MMA is relatively new to the American public. Although mixed martial arts is very prevalent in other countries such as Japan and Brazil, it is coming to the forefront of combat sports in the USA. With that being said, there are going to be people who say dumb things that annoy longtime MMA fans like myself. This article is not meant to insult anyone, consider it a warning. These are 5 things not to say during an MMA match.

"Mike Tyson could kill any these guys."
Mike Tyson was an absolute killer in the late 80s and early 90s. He had vicious power and intimidated pretty much every human being on the planet. That being said, boxing and MMA are much different. Mike Tyson would be considered a huge underdog against most MMA Heavyweights. Am I being biased toward MMA? Absolutely not. There is one reason and one reason only why I think Tyson would lose in MMA or even a street fight for that matter. What will he do if he gets taken down?

"Bruce Lee could kill any of these guys."
Slightly more intelligent than the Tyson argument, but this one will never be proven either way. Why argue about it when one of the argued parties is dead? Bruce Lee was one of the greatest and most renown martial artists ever, but that doesn't mean he would be able to be successful in 2001st century MMA. Plus, many Jeet Kune Do practitioners competed unsuccessfully in the UFC and other MMA competitions.

"That looks gay."
You just sound like an idiot, so please don't say this. Many positions in Jiujitsu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wrestling and other disciplines involve being in close proximity with your opponent both on the ground and standing. I've personally heard this dozens of times and it makes my blood boil.

"This is boring...all they're doing is rolling around."
Go to an MMA class, put on some sparring gear, and see how boring it is when a grappler is controlling you on the ground. I guarantee that you won't be thinking about your plans for the weekend. No, MMA isn't constant action, but appreciate the skill and mastery of submission fighting and wrestling.

"Is this stuff fake like WWE?"
This asinine comment is so prevalent that executives in the UFC actually have to make changes to their marketing campaigns to differentiate the two. Professional wrestling is scripted, meaning the outcomes are predetermined. Also, the punches, kicks and knees to the head in WWE are far from real. If you watch 10 seconds of an MMA match, you will realize that it isn't scripted. Plus, there are athletic commissions that oversee MMA to further prove it's legitimacy.
