mma drills for fightsMMA Workout Drills should form a big component in your daily training, at it doesn't matter if there are punching drills or kicking drills, but in order to get the most out of drilling techniques is to also make sure they engage the core. Without a solid core you'll gas out fast within a fight and that will spell a quick end or a fast tap out, something you'd rather do to your opponent right?

So here are some killer MMA workout drills you can do to help boost your skills.

Medicine Ball Drills - These drills use a boxers best friend the medicine ball, probably one of the most underused pieces of gear in the gym, yet one of the most effective for improving your fighting skills.

1. Side Toss - This is a very easy drill to do and does wonders for improving your core conditioning. Stand slightly winder then shoulder feet apart holding the ball out in front of you waist high. Now keeping your body nice and straight and tall, rotate the ball from side to side. It's important that you DO NOT throw the ball from side to side with your arms, rather engage your core muscles by keeping a good posture and let them do all the work..

2. Chop Toss - Again same initial start up as the side toss with the ball out in front of your standing slightly wider then shoulder width. Except this time, you'll bring the ball over one shoulder then quickly slam the ball into the ground using a diagonal motion. While it may seem like an easy exercise again the tendency here is to use your arms for slamming instead try and use your core.

Focus Mitt Drills - Focus mitts are one of the best pieces of fighting equipment you can own, and with the help of a partner can really help boost your MMA skills since they simulate real fighting situations. With a little imagination it's easy to take these drills and develop solo MMA drills, but either way focus mitts make for great MMA workout drills.

Slip the Jab - In this drill your partner throw out a jab and your goal is to drill the ability to time and side step the jab, using your core and then turn over and counter with a right cross. This exercise drills alot. It trains the eye to react and nail the timing needed to slip a jab in a real fight, solidify a counter attack while engaging the core muscles. Remember the rule when slipping - Bend at the knees feel the breeze - Bend at the waist get hit in the face.

Low Leg Evade -Many people forget that you can also use focus mitts to train kicks as well, it just doesn't have to be about punches. In this simple MMA workout drill, your partner simply throws a low level muay thai thigh kick, while you drill out the footwork, in stepping back to evade the kick and then step in with whatever counter you feel like doing. This drill focuses on drilling the evasion of one of the most common kicks thrown in MMA, while working on footwork and countering.

User Comments: Joey "I bought this bag a couple of days ago its pretty good totally takes a beating. I'm just over 6ft and 225 and this bag can handle me for the most part. You need to weigh down the bottom if your gonna punch hard but that's common. OH yea bottom line. You need to buy some serious, serious gloves for this thing. I suggest mid to high range gloves with some really good wrist wraps or your wrists are not going to be happy campers."
