all.. The pay plan is designed to pay the company. Another necessary part of the review process is to take a good look at your Policies & Procedures, if the P&P's are short then there is low overhead (meaning the cost to run the company is minimal) and YOU, the Distributor will get paid more! Companies with high overhead always have long long Policies & Procedures, you will probably need a lawyer to read it for you! This company will not pay you well! Look for the companies products on Ebay, how much are they being sold for? A lot of people shop on Ebay and if they can buy those products cheaper they will!

Pillar 2. Timing in the company, Timing in the industry!

Approximately 92% of new companies don't last, they have growing pains and most don't recover. They have software problems most of the time. It is very important that a company own it's own software. If they do, they are able to perform the maintenance themselves and any up-grades or tweaks that they need. If they have bought software else where it is never that simple! It is always a better idea to join a company after it has been up and running smoothly for over 2 years!

Pillar 3. A remarkable product! It's necessary to have a product that retails well and ask yourself "Would I buy this product if there were no business opportunity involved?" Is there a Distributor discount on the product? Ask yourself this, "What's the real price of the product?" and "Doesn't this behavior show that this company only wants you to recruit new Distributors?" If you are recruiting, recruiting, recruiting you are just building a temporay paycheck! There is NO residual income in recruiting! Retail sales allow you to develop true residual income.
Pillars 4 & 5
The last two attirbutes You need to be able to Easily find
Agian Please remember You need to be able to EASILY find all five pillars.

Pillar 4. The Compensation Plan!
A good pay plan is a plan that pays the most, for the least amount of people, in your organization! The plan should pay on your total volume, not on a specific number of levels, or stop after a set depth. Does it pay part-timers? How much money do you make on a retail sale? 7% and under will kill you!! There is a simple formula that will show you exactly how many people you need in your organization to make your desired monthly income;

How much money do you make per person, per spot, and divide that by your desired monthly income! That simple formula will give you the exact amount of people you will need in your organization to make your money! Once you get your amount look at it and ask yourself," Is it possible for me to sponsor, teach and retain this many people?"

Know your Compensation Plan, what type is it? What are the pros and cons of this type compensation plan?

Pillar 5. Systems for Success! It is absolutely crucial to have a duplicatable system in place. People are NOT duplicatible! Systems are! The new Distributor will ask themselves, "Can I do this? and can you help me?" Network Marketing is NOT a sales business, it is a relationship business! People join people, they do NOT join companies!

That's it folks! As simple as that. Keep in mind that I am a mentor, if you are trying to find a real, legitimate company to join that you want to build BIG, Build once, and Build to pay your children's children! Contact me and I will help you! FREE of charge! or download my Success Ebook and educate yourself!
We Appreciate You!

Tony and Melissa - what an adventure you've had in this industry and what a gift you can give people to bypass the nightmare portion of that adventure... Its sad that you're original mentor was never given the gift of Mentoring For Free when she was still open - but don't give up on her - even if it's only so she realizes that it wasn't her fault - she deserves to know that !!!
