"If My Product's So Great, How Come I Can't Sell It?" by Kim Klaver
Ranked #41,547 in Business, #404,594 overall
I know of at least five reasons people ask this depressing question:
1. No one told them about the numbers.
2. They've learned a language that isn't spoken by consumers.
3. They're not selling it because they love it madly themselves, so they can't tell a good story about how it's affected their lives.
4. They forget that their product requires a bit of introduction and time to try it. We're not selling Tide or something else people know about.
5. No one told them they have to practice lots to get good at talking to and with people.
Four Agreements for Marketers
The words you use tell the consumer which one you are...Regular loyal customers for your thing are still there in great numbers. To find them today, you must make four agreements with yourself:
- 1. Let go of the "won't buys". Ford Motor finally did after nearly 100 years.
2. No more seller talk. People are sick of sales pitches. Don't talk with hype and techno-babble - a dead give away you're one of those irritating sellers. (Do Not Call list now has 112 million people on it, so stop sounding like a telemarketer.)
3. Lead with YOUR hot button. People like to listen to other real people who have experienced the product. So stay in your consumer shoes and talk about it like you would if you were NOT selling it.
4. Practice getting good. Do it over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Like Mozart, Ben Hogan, Milarepa, Michael Jordan and Thomas Edison...
