Modern Technology

Information Technology/Telecommunications

Modern, High Tech, and Information Technology is in full swing and on the rise. It's a field so vast and expansive that it boggles the mind. The iPad, iPhone, eReader, Touchpad, Social Networks, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Text and Instant Messaging, Virtual Office and telecommuting, the list goes on and on. It encompasses the IT arena and beyond. It's both scary and exciting when you consider how far humankind can go with its efforts.

The exciting part is that there seems to be no limit to what can be accomplished in the world of technology. The sad part, there seems to be no limit to what can be accomplished; translation: the same progression made toward the good is, unfortunately, identical to the advancement of the malevolent, the hackers.

Having said that, as a proud member of the "Geek Society," it's still great to live in the Information Technological Age.

iPad

The iPad is a tablet computer designed by Apple. It was created for optimal display of books, magazines, movies, music, and to give the user more access to the Internet than previous handheld devices, and with a larger screen. The iPad weighs about 25 ounces and connect to the Internet via WiFi or a 3G mobile data connection. The operating system employed by the iPad is i)S 3.2.2 and it operates as a cross between a Macbook and an iPhone.

A few of the top iPad apps are: Kindle (buy and download books from Amazon's Kindle store), Netflix (watch streaming movies and TV shows from your Netflix queues on your iPad), Apple Pages (fully functional slimmed-down word processor), TweetDeck (version of the free desktop client that's popular among Twitter power users), and there are tons more.

Apple iPhone 4

There are so many features of the iPhone that you are literary carrying around and talking on a computer. A device that connects you to technology and people across the globe in one touch. Let's say you're typing a message to someone, about to send it and you realize there are numerous errors, just shake the iPhone and the text disappears. Oops, you really did want to keep that text so, shake it again and the text reappears.

Not only can you play audio books on your iPhone but you can increase or decrease the playback speed. If you desire to get through the book quicker than normal, just increase the speed. How about "Peer-to-Peer" connectivity? This enables you to find and connect with other devices that are using the same app as you are. For example if you want to play cards with someone while you're waiting, find another user, and participate in a live card game. You can also use Peer-to-Peer connectivity for some data sharing in applications.

iPhone 4 is the biggest leap forward since original iPhone. Features Retina display and Video calling, called Facetime. Facetime is engaging and personal. The iPhone switches from front camera to back camera to show someone what you are seeing. You can chat anywhere there is a WiFi connection. The Retina display is 326 pixels per inch so it looks to your eye as if you are holding a piece of printed paper in your hand. The iPhone enables multi-tasking for all apps and quickly switches between applications. Everything is just like you left it. Drag one app on top of the other and it creates a folder for both apps. There is a 5 megapixel camera that captures 720p high def video.

More details and specifications:

Retina Display

The 960-by-640 backlit LCD display boasts a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch, making it the highest-resolution phone screen ever. To achieve this, Apple engineers developed pixels so small - a mere 78 micrometers across - that the human eye can't distinguish individual pixels. That makes text remarkably sharp and graphics incredibly vivid. IPS technology also provides excellent color and contrast from almost any viewing angle.

Apple A4 Chip

Apple engineers developed the A4 chip to be remarkably powerful yet energy efficient. With it, iPhone 4 can easily perform complex jobs such as multitasking, editing video, and placing FaceTime calls. All while maximizing battery life.

Gyro + AccelerometerMetroPCS, Inc.

iPhone 4 includes a built-in three-axis gyroscope. When paired with the accelerometer, it makes iPhone 4 capable of advanced motion sensing such as user acceleration, full 3D attitude, and rotation rate. Translation: More motion gestures and greater precision for an even better gaming experience.

Camera + LED

The iPhone 4 camera shoots gorgeous 5-megapixel photos and stunning HD video. And with its advanced backside illumination sensor, it captures beautiful images even in low-light settings. The built-in LED flash does double duty. When you're taking pictures, it works as a flash. When you're shooting video it can stay on to light up the scene. And on the front of iPhone 4, the built-in camera is perfect for making FaceTime calls and shooting self-portraits.

Mic + Speaker

While most phones have only one microphone, iPhone 4 has two. The main mic, located on the bottom next to the dock connector, is for phone calls, voice commands, and memos. The second mic, built into the top near the headphone jack, is for FaceTime calls and for making your phone calls better. It works with the main mic to suppress unwanted and distracting background sounds, such as music and loud conversations. This dual-mic noise suppression helps make every conversation a quiet one.

Multi-Touch

With its large Multi-Touch display and innovative software, iPhone lets you control everything using just your fingers. How does it work? A panel laminated on the glass senses your touch using electrical fields. It can register multiple touches at once to support advanced gestures such as pinch to zoom, two-finger tap, and more. The panel then transmits the information to the Retina display below it.

App Store

The App Store is features over 300,000 applications and counting in practically every category and most Apps are free.

E-book Readers

E-book readers are portable devices with display screens optimized to show the electronic text of digital books. These electronic book readers are typically larger than cell phones and smaller than most tablet computers. Tablets with e-book apps, web browsers and more, such as the iPad, typically offer more versatility than e-readers.

The Nook and the Kindle are the top two ebook readers. Barnes & Noble and Amazon, the retail giants behind the two devices respectively, have put a lot of effort in making improvements to their ebooks.

In EBook Readers Research, Nook vs Kindle review in 2010, the Amazon Kindle came out as the clear winner, hands-down. Being a newcomer in the industry at that time, the B&N gadget was still deemed as "buggy" by some and had more than a few technical issues to deal with. It may have had some appeal as an alternative to the Kindle but offered none of the seamless that the Amazon device had.
