Sharing The Memories: Model Trains

Remembering back to when I was a child, I can remember my father's Lionel train set that he had for us. I remember the day he sold it to an model train collector and then bought us a new Tyco HO Scale Model Train set.

Instead of it being my father's, this new train set was for me and my brother. I remember how we put together the track, the buildings and the scenery on a big piece of plywood in the garage. We had several different HO Scale Locomotives, some of them on track next to each other, some of them running on the same track. It brought a lot of fun for us.

I had forgotten just how much fun we had and it's something that lately I have been wanting to share with my own kids. Model Trains HO Scale style have even started to become collectible items.

Important Parts of An HO Scale Model Train Set

When I was working on our HO Scale Model Trains in the garage with my brother, we quickly realized that the train set was much more than just the HO Scale Locomotives and the train track, it was also about the scenery. Placing the train track on the board was just the beginning. The real fun was making our own miniature town, complete with stores, farms, hills, and everything else. It was a lot of fun seeing it all come together. We really appreciated the time spent together making the train set and also the time spent with my father as he advised us on how to make it all work together.

So if you are looking to put together a train set, just know that the first Model Train HO scale set that you put together will probably consist of a lot more than the locomotives, box cars, and track. You are creating an environment rather than just playing with a toy.
