Modeling Poses for Photographers
So if you are relatively new to photography, or even just new to or unsure of how to pose models, you are not alone.
Stop struggling to work with models in what would otherwise be "unnatural" poses.
Try to be Unique
A modeling pose can be very good, yet you still may find that many photographers utilize the same poses.
If you can find a unique natural pose... you will be ahead of the game.
Symmetry in Modeling Poses for Photographers
Having your model in a symmetrical position can remove all the excitement from your photographs and render your images "boring".
To avoid a symmetrical style of posing, have your models stand a little off center...naturally balancing most of their weight on the leg that is most comfortable for them... you want your photos to appear as natural as possible, for good results.
Make sure the models face is not directly positioned towards the camera.
Modeling Poses for Photographers - Working with Shoulders
So once you have your model posed off center, with most of the balance on one leg, check their shoulders. The shoulders should not be even, but one side should have at least a slight dip.
See the image to the right for an example of how having uneven shoulders can work in a pose.
Use your imagination and creativity, keeping in mind the total look you are going for in a pose.

Child Photography Poses

Human Figure Poses
-
Working with human figure poses can be much more difficult than other types of photography. Because people have movement and are often aware of what you are doing, it can be hard to achieve posing that looks natural.

Photography of Human Poses
-
It can be difficult to practice photography of human poses. The less experienced your models are, the more difficult it can be. While posing a single person for a portrait photo is fairly easy, capturing human poses for commercial purposes can be so...

- Quite a handy photography cell. You've really covered a lot of ground here. I urge anyone on this page to read the piece on Shoulders because not many (even professional) photographers say much about this area of posing. I have an article which also assists with photography posing tips and includes a video at the link below - photography poses. Hope it's of use to somebody.
