F.A.Q
An answer to every question ;-)
Q: Why should I buy an italian SIM card?A: To avoid expensive roaming fees. If someone calls you in Italy on your NON italian number, you pay the fees for the international call . If you Roam on your American Phone number, please expect to pay somewhere between $1.00-$3.00/minute. The same happens if you call in or from Italy.
With our Wind SIM card you pay an unbeatable 12 cents in Italy in all networks and 30 cents to Europe and the U.S.A.
If someone calls you, you will not pay a dime!
Q: When do I get my phone number?
A: Usually 24 hours after purchase. You can immediately give your italian phone number to your friends, partners, etc. The card will be sent 24 hours after payment is received.
Please allow one week to deliver in Europe and two weeks for the U.S.A
Q: What kind of mobile phone is supported?
A: All GSM mobile phones with no SIM lock that operate in the 900/1800 MHz frequency. U.S.A and Canada customers should have a Tri or Quad band phone. CDMA phones are NOT supported.
Q: How do I know if my phone is already unlocked or not
A: Borrow a SIM from someone who has a different service provider and see if it works in your phone or not. If it works, then your phone is already unlocked. If it doesn't, then your phone is locked. To unlock your phone, check our link list.
Q: How do I purchase additional airtime?
A: You can easily recharge your airtime credit in Italy in several shops, like tobacconists, newsstand, lottery-shop, gas-station, Bar, etc.
Just ask for a "Ricarica Wind".
You either get a scratch card, where you have to call a toll-free number and insert the recharge code you find on the card or, if the shop has a p.o.s terminal, they will recharge your airtime credit for you. In this case, you have to ask for a "Ricarica Wind" for your number.
For example: if you would like to recharge 25 Euros, you just ask "una Ricarica Wind da 25 Euro per il numero "yourwindnumber".
The airtime credit will be recharged immediately.
Q: Further reasons to purchase a Wind SIM card?
A: You can easily use a lot of services already activated on the card, like directory inquiries, ticket and taxi reservations, etc. Furthermore, your italian friends, partners, etc, can call you at a very convenient rate, instead of paying international rates.
Q: I own an UMTS mobile phone or a UMTS laptop card. Can I use the UMTS network?
A: Yes, of course. You can activate the UMTS option (check our link list): 2.5 Gb, 30 days and 24 hours a day. It's not only convenient but you can keep your personal and professional information safe from web cafes. Furthermore, you can use some VOIP software like Skype and call all the world for free.

Calling home

- Hi Mia, do you mean some internet options, "call your country" or the card itself?
In the latter case, you cannot deactivate the card but should remember to recharge your airtime at least once every year, in order to keep your sim-card alive.

- It's great to be traveling, I like hotels, because there's always people willing to help you enjoy your time there. I don't usually use the phone service from hotels, it's quite expensive, whenever I want to do an international call I'd rather use something that won't make me spend big amount of money.
