How To Kick in MMA

Kicking Tips and Techniques

mma kicksTo develop powerful MMA kicks you need to understand where the true power lies behind a solid kick. The answer lies in your body weight. Now sure granted many martial artists understand this and then they make the crucial mistake thinking that they are getting their body weight into the kicks rather then developing a solid MMA kick that is driven by your core body.

The problem lies in that most people think that to land a powerful kick you need to swing your whole body into it, which basically results in whipping your leg into the target, thinking that this is what will land a stronger kick. Granted you do kick harder by really putting your legs into it, but it comes at a cost. High energy output and telegraphing. Your opponent will your kick coming a mile away and will be easily trapped or blocked leaving him room to counter your attack. Plus you spend enormous energy into the kick, quickly depleting your resources and fatigue sets in fast.

The solution? The solution to developing a solid devastatingly powerful MMA kick doesn't lie in your legs, no the secret lies in your hips. My coach will often say to me kick with your hips not with your legs. and this is so true. Anytime you engage and rotate your hips you are engaging the bodies core, and it's this rotational movement that produces the power, not the legs.

So if you really want to develop a powerful MMA kick that destroys your opponent practice drilling this idea. It'll take some practice and a new body mechanic in order to do so, but once you get the feel of kicking with your hips and not your legs, all your kicks will improve drastically, both in speed and power.

I bought a few of these to check them out then immediately bought a few more. They have lots of different handles for holding; the standard top, bottom and two side handles as well as straps up and across the back that you can use. They clean up very easy too with a wet cloth"
