What is the Mobile World Congress?
The Mobile World Congress is the most important congress in mobile communication in the world and all its editions have been celebrated in Barcelona (from 2006) which is housing this event until 2018. It's a unique opportunity for engineers, scientists and investors in the areas of wireless systems and mobile devices. Thus, Barcelona gets crowded. This year, the Mobile World Congress is celebrated from February 27th to March 1st 2012, so it is very advisable to start looking for accommodation in Barcelona or rent an apartment in Sitges or an apartment in Costa Brava which are close to the Catalan capital.

In the keynote programme, CEOs and executives from established and new companies in the broad mobile ecosystem will speak about the global business, growth strategies and technological innovations that are redefining mobile today.

Practical information about the congress
60,000 people are expected to attend this international appointment. This is why it is important to book your accommodation in advance. Only people over 16 are welcome to attend the congress. It is necessary to register to enter the premises of the congress, it is advisable to register in advance to avoid queues. Do not forget to take your business card and an identitiy card photo to get your tickets. You can register here. There are 4 types of passes:
1. Exhibition Visitor Pass: allows attendees four days access to the exhibition halls, including App Planet. However, it does not allow access to the conferences.
2. Silver Pass: allows access to basic exhibition halls and conferences, such as App Planet.
3. Gold Pass: in addition to the benefits of the Silver Pass, it provides access to the VIIP Networking Lounge and Congress Lunch. Also, it offers excellent opportunities to establish contacts.
4. Platinum Pass: the most exclusive pass. Beyond the benefits offered by the other passes, the Platinum Pass holders receive outstanding networking opportunities with GSMA and industry leaders, reserve seating at keynote sessions and more.

Where to eat near the Mobile World Congress
As the Platinum Pass and Gold Pass include lunch, those holding other passes will have to look for a place to have lunch. We'd like to propose you some places where you can eat well and cheap:
Restaurant Cruixent: this Mediterranean cuisine restaurant is very close to Plaza Espanya, and its dishes are made with the best seasonal market products. Address: Floridablanca, 3. Tel. 933 256 002 E-mail: info@cruixent.net. Price: 20-40 euros.
Montjuic el xalet: a bit further from the location of the congress, this restaurant stands out for its great views and the sophistication of its cuisine with dishes like Foie Travi in fresh cheese or the Lukewarm Salad of prawns accompanied by Jabugo, pistachios and shavings of foie. Campax: home-made and market cuisine in this restaurant opened in 2011 with a quiet and relaxed ambiance. You would be able to taste delicious dishes such as the beef carpaccio de ternera, baked cod with vegetables or the traditional style stewed pig trotters. Address: Carrer de Bejar, 66. Tel. 933 300 303. Precio: 30-45 euros.
Where to stay close to the Congress
Apartment Paral·lel I: this apartment has elevator, free Internet, washing machine and a big terrace. Smoking is allowed and it has capacity for 13 people. It is a 2-minute walk from Plaza Espanya, the Congress and the metro stop Espanya. Address: Avinguda Paral.lel 177, 1-4. Price: from 32 euros/night.
Apartment Olivera: apartment for 4 people and a 10-minute walk from Plaza Espanya. It is provided with central heating, TV and washing machine. Smoking is allowed. Address: Olivera 29, Bajos 3. Price: from 32 euros/night. How to get there: metro L3, Poble Sec.
Apartment Vallhonrat II: apartment with elevator, Internet, central heating, washing machine, TV, stereo and balcony. Smoking is allowed and it has capacity for 6 people. Address: Vallhonrat 22 Price: from 33 euros/night. How to get there: metro L3, Poble Sec.

How to get from the airport to the center for only 6 euros

One of the best options to go from the airport to the congress or your hotel or apartment in Barcelona is one of the taxis offered by Bonotaxi, since they are much cheaper than a normal taxi (6 euros!), they take you wherever you want and you can travel with more than 4 people. Also, if you arrive in Barcelona by train, these taxis pick you up at the railway stations or any other point of the city.
The service includes one suitcase and one handbag per person and you won't have to way more than 20 minutes in the city and 30 minutes in the airport. You will be picked up at the arrivals hall in the airport, the train station of the door of your apartment.
