You have an online business and you just paid a professional thousands and thousands of dollars for Search Engine Optimization also known as SEO. This is the art of taking a new website to the first page of Google. I say art because when you are competing against millions of other websites across the world it's an art form the stretches beyond near comprehension, and can take years. Partly, because it is always changing as Search engines tend to change the rules out of necessity. The reason is when most will follow the rules of SEO as governed by the search engines, their is a handful that cheat or try to cheat the system by finding or exploiting loopholes.

The search engine companies in the efforts to keep things fair change their Algorithms. Which are essentially a way for computers to process data. Many computer programs contain algorithms that detail the specific instructions a computer should perform (in a specific order) to carry out a specified task, such as calculating employees' paychecks or printing students' report cards. In the search engines case they use algorithms to weed out websites utilizing unfair practices I.E. spamming etc. And just an FYI if Al Gore really invented the Internet like he claims. Al Gor ithyms came way before the conception of such a technology. lil joke...

So in my style of instruction we will use examples to help delineate the difference of Standard (SEO) Search Engine Optimization for desktop-browser type webpages vs. Mobile Search Engine Optimization.

Okay so with so many using their smart mobile devices as a means of searching the internet. A new form of SEO is developing rapidly and Mobile SEO search results are based on several factors. One area of research has shown that trusted rating type websites such as Merchant circle and Yelp are looked at by the search engines as one gauge to rate a websites position in the mobile search engine query. This is because that most smart phones are geographically tied to your location through GPS technology. So it makes sense for the search engines to give you results for your search based on your location first.

You may be learning this for the first time by reading this, but that's okay this not common knowledge as of yet. So if you are a business owner that wants more local traffic or customers, you need to start pushing ratings or reviews of your store, shop or service. By asking your clientele to please rate and comment on your Business profile on one or more of your rating profiles. Lets look at an example site that I have shopped with many times in the past: NexusMagicStore.com is a great example because this is a difficult site to find a large audience. Magic is a niche under an umbrella of difficult search possibilities. If you search Magic on Google you are going to get nearly 1.5 Million search results. In order for this small but beautifully designed magic store to stand out they will have to do a lot of work.

When I investigate further I can see that they have done a lot of traditional SEO work. They do not rank very well yet for magic, and they may never rank that well at all. But, for the search term: "Magic Store" and "Magic shop" as well as "Online Magic store" they rank very, very well. As well as many, many other keywords. I can also see that they do have a well laid out Yelp, but it has only a few reviews, though they are glowing. More work on this site as well as submitting their site to Google Places, will improve their Mobile Search results. Google Places is a localized way to improve your mobile and local desktop-browser search related results. (I believe it has a 300 mile radius)

If you own a business it's recommended that you open a free review site like yelp and encourage your customers to review your business. To receive more reviews yourself, it's also important to review other businesses after you join yelp or Merchant circle. In researching smart phones and Mobile Marketing I found a lot of websites offering to build you a mobile website, I also found a lot of sites offering to convert your site to being more Mobile friendly. And while that is good, the costs can add up to big $$$ money to do so + converted sites can still be heavy and take time to load on smart phones, and patience is not something people have much of.
