The Benefits of Modern Artificial Grass Surfaces
More than twenty years ago a few English football clubs starting playing their matches on pitches that were not covered in natural turf, but in artificial grass. The reasons for them doing this were mainly cost and consistency, but in the end they returned to the natural, traditional surface. However, things have changed a lot since then and technology has come a long way. You no longer need to worry about taking the skin off your knees when playing sport, or having ugly unnatural colours in your park or garden due to substitute surfaces.
Why Are Places Using Artificial Grass?
Nowadays, it is not just sports stadia that are opting to use artificial grass surfaces, but also parks and public and private gardens. Why are they doing this? Well maintenance is the most important factor, which also affects the cost. But what causes the need for change? The climate and amount of usage are the main factors for needing to revert to some kind of artificial surface. The initial cost of a natural lawn or playing field is rarely more than some soil, seed and water, or the supplying and laying of turf, then water. However the starting cost of artificial surfaces is considerably more. In the long term, though, artificial grass can prove to be a much cheaper, simpler and less time-consuming solution. Real grass needs care if it is to withstand many people walking, running or playing sport on it. It usually needs to be replaced, sometimes two or three times a year in some top sports stadia and can become thin and die without proper care. After outlaying the initial cost for some kind of false, artificial or synthetic surface you can relax with very low costs and maintenance. The newer versions, for example MiniGreen, are so realistic that they are almost better than the real thing. Their advantages are due to the fact they remain their true colour through all seasons, climates and volumes of rainfall or sunlight. Many natural grasses are temperamental, and need specific amounts of water and light. Then, their requirements vary depending on how much use they get. To put things simply, the person responsible for maintaining a park lawn or football field must constantly adapt and be prepared for more traffic and sunlight in the summer months and less of both in the winter, with something in between, but with more rain, during spring and autumn. In addition, countries with more extreme climates than the ideal temperate zones have even more difficulty in producing consistent green surfaces. Natural grass in tropical, sub-tropical and Arctic areas is even more fussy, and useable for fewer months of the year, and due to the climates, the users may be unable or unwilling to do their activity outside. Therefore the perfect solution is some kind of artificial grass that will be usable all year round, both indoors and out.
Fake or Real Grass?

So, to summarize, we need to forget any hang ups we have or had about Astroturf or other playing or garden surfaces that are not created by Mother Nature. Technology has advanced far enough over the last decade for wonderful parks and sports fields to be adorned with low-maintenance artificial surfaces.
