Meet the Modern Bohemian: PonchoMeg

I am a bit of a modern day Bohemian-Hippie. Short on money, super creative, peace loving, romantic, poetic, and emotional, I live each day in wonder.

"Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today." -James Dean

But the modern world is a hard place for a Modern Bohemian like me. It's full of technology and pollution and obsessed with money, money, money. So what is a Modern Bohemian to do? I find ways to make the two worlds meet.

I am living a Bohemian lifestyle in the age of technology. How? Step into my world for a moment, and I will tell you.

First of all I understand that technology is important.

Yay for technology!

So many opportunities have opened up for creative types like me because of technology. Here is a list of some examples to illustrate what I mean.
Music- My boyfriend is a DJ and writes his own music electronically! Amazing! Bohemians in Puccini's day did not have that kind of opportunity! Not only can music be made using technology, it can be sold and bought (I-tunes anyone) and carried with you at all times! Crazy!
Social Networking- I love that I can stay in contact with my friends and meet so many new people because of the internet. There are sites completely devoted to social networking! (Facebook, Myspace, etc.)
Business- Just about anyone can have their own business nowadays. Whether it is full time, part time, or just supplemental income, technology has made business possible for the average person. Pretty cool. I myself have two businesses and also make money with other online endeavors. I work part time, but now I have options that I would not have had even twenty years ago to make extra money on the side.
Going green- Being able to publish online means saving paper. Buying songs online saves on packaging. Not to mention, I can write as many poems, songs, short stories, and books as I want without using paper or pencil... I just save them on my laptop. Plus, the internet has valuable tips and resources for going green, including resources that allow you to buy and sell used goods. (Craigslist, Ebay, etc.)
There is more, but I am sure that you're starting to see the benefits here.

I make use of technology in my daily life!

Ehow and Etsy, my two favorite E-words!

As a creative person, it is only natural that I have many different creative endeavors. I sing, write music, teach, play trombone, write poems, songs, books, short stories, articles, etc. I make arts and crafts, bath and body products, and I love to cook! I enjoy photography, film, tv, fashion, and traveling. The list goes on and on.
The coolest thing about technology is being able to make something of my creative endeavors.
Most notably, I am currently a writer for ehow.com and a crafter and seller on Etsy.com. I am able to take what I am passionate about, share it with the world, and maybe even make a little money in the process! It's pretty sweet!

PonchoMeg's Place

I don't let the "real world" get me down.

I find beauty everywhere...

The modern hustle and bustle of the world is a bit much for me. Like I said, I appreciate technology and of course I appreciate money (gotta pay the rent somehow!) but I know that there are other things that are more important.
There is natural beauty in the world all around us if we only open our eyes to see it. Nature, art, music, love, family, friendships, peace, happiness, spirituality... these are the things that are truly important to me, and I make sure that I make time to appreciate them.

I know who I am!

And I love me.

I may not always be the most confident person in the world, but I know who I am inside. I appreciate that I am special, different, unique, and maybe a little crazy. It makes me who I am and no one else can be just like me, which is pretty groovy.

Hopefully, I can inspire you to do the same for yourself.

I believe in love...

"All you need is love." -The Beatles

I love to love. My true goal in life is to love all living things. Sometimes it is hard to find the good in something, but I feel like if I try hard enough, even if I don't succeed at meeting my goal, I will still be a better person for trying just because love is so important. I must love myself, love those close to me, and love the people and creatures of the world.

"True love is boundless like the ocean and, swelling within one, spreads itself out and, crossing all boundaries and frontiers, envelops the whole world."
-MK Gandhi

I try to share my love whenever I can. I give it to my boyfriend, my family, my friends, and to my little sweetheart, Ava. Ava is my cat. I adopted her from the ASPCA in 2007 and she has helped me to be even more loving than I ever was before. I got her at a very hard time in my life, and loving her and taking care of her helped me through that time and opened my eyes to the light in front of me.

Donate to the ASPCA today!

Without the ASPCA, my little Ava might not be here today. Please support this wonderful organization for all the work they do in helping our furry friends.

The Society was formed to alleviate the injustices animals faced then, and we continue to battle cruelty today. Whether it's saving a pet who has been accidentally poisoned, fighting to pass humane laws, rescuing animals from abuse or sharing resources wi

We at Squidoo passionately believe in creating new ways to support good causes online. By making a donation to ASPCA from this page, you are sending money directly to that organization, in whatever amount you want. We don't touch it. We don't even see it. The author of this page doesn't either. And if you made it this far, thanks for caring.

PonchoMeg: The Modern Bohemian
I am a 25 year old Bohemian/Hippie/Free-Spirit living in the city. I decided to write about my experiences as I enter a whole new part of my life. My future is uncertain, but one thing is for sure... I need to find out what it is that I really want to do with my life. Or at least enjoy the uncertainty...

About Me

I love creativity and beauty, and I believe in peace and love. I try to be true to myself always and stay strong in who I am. I love to do so many things, that sometimes, it's hard for me to focus on just one thing. But that's okay... it keeps me on my toes!
I am a bit of a complex person, and I am very creative.
I love being me! Even if I am not always confident in what I do in life, I am confident in the fact that I know who I am. And that feels pretty good.
You want to know me? Good. Because I want to know you too.

I gotta hand it to you. You have it going on. I loved this read, most especially about love and knowing who you are.

Anyone in these parts will tell you I am a loud trumpeter of personal branding that smacks of the honest wysiwyg variety.

Looks to me like you have nearly achieved zen. I envy you.

Smell the smoke of a burn-out blessing?

    Hi Meagan,

I am also a free spirit. I grew up in the 60s/70s. I am a believer, not a deceiver.
I enjoyed reading your articles on eHow. Thank you for your email. rrrc. I am in the process of writing more articles and setting up my website so can't get back to people as soon as I would like. Love and peace.
