What goes on behind the scene....

Everyone on the outside doesn't have a clue

Everyone sees the result but no one sees what it took to get there%u2026
I've heard that so many times now its like a mantra. This is one of the things that runs through our head while training for big events. One of my teammates was preparing for a title defense while hearing these types of motivation. He is a very exciting fighter and always is in shape, so everyone is amazed at how he wins. But just like the rest of us, we train very hard. We put hours in the academy, hours of our lives that we love and hate. We put in time when its raining, snowing, when we're sore, tired, hungry, and in holidays when people normally are resting. Basically, we put in the time to train when others would not. Which is why we say, no one knows how hard it is to be on top. To win you have to be willing to put everything on the line, even before you step in the ring. You have to win on the road. you have to win in the late night practices. You have to win in the solo workout. And most importantly, you have to win in your visualizations. With out this, you will not be able to dominate. This is the goal right? To completely dominate the competition, not just squeak by with barely winning. No one wants to be known as a boring fighter; even if you win you lose! You will lose respect from fellow fighters as well as the fans. No one respects someone who doesn't take their life seriously. I say life because for a fighter, this is your life. Everything you do is revolved around this winning. Making sure you spend time with your family so you are relaxed at home. Dieting just right and making sure you eat the proper amount of meals or drink enough water throughout the day. Coming to and giving your all at every practice is very important, no matter how you feel.
Everyone sees how well someone dominates in competition, but the vast majority will never fully comprehend how hard that individual worked behind the scenes. All the mental preparation, all the film watching, all the dieting and weight cutting, and all the rough workouts. Its like reading poetry or listening to a very well written song. No one knows how long it took that person to write or compose that, or how much effort they put into every single word or note. But they get to hear the beauty behind it, just like they get to see the beauty in one fighter completely outclassing the other in conditioning, striking, and grappling. It just looks natural to them! The problem is with most people, they would rather think of it as just a natural gift. Everyone wants an excuse to why they can't do something someone else can. Most don't want to and never will work that hard to achieve anything great.
The good news is, as long as those people exist, there will always be champions. Champions that worked very hard to be the champion, and that person will deserve every bit of glory they receive.
